I use plumber's putty unstead of silicone. It stays soft and it is easily removable. Hard pan connector are my choice just because they have no corrugations that can cause blockages. Obviously you can use a vacum cleaner, a pump or just a glove and a plastic cup to take the water off the pan prior to disconnecting it.

Any reason why you didn't use a Flexi hose to connect the water to the valver. It seems a lot simpler

No mention of what you did with the flusher pipe to seal it?
A lot of times, if you need to seal around the flush pipe, I would use putty
SOUND GOES OFF AT 17 mins for remainder of video
