This is the best video I have seen on setting up a drop shot rig. Very well done!!
Very nice video...I am just getting started with drop shot rigs for bass and crappie. Very informative and well done.....thanks
I've only just started watching drop shot fishing videos to try the canal for this winter.. this video has helped me a lot as I didn't know much about this type of fishing, cheers guys great job!!!!
Canals are a great place to start drop shot fishing, no need to cast far, fish the margins near shrubs and bushes
Great video Mike, I fancy a bit of drop shotting and didn't know where to start. Very informed video, well explained.I was tying the Albright knot all wrong, but now I know where I was going wrong, cheers mate.
very well explained. going to try this very technique later in the week. tight lines 🐟
This may be the BEST drop shot rigging tutorial on TH-cam. Awesome video!.
Thankyou!!! It took me a few attempts but thanks to this video I’ve cracked a drop shot set up!! ... love the light tackle stuff guys, keep up the great work!!
Nice little video Mike.
I reference Graemes knot video from time to time and I learned all the knots I use from them.
Many thanks.
Thanks David
TAFishing I wonder how many of these great freshwater schemes could be used, in some way, in beach fishing. A string of these might get Whiting.
Watched this again this morning for a reminder before taking myself down to a nearby river to give it a go. Didn't actually hook anything but saw so may little fat stripeys following the lures in to the margins. I just couldn't illicit a strike out of them despite changing to different lures. So frustrating but still good fun. Will be doing it again.
Drynet sometimes when they're stubborn, I use nightcrawlers or other natural baits on my drop shot. I saw my friend's son do it, works good 👍
Good tip, thanks. In one of Mike's other videos he did very well with Prawns for Perch. With Autumn well underway here in the UK I can always find worms under the damp and rotted leaves that have fallen on hard surfaces.
Hi mike, thanks for introducing dropshotting to me! New season and didn’t catch any perch but did get two pike! Used the drop shot rig as a trad lure, long cast into a wire pool and bingo! Great fun mate, hooked lol
Thanks Mike for an excellent presentation on tying the rig.
Nice finger work on the Knott. Great technique to emulate and learn from. I really struggled with the Albright knott. This has been very helpful.
Omg! Just watched your video. I’m sure it’s been said before but you sound just like your dad!
Good tutorial, just what i needed. I prefer a double grinner knot to join to braid but that's just personal and easier for me.
Well done. The best visual on the drop shot rig I've seen. Many thanks.
Great tutorial, thanks. Appreciated
Thanks for an excellent informative video.
Christ, if you close your eyes and listen to Mike, you can hear your voice, Graeme! He really is a clone of you! Great to see such a close bond.
Great video thanks mate 😀👌
Nice knuckles mike xD , someone had a good day recently
thanks for the tips on the rigging
Cheers Mike, The tip re: tying the flouro to braid last is a good tip and could have saved me plenty of time re-tying the hook ;)
Yeh I learned the hard way with that! Glad you liked the video- Mike
Cheers Mike, always like the videos ;)
Awesome video. Thanks for the new ideas
Very good. Just got to master that all Bright knot....
Thanks For a great video helps answer my questions!
Cracking good Video Mike.
Great video..well done !
Great vid to you and camara guy . Off bass fishing now .
really good video, thanks Mike
Can you use a quick clip to join the fluorocarbon to the braid or is it best to use the albright knot?
great technique i use this in the US 3-4 times a week for bass and talapia. bites come hard and fast!!
Great video mike. Thinking of using something similar for my squid jig rigs to make the lures sit nicely on the line.
Good idea!
15 minutes for a quick and easy knot. Will wonders never cease?
He talks too much
Maybe your watching another video ? more than how to tie an easy knot, theres some good pointers for beginners here and in all there vids. Where are your vids ??? maybe we can learn how to be a twat.
Instead of a specialist dropshot leads, you can use an old fashioned barrel lead with a shot pinched underneath. When you want to change depths, open the shot, and move the height up or down.
sorry for the late response to an old comment. an old fashioned way would be a stopper knot and maybe a small bead.
Calidad👍💪 el otro video lo haces en español 😁
thanks very helpful with the drop shot knots
Great presentation. Thanks.
Would a small bead and crimp either side of the hook eye work?
brilliant so in depth
Good video, very informative
I just bought some ready tied rigs from fox rage, can't wait to try it out as I've never tried drop shotting before, so excited!
Awesome vid Mike. Good explanation. I agree with the 20lb braid 2 oz fish ain't coming in with 20lbs of weed and using a leader the fish don't care about the braid. Have you tried a drop shot hook from mustad they work great to.
thanks. yes the hook i was using in this video is a size 2 mustad dropshot hook
Hi what sort of casting weight rod do you use for this fishing method
can pike bite threw that line and can you use trace wire
Thanks Mike!
Linda from Idaho this guy is a homophobic a*hole and is telling me I’m going to catch aids and die....
Is 15lb fluorocarbon OK to use with a 3-20g casting rod?
Im going to have a go at drop shotting on saturday.
Ive made my rigs. Can i use a loop to loop connection to join my fluro to braid or a swivel?
i do and it works fine
A little tip for those struggling with the Albright knot. Use the Alberto instead. Put the bite on the flouro side and wrap the braid around 7 times up then 7 times back. I find the braid is easier to wrap with than the stiff flouro and works all the same. Tight lines everyone :)
I always use the Alberto. Never had it fail
great advice mike
Great tips as always.
Has anyone tried this method on bass in Irish/UK waters ?
i fish for bass in the us using this rig 3-4 times a week. best advice for this rig is let it settle for 10-20 seconds before twitching and reg let it drop to the bottom for a few seconds in between twitching the bait as the bass often bite then.
andi robb
Thanks for that Andi. The bass numbers decline in in the winter but its always good to have some new methods when summer comes along.
Nice rigg mike ... Iv got to try sum time .... Wood a qwaiver tip do say a 10 foot rod that's light do the job normally used for float fishing
+Muddy Walker Ideally you would want a shorter rod to begin with, but definitely give it a go, it will still work
I kind of a beginner here and trying to learn everything I can.
Question: For the union of the braid to the flurocarbon line why not just use a swivel?
Nice tips
Mike Grosvenor I don't like using a swivel bc of lose of sensitivity and it's just one less thing to buy
@@armchairgangstac907 and a loop 2 loop connection also works good
Best best drop shot rig tnx !!!! Sr!!!!
Can I use double uni knot instead of albright knot to connect the two lines?
I guess you can...use whatever knot you want as long as it holds. Knot tying can be a personal thing.
I use a Uni knot with a long tag end which I pass back through the hook eye on the hook POINT side, to make it ride facing up... Done ✔ The weight goes on the long tag end(the reason for having one). Tight lines...
Can one use a small swivel to connect the drop shot rig to the main line? Or is it always best to tie directly to the main line?
Yep you can use a small swivel to join the two different lines together. You will still catch fish, but the bite indication isn't as sensitive as when you use line to line. You should still catch though and it's easier if you find tying the albright knot difficult - Mike
Thanks from Canada! Very helpful!
Noob question. Why tie the two lines together instead of using a snap swivel to tie the braid line and flurocarbon so you can change rigs easier ?
Dude...
Swivels can get hung up when casting
Swivels are another piece of gear you don't need
You're tying one knot instead of two when omitting the swivel
I use loop to loop connections, best of both worlds and you lose sensitivity with a swivel imo
Can you use choddy hooks for dropshotting
Nice video guys, I thought I was fishing heavy using 8lb flurocarbon? Do you feel any hinderance to using the thicker fluorocarbon
Personally I don’t think the fish mind if you go with heavier fluoro. Certainly Perch don’t mind as they are so predatory. If you are fishing for a species that is generally quite aware and shy then you would need to go thinner. But I’ve used 12lb fluoro for Perch and it’s worked fine
@@TAFishing I know what your saying, I appreciate the reply, so im guessing using a larger hook than normal would have the same response as they are so focused on feeding? I feel when using something like a size 2 compared to a 6 or an 8 there is so much more hooking potential
TAFishing other than perch what other species can you target with a drop shot set up?
Love your videos btw...
bass and talapia love this rig
Decamargo92
great video except the albright is backwards....make the loop with the receiving end (flouro) and wrap the braid around that to protect it
Brilliant thank you, keep em coming.
Hmmm. You tie the Albright backwards from how I learned it: make a loop of the stuff/thicker line, wrap the braid around the loop and through the end of the loop and cinch.
Great knot thought; won't use anything else for braid to mono or fluoro connection!
Brian Sherwood try an fg knot little more time to tie but it's slimmer and stronger. I like the albright/alberto cause they are quicker to tie
Do u have to use braided line?
WARHAWG you dont have to but it is better because braid doesn't have any stretch letting you feel every little knock.
If the hook is pointed down, you can just run the tag back through the eye of the hook to reverse it
After spending about 3 hours trying to get the hook to always point up and found before this video exactly what you said to be true. Easy knot easy correction.
Nice and proud
Hi. I watched one of your videos where you used 30lb braid so that you stand a good chance of getting your lure back if it gets snagged. If it is tied to 15lb flurocarbon surely it won't make a difference? I'm new to drop shotting and I'm in the process of buying equipment and learning to do the rigs so I'm finding it confusing. Cheers
Great video, where can I buy "fish action" lures?
They are currently in the process of talking with UK distributors and online distributors. They should be available online and in UK tackle shops soon!
Thanks, I'll keep a lookout for them.
I found some on Ebay , the kraken and the shad ( the stretchy ones)
You can actually tie the leader to your main line first. If when you tie it the hook is upside down just pass the tag end back through the eye of the hook. Then the hook will spin and face upwards.
is mike a school teacher. He realy sounds like one of my primary school teachers back in the day
Jack Sidebottom Yes, I teach PE and Geography to primary school kids!
Mike
Probably why you are good at teaching the people of TH-cam different fishing techniques. Great video and thx for the reply
Jack Sidebottom Thanks Jack,
Appreciate the kind feedback.

Brits love the perch, every fishing video in the UK they are catching perch.
Urban outdoors P.G. County we also like zander, pike and carp
thats cause theres a lot of big ones unlike in the US
Shane Maguire that’s what ya focking brits always say we have huge Great Lake perch bass and natural trout fishing
RealisticFSX pilot
But we do have thousands of miles of wild Brown Trout and Sea- run Brown's and the finest chalk streams in the world!
try doing that second knot on the bank in freezing jan
I've been looking for a "thru-hole" dropshot knot (for lack of better word), because the popular knot everyone uses, i found out, cuts the line like a knife. Must be shitty hooks, but that's all I have available in 35km radius. Will see now, how this works.
Like Your Videos,
Who else took notes on this - I did
Hmm, I have a question. If you drop shot for perch from land and theres alot, like alot alot weed on the bottom, how am I supposed to not catch weed?
2. Do I have to reel in while drop shotting, or can i just cast out, and "play" with my rod tip, to make the fish "alive"?
3. Trying to tie the drop shot right now :D
SafetDK yes you could just use the reel to make lute come alive. I usually reel back slowly to me. You could try Texas rigging it to keep it weedless
Why not use a standard paternoster?
Would be better without the black hoodie back drop
But cool helpful knots. Thanks
hey mike, i was wondering what primary school do you teach?
Very well explained but the contrast of ur sweater made hard to see. All the same very good vid. Cheers
try doing that knot in -2 on the bank
made that palomar not look really complicated
Use colored line for demos. Please.
Triple surgeon knot is easier
*n00b question alert*
+Schyzofrenic87 No, the lead is below the lure so the fish take the lure not the lead. The lead itself is pinched onto the line surprisingly tight. I've never lost a lead when I've had a fish on - Mike
The reason "fish like red" is becuse it kind of reminds a fish of anouther fish flashing its gills. This useually is a sign of distress or injury and basically is the equivilant of ringing the dinner bell. Not totally sure it makes any difference painting the hook red, some shit on the market is snake oil. Thats life. We just need to use experience to sort out the bs. If you ligit can proove you get more strikes on red hooks than plain ones, then boom. Buy those reds lol. But know before you buy. Question everything and test everything
Do you need fluorocarbon ?
Kcn Outdoors you can also use mono, but i recommend fluoro.
It wouldn't matter if the hook hanged down like they do on pike plugs. Once the fish mouths the bait its on ! A lot of fishing tactics are for the benefit of things looking pretty to the anglers eye.
10 -15lb flurocarbon and size 2-4 hooks. Jesus what you fishing for sharks.
I have always used drennan 4.4lb supplex with gamakatsu ls2033f size 10-12 hooks.
And have caught pike up to 11lb and zander up to 6lb.
Yes I'm lucky they haven't bit me off.
Your only fishing for perch so no need for that size hook or line.
You want a delicate presentation of the lure.
Match anglers don't use that size for bagging up with carp.
Just my opinion through. experience.
I have been drop shotting for years and it amazes me that people use such big hooks and line.
Ive just got some 15lb flurocarbon line and size 2 hooks because of this video can i use them and will i catch on them or will i catch more using like a size 12 hook with like 8lb flurocarbon line
There are much easier knots than those two, especially attaching flouro to braid.
Anyone else feel that this video could have been 3 minutes long?
I don't trust fluorocarbon because of its poor knot strength, 15lb bs should be ok for small fish though. Ordinary mono has never let me down and knot strength is excellent.
Everyone uses like 10+ lb line and I use 6lb
For bass
What if you hook a pike or even a big catfish?
Your are making the line weaker by "straighting" it. Fluro burns easy
Looks like you tied a palamor knot
impossible to follow this knot tie
Might be better if you didn’t have a dark sweat shirt on can’t see a thing
