I am in the same situation unfortunately. My son has been lost to addiction…now addicted to fentanyl for 8 years now. I and everyone in the family, friends, even strangers have tried to get him treatment. He has twins that he is not in their lives at all. I just pray someday he can find sobriety

I’m so sorry for your loss. I found my 26 year old son Brendan this past May 1 2024 in his room unresponsive and they couldn’t get him back. There’s no loss like a mother losing their child. I'm so terribly sorry @kathleennickell1974 I can't imagine what you are going through, or how you are coping with it. Asking if you are OK is the worst question, and it's impossible to understand if you haven't been through a similar experience, is there anything that helps you daily such as these videos? Or support groups? Do you have close friends and family to talk to? I bet Brendan was and still is absolutely incredible, I can imagine he being an amazing soul and just trying to find his place in the world like alot of us. I hope you know how amazing of a momma you are and how loved you are. I would sure love to be your friend. If you want!

When I put this video on I was washing the dishes… so I was just listening and not watching.

The thing that I get from a lot of these videos, is that there is always a minimization of the addicts crimes. It's a terrifying thing to be robbed at gunpoint, and many victims are traumatized for life. Even a burglary with no one home can take away someone's sense of safety forever. Victims of crimes should have a platform and a voice, at the very least not to be minimalized and dismissed.

I know these details are probably personal, but I can’t help but really wish and want to know whether or not the medic within the courthouse were equipped with naloxone and used. Yes I realize it can’t save everyone, but this specific detail leaves me wondering, I would imagine that any emergency personnel would have it on them but then being that it’s a courthouse they may have different procedures since they’re not used to too many emergencies there… naloxone should be available in all places, I know it won’t save all lives, but it should at least be there, be accessible to people who administer it, and easy to find

Very sorry for your loss. That near-death experience didn't frighten Cory because he actually didn't value his life. So many things once important to him had fallen away. Depression is devastating to a youth. I watched two cousins die in the very same way.

Drug additions are so heartbreaking, and the way people feel so obligated to convince people that their loved one was a good person due to the stigma of overdosing just needs to stop. Everyone single one of us is susceptible to drug addiction, and losing someone like this is horrible.

My heart aches for these mothers in these stories. Knowing my Mom could've been one of you is very eye opening. I had a 60 pill a day habit and took prescription fentanyl on the regular...never knowing how dangerous it was. I was one of the lucky ones. Been sober since 2010. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry. My son also died of fentanyl poisoning. He was found 7 days later against a wall in his bedroom. Fentanyl kills quickly. My son's arm was still up on the wall when they found him on his knees. From what I was told, the cops know its a fentanyl death by the awkward positions in which they find the dead.
With fentanyl, you're alive one minute and dead the next. This is an epidemic. We need to make kids aware of how fast you go should you take this drug. We also need to make kids aware that fentanyl is in EVERYTHING!!! I make it a point to tell any mother I meet to warn their kids against buying pills online.
My son was only found to have fentanyl in his system. They believe me took a pill. He probably thought he was getting something else, but it was pure fentanyl and it killed him.
I am very sorry for your loss. Sadly. I know your pain all too well. I hope you're getting some sort of counseling to help with the grief, because the loss of a child is one of the hardest to deal with on top of the fact that he died suddenly, which makes it a traumatic death as well, which is a whole different kind of grief.

I don't understand the schools decision to not allow this kid to do sports.
I'm the intervention teacher in my school, and I love sports days because it is often where my kids will totally shine! They can't read. But man they can run!
Kids who don't get good grades need another outlet to show what they can do. It's so important for their self worth. We're all good at something.
It’s incredibly tragic and I’m sorry her your loss. It’s unfortunate that he didn’t ask for the help he wanted. It didn’t require court for him to go to rehab and I wish he had chosen that option. His mother’s heartbreak is devastating. If anyone is addicted and is considering getting clean is reading this, his mother’s anguish could be someone who loves you. This hit me really hard because 4 months ago I got 30 pills of fentanyl that I thought was oxycodone and was throwing up like crazy from it and never realized that I barely had died a dozen times without knowing I was doing fentanyl

You’re not alone. I lost the love of my life this march. I had left home previously because I couldn’t take the abuse that I believe was spurred on by his drug use, but I kept praying he would get help and change with some tough love. He sadly didnt get the chance. He will forever be 43
The school made a bad decision to cut him off of sports instead of giving him another chance. 😢
My heart goes out to her and his family. This is devastating.💔😭However, please don't put blame on the school. Any student who is an athlete has to have a certain grade point average to participate. ALL athletes know this. In MANY cases (I know because I am a middle school teacher) students are warned ahead of time of the consequences if their grades are not where they need to be by the end of a quarter or semester. AND, students know when their lack of work ethic is jeopardizing their place on a team. I can say, he knew what was possible to come regarding his place on the team if his grades did not improve. I am whole heartedly so sorry for this mother and his family. But, please don't make the school part of the blame.

He needed some structure. Mentors. He was supposed to be driven to get his grades in order and continue to condition. Then you could try to get on the team mid season or definitely be ready for next year. He needed some extra motivation and encouragement. Someone to help him not give up. So sad. Losing a loved one is horrible enough but when it's your kid and so young it's all worse. My sister lost two sons, one was murdered in 2005, Michael was only 31, and then my second nephew Jose who was only 46 due to overdose from methodon and morphine. I miss them so much and my sister struggles every day from losing them. Jose died in April five days before her birthday.. nothing will ever be the same again. I'm so sorry for all the moms and dads who lost their beloved children to this terrible and evil drug. RIP to all of them 😢😢😢
Is there anything worse a parent can go thru than being too far away to be with their child under these circumstances? Just as I read these stories I always think there can never be any situation worse that what I am reading, and then this one pops up and Yes, there can be one worse. This story was gut wrenching. I am hugely grateful my two survived their young lives unscathed and in their 50's they are doing well and living happy lives. There are just too, too many who don't make it.

I’m from England, and having been watching these videos for some time now, having been aware of the opioid crisis. It’s terrifying, that statistic at the beginning- 200 dead a DAY from fentanyl. By comparison in the U.K. it’s 40 deaths a week. (As of May this year) We have a problem, but it’s nothing like in the US. I just wish people wouldn’t touch ANY drugs. Even vapes have had fentanyl dumped into them….

I also have to add that I am not against cannabis. I feel that it can help people medicinally across the world! It is just that with me & having an addictive mindset, it was not a decision I wish I had made, ever! CBD & THC Can greatly help those with multiple sclerosis, Seizures and many, many other medical conditions. I feel it should medicinally be legal across our country in each state, but for legitimate conditions, not just telling the Dr you have something. The conditions/diseases need to be verified with authenticity!

I have a Brother addicted to Crack & his 30 year old son is addicted to Fentanyl. They both have been in Rehab so many times, it’s very sad. Fortunately his son has no children that I know of. When I hear the phone ring, I think it’s going to be a sibling to give news of overdose and or death.

Parents need to know the age in their state when parental legal authority ends. In my state it was 16. Between 16 & 18 is a “gray” area, during which the parents can’t legally control the child but are still legally responsible for what the child does.
So you have to take action before they are 16. Usually this means you call the cops on your kid before they’re seriously out of control - but you see the direction they’re heading. The kid will “hate” you for this. The cops will too. If the police refuse to take the child out to Juvenile Court system, tell them the child is suicidal; then HAVE TO ACT.
Even if the court hearings are past the age of 16, the court proceedings are based on the age of the child at the original offense.
If the parents want the justice system to work for & with you, you need to know the age that parental power expires. Courts have power & money behind it to order therapeutic situations - not just jail & adult jail at that! It’s hell on steroids, true. But better outcomes are more possible & you’ve intervened earlier, which is better than later.
I hired an attorney FOR MYSELF, as parent, to help me navigate this maze. Probation & judges listen to an attorney more attentively than they do to mere parents. Let an attorney talk for you.
Parents can’t buck the system; but you can shape it, (manipulate it?), if you start early. (His sentence was 63 days in a locked behavior modification hospital for adolescents paid for by the state. Excellent hospital.)
Thank God this hellish process, which we all got through, worked well for my child. The “Big Problem” child now has two master’s degrees, married with a child, owns a home in a 9/10 rated school district, & earns about $100K a year.
Nip it in the bud. EARLY.
I hear a lot of parents say something to the effect that to use drugs is “normal” for most teens or that experimenting is normal. I totally disagree. I think it’s the exception rather than the rule. Maybe it makes the parents feel better about the situation, but it’s problematic because parents lose the opportunity to address drug use or abuse at the early stage because “all kids are doing it.” We as parents need to catch a clue and face drugs head on today. What other kids are doing is no excuse. Some of the use or abuse may be related to mental or psychological disorders, which in a lot of cases early intervention can help
