@@Itsmeeddy that’s what makes me uncomfortable about the persons comment. Our grandparents suffered a lot because of the toxic ideas of masculinity and many of our mothers and grandmothers etc suffered. They had husbands that were very violent or weaponized incompetence and didn’t rear their children, they basically antagonized them. The women had to do all the emotional labour. It’s why if you ask an Italian man about their childhoods often they speak about their mothers like they hung the moon and admit they barely knew or even resented their father. Even if he was in the picture. If men think they can go on a little tourist trip to Europe to find a ‘traditional’ wife they better be prepared for the pushback. The standards are high and because of how old school the culture has been, there’s been a reaction to it and now more than ever there’s a protectiveness of our women because of how stuck we’ve been in rigid customs and normalized abuse. I’m not saying it’s this utopia, femicide and injustice exists everywhere. My dad admits the only thing he commends when growing up in a small Italian village is if someone did harm a woman or child it was a community effort to make sure whoever did it was punished. But i know many towns and places in Italy likely are behind in that concept. Let me know if there is a country or place with true gender equality bc lol I doubt it, sadly.
