Great hive! I picked mine up from Rickey about 6 weeks ago and its doing great. We put it up in the yard near the house so we can watch the bees without having to head across the property where the rest of the hives are. Craftsmanship is great!!!
Trevor, that is some very kind words!! I'm so glad you like your horizontal hive and for trusting us to make you one. Would love to see a pic if you get time. (roarkrickey@gmail.com)
@@horizontalbees I’ll email you some pictures tomorrow. We had a bunch of family here last month for my daughters graduation, And they loved checking out the bees. The horizontal hive makes it really easy for show and tell.
@@tbflaten So awesome sharing your honey bees with other people. We need more beekeepers!! Thanks for the pictures. If you don’t mind I will put one in my next video.
@@horizontalbeesHi Ricky, Its going really well. I split bees into it about a month ago and they've produce a new queen which has just started laying. They seem to be very chilled out in my horizontal compared to when I inspect my verticals. I've decided that im eventually moving all my bees to top bar hives. Its they way I want to go forward. My horizontal hive is beautiful but it took an age to build. I made a top bar hive from scrap wood in 3 days and it looks amazing. I followed Phil chandlers instructions. Its a piece of cake. I love everything about keeping bees in top bar hive, and cant wait to fill it. I will film it and stick it up on TH-cam. 🙂
@@John-dl6re I just checked out Phil C TH-cam out and he has some great videos. Your horizontal hive is beautiful and I hope one day you try building another one, but until then bring in the top bar videos. Both of my grandfather’s ran top bars and I’m excited to yours!!
Hello my name is James from Monterey tn second year keeper started with three now have nine hives three of which are horizontal one of those is a Laynes hive. I have built all three have been viewing your videos love your designs. Saw the ones of David burns, Fred and barnyard bees great looking wood work
Hey James, What a great feeling knowing you like my designs and made your hives like mine!!! Dave burns, Fred and Barnyard are all great beekeeper. If you ever need anything please let us know, here is my email roarkrickey@gmail.com.
That's great!! I'm excited for them Rickey. New beekeepers and a Ferrari hive too!! You mentioned it being a sawmill hive?? I kept hearing someone sawing lumber with a handsaw in the back ground. They make sawmills with motors Rickey 🙄😂 Another very good job Rickey!!!
I hope this hot Ferrari stays put on the hill and brings them some golden honey. LOL that is to funny!!! The dog fell asleep right besides my camera and was sawing some logs in his sleep..lol Jeff you are the man!!
We smooth the outside just to help the paint stick a little better. The lumber prices are way cheaper and the wood is really good. The wood walls were 1 3/4" thick. I hope you get to try a horizontal hive... Thanks for watching!!

Could you share the plans would like to build one like that for my backyard
I have a video to help build a horizontal hive with the steps needed which are the most important part of the build.
Nice work! Is the sawmill hive rough cut lumber or do you plane it smooth? Been thinking about that since we have a lot of sawmills in my area.

How did the flow hive frames go ??
Right now they are not using them. I’m up loading a new video to explain what has happened to this hive. Thanks for watching!!
