    Hi Sweet Friends, Today I am sharing 5 Ways to Use Bone Broth - other than just warming it and drinking it! Did you know you can add it to a smoothy? I’ll tell you how! You can also learn How to Make all different types of bone broth - all different ways - in the slow cooker, the Instant Pot (the right way!), and on the stovetop here: th-cam.com/video/qCWcFsG-Np0/w-d-xo.html Love, Mary

    Warm is slowly with salt for a basic drink
    1. Add it to smoothies as protein
    2. Use as a substitute or addition for water in soups
    3. Use for making gravies
    4. Dehydrate it for powder
    5. Use in place you’d use water
    Bonus tip: make aspic with it.

    Hi, Mary. Something I use my bone broth for is in place of the water when I'm baking bread or buns or making pizza crusts. It works beautifully with the yeast and adds lots of nutrition to the recipes.

    You briefly spoke of mashed potatoes. Once I peel potatoes, cut them up, could I boil the potatoes in bone broth instead of water?
    Thanks for helping me and teaching me.

      Yes. You can boil anything in any liquid. For example, when I make rice, depending on the recipe I'm making, I may boil the rice in chicken broth or beef broth. The same goes for pasta. If I'm making a chicken pot pie or a Shepherds pie, and I want to cook my raw veggies until tender in liquid, I'll use chicken or beef broth then too.

    I just made some from leftover turkey bones and added onion skins and carrot skins, added the quarter cup of vinegar, strained the fat and it tastes so awful. Is it supposed to taste gross? I just hope it isn't bad. I have never made it before today so just wondering if it has that off putting taste or should I just throw it out?

    OFF-TOPIC (sort of) - Miss Mary, I am so sorry to ask you this question here - however, I can't find which of your original videos it was in. When you told us about the type of cloth you used for dishtowels, and straining (chicken broth, I think), etc., what was that material called?
    Thank you in advance!

They are available on amazon and at most big box stores. They are usually sold in a package of 12 and are very affordable. Please let me know if you have any other questions. So glad you’re here!! I follow you on Pinterest and Instagram. I will look for your Facebook group. I’m in the process of writing a cookbook book with traditional food but the main focus of my book is adding extra and fresh herbs to the recipe for medicinal value, I am also adding a section of all the herbs used and a list of their properties. I will prayerfully publish it next year. I am in the process of watching all of your videos. They are so healthy and beneficial to me because I have thyroid issues including Graves’ disease and Hashimoto disorder. If you ever have questions about essential oil or herbal information let me know I’ll help if you do not already know. I do sale products that I hand make but I also have my Consultation for New Clients who want me to help them naturally. I specialize in skin concerns and make products for this, one of my number sales is my Calendula oat milk salve. I formulated it for my grandchildren who struggle with Eczema. I also infuse all of my oils with herbs. Here is my website, just take a peak and I’ll go over to Facebook and look for you. One more thing, I’m a Christian from Sulfur Louisiana I’m Cajun but I stopped eating all the yummy haha unhealthy famous Cajun meals. Have a blessed day. Love Penny

    I put beef collagen powder in smoothies but I wouldn't use a cup or two of actual beef bone broth like she suggests. May be fine, but why bother. So many other ways to use bone broth that making a smoothie with it seems gross to me. Personally I mainly make chicken bone broth because it's cheaper to and quicker to passively acquire a lot of bones and chicken bone broth has specific benefits I'm after compared to other bone broths. I do use beef collagen powder to get varieties of collagen, but I mainly make only chicken bone broth. Anyways, I said all that to say this. I make my bone broth like a regular broth. Then I remove the herbs and veggies and chicken from the broth. I forgot to mention I cook off a family pack of thighs and drumsticks whilst making broth. I use all that boiled chicken for other meals throughout the week like chicken salad, chicken for tacos or other dishes etc. Anyways, after I remove the herbs, veggies and chicken I debone the cooked chicken and then I throw the bones all back in the pot and simmer for 8+ hours. I find this makes an incredible broth for soup but is also fully gelatinous when cool. Since I don't make the broth weekly I often have more deboned chicken bones in the freezer I add during that last step. The reason I like it this way is it tastes like chicken broth, not bone broth so I can make chicken noodle soup with it. Of course I can add small quantities in many recipes as well or even boil veggies in it and drink the broth with the veggies. A favorite here is cauliflower, especially riced cauliflower. Boil that riced cauliflower in just enough broth to cover the bottom of the pot over and steam the cauliflower. It's delicious. Works with any veggies tho. Just sub the broth for water and if you cover your veggies in water or broth to cook em you're using too much liquid. Regardless I always drink that liquid, so using bone broth makes it enjoyable

    after making bone broth does pressure canning take away any nutrients or a lot of nutrients?

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Elizabeth, This is a great question! What pressure canning does is "break" the gelatin because it can't withstand such high extended temperatures - so when you open the canned broth, it may no longer maintain its gelatinous properties (you can test it by refrigerating it.) However, it is still high in other forms of protein so it does have benefits. My attitude is that it is better to have bone broth canned for emergencies than no bone broth at all. Not all storage methods are ideal - some such as freezing and refrigeration - are better - but if canned broth is ready - especially in an emergency, it is worth having it on hand. Hope this helps. BTW - did I share with you that I have a playlist of some of my videos titled "Mastering the Basics of Traditional Nutrient Dense Foods Cooking". Hello Mary, thank you for your advice once again.
    Why shouldn't we boil it?
    I often find I have too much in the pan so I boil it to reduce, what is the danger in doing so?
    Thank you once again.

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dale Mcalpine - Hi Dale!! My sweet friend from across the pond! The problem with boiling bone broth is that you can “break” the gelatin… Damage the collagen. However if you want to reduce it, just simmer it over time trying to keep it from going over 180°F (about 82 C). Hope this helps!! Love, Mary🤗🤗🤗

    Thanks again for all the great information. I was curious if you had an opinion on powdered bone broth that you can buy at the health food store. I have been keeping both the beef and chicken on hand to you as much as you suggest here except since it is already dehydrated it has a long shelf life. My only hesitation was that even though it came from the health food store it is obviously going to be more highly refined product than bone broth I would make from scratch at home. The one I buy does not have any other added ingredients are chemicals. It is great for someone who is traveling and wants the benefit of the high protein but doesn't have the ability or space to make the bone broth from scratch.

      You can freeze it, but remember when things freeze, they expand, so don't fill the container up completely. You can also can it using a tested safe canning recipe and process. However, canning it breaks down the gelled collagen, but it's still healthy and nutritious.

    Hi. After reading that glycine in bone broth helps to remove glyphosate from the body, I decided to buy my first jar from the local organic shop. It's called Way Better Bone Broth Beef 500ml. I thought this stuff could be transformed into a soup, I didn't expect it to arrive in jelly form. It tastes revolting. How do I administer the jelly? Am I supposed to eat it straight from the jar? Do I mix it into my steamed organic vegetables or should I put it in my herbal tea? What am I supposed to add to this jelly bone broth? How do I make soup out of this jelly? The bottle says: Servings per pack: 4. Does that mean that I have to divide it into 4 separate meals? What an absolute rip off! I would have hoped that this expensive little bottle would last me more than 4 lousy servings. Pfft. I definitely won't be buying bone broth anymore, if it all looks like this, tastes like this, and doesn't last long for the price I paid. Forget it. I think I'll stick with the apple cider vinegar to remove glyphosate.
