I watch your videos and i think they are very interesting. I own high end daiwas and shimanos. For me the steez sv tw is the second best ever.. why? because it casts very far with 4-30 g ..not as far ad the metanium (but not a lot of difference) and it is lighter, but very tough too for a 160g reel...it is easyer to adjust, you can change from long-casting to skipping a bait in no time. This is a great thing on the water .It is smooth on the retrieve, there is no much of difference between the smoothness of this and shimano micromodule. And with air break it can cast far with no thumbing. It is not a reel made to cast the furthest. It is just more enjoiable and easy i think from 5 to 28 grams lures, because it is small and light but with a good Line capacity . There are a lot of spool options too. I prefere morethan 19 because it has 100 mm handle and despite being aluminum it is light as well... add an nrc spool or an sv 1012 spool and it is a ultra tough casting machine. Love shimanos but i think antares is too tricky..it is heavy and bulky for standard bass fishing..the maintenaince is tricky too. It is just a different kind of reel...but in the end i think it is not all about distance. Greetings from Italy

You can say that again. Distance is not everything. Distance without pinpoint accuracy is meaningless.

@@brandonlim6892 after years of fishing i onestly think that is true. Yes with dc or centrifugal i can cast a little more far.. but if i have to skip a lure under a tree because i see a blowup i can do it with no backlash in zero time with steez-zillion sv . That is the deal

To feel the true smoothness of this reel you have to clean the spool shaft bearing and spool side plate bearing of the factory grease, then put 1 drop of a very light bearing oil on each bearing.

  • @sgtpavlov

I'm lovin that spool weight. Still, that reels a bit pricey for me. The other day I put hybrid ceramic bearings into my gh100. The stock bearings that came in it were extremely caked with grease. If I were to clean them out in acetone , they'd have been better. The bearing on the spool was pretty much jammed on the shaft, and took king kong force to remove! I held a flame to the bearing, and held it under cold water to help get it off. It still took force to remove it even after that. If a bearing is that out of spec, there's no reason to use it, even after cleaning it out. Funny thing is after holding the bearing under the flame, it melted the grease off, and was spinning a hell of a lot better. The ceramic bearing fit on nicely, with enough room to move freely on the shaft. The reel casts a hell of a lot better with the ceramic bearings. This was the first time I've ever had a bearing stuck on a spool shaft like that.

Buy a SV boost spool and put into your Steez. This essentially makes it a limited model. I have one and they fit and work just fine in the older model Steez. A casting battle with the regular spool against the SV boost spool would be very interesting. Throw the Anatres in the battle for some variety.

Still uncertain as to what to buy in 2022 but thinking about a Diawa or Shimano. My baitcasting reels are all Shimano Calcutta's but they are more then 30 years old, and all still work, 1 of them the silver Calcutta's thumb button gives me some problems by not clicking all the way sometimes, but they all still work and I can't complain about over 30 years of fishing with them.

I think Daiwa doesn’t use the Magforce T3 anymore because of both problems they had with the moving magnets and the fact that the japanese market wanted a more controlled reel. As far as I know the Magforce T3 is just better at casting distance than the Magforce Z, but not better at control.

Yea yea,,, thanks... Been looking forward to this. For what it's worth... I like my inexpensive Tsunioya XF 50?, and other inexpensive,,,GH100 reels better than I like my SLX DC, Metanium DC and The Corado DC. Not sure why, I just understand setting the breaks better. Always have trouble setting the breaks on the DC models. I even returned my Antares DC. Just too heavy.
Just ordered some less expensive reels from China and also another cheap one last night, the old Phantom not the phantom X. Was looking for a light cheap real. It was like $70.00 I think.

I would argue that the Morethan PE 1000 TW is Daiwas current top of the line baitcaster due to the Steez CT SV's performance being neglectable compared to the old Steez. Not sure that the US has the Morethan yet though. And worth noting is that the Morethan and the Steez are built for different applications.

    The Reel Test,
You are a gear heads dream come true. Every time I get ready to make a new purchase you come out with another review and get my head spinning. This reel is way out of my league, but I do value the review, it will have influence on what I purchase, especially the Cons you mention. Makes you wonder what the corporate world is thinking when they do not put their best components on their top of the line reel. Makes me think they have some future announcements coming that do have their best components on them? My first adult purchase bait caster was a Diawa (had an old Ambassador as a kid) still have and use it. Waiting to see what Shimano comes out with based on one of your recent comments. I look forward to the upcoming field tests.

If the bearings are attached to the spool then the weight of "just the spool" doesn't seem significant. When casting you still have to overcome the inertia of the bearing and bearing case and such. Let me know if I'm wrong please. thanks.

only the inner portion of the bearing rotates, so the entire bearing weight doesnt add to the rotational mass if thats what you were asking.

Hi, in your opinion, does the Steez Limited Shallow (1000s XHL) cast light lures like the Steez Compact? They both have the same capacity (100m of 8lb), what changes is the diameter of the spool: 30mm for the compact and 34mm for the steez ltd. A thousand thanks.

  • @jimford8512

I wish you would have gone with the Steez A, its def a better reel overall. The sv tw is a great reel but the sv is def break heavy so dont be surprised when you do a casting battle that it comes up short. The Steez A casts much further imo. I will say this im a huge aldebaran fan and after having a SV TW and the alde mgl. One year after heavy use my SV still feels exactly like it did out of the box, so smooth. My alde is still smooth but noticeable not as smooth as when I first got it. Also dont pay attention to the "zero adjuster" your def going to want to adjust that to get full distance.

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  4 ปีที่แล้ว

My Aldebaran 50 got used heavily after it came out and is still just like it was out of the box. Not sure why the different reels have different zero adjuster settings. I may play with it if I feel its holding the reel back.

I wish Daiwa would stop being stupid about the Zillion line and revamp it. Back in the day the TD Zillions were some of the most sought after reels on the market... now there is just too much focus on the Steez and Tatula... and way to much focus on the SV spools. This is one of the reasons the Steez A is my favorite Daiwa to date. You get the Steez you love but without being held back by the SV spool. Don't get my wrong, SV is legit, but the spool doesnt cover all the bases.

Did you see the new metanium? It is a solid core one. And it appears to be smaller than the 16 mgl. And it had a mgl 3 spool. th-cam.com/video/Uow3IbVcihg/w-d-xo.html

For me, I feel daiwa’s high end reels will out performance shimano high end in daily use, after Tuned with aftermarket parts, a lot. On the other hand, shimano high ends doesn’t benefits much with tuning parts. And daiwa steez just lighter than Antares and smaller than metanium. I use them all, but for crank baits and jerkbaits, I love steez, just so much easier on myself.

I own the tatula 200 and tatula 300. I'm looking for a high end DIAWA swimbait reel. Which one would you recommend for seaguar 20lb abrazx and swimbaits 4oz and under ??? I also own the Anteres DC MD. I'm wanting a steez or a zillion but it's so hard to figure out which one would work.

lol...sorry, but this smokes anything shimano has to offer with regard to ALL around performance. i have the new met20 jdm...thrown the old met mgls...have the antares70....chronarch mgl jdm...and yeah they're great and all, but the king of the hill is this reel right here. smushy thumb bar on steez? shimano thumb bars are the worst...so high up on the spool and the gap between the spool...atrocious...my cell phone fell through the gap once...jk...but damn it's terrible. i bomb qtr oz swimjigs with my steez...keeps up just fine if not more so with any shimanos distance wise. but, casting distance is just one thing...and the steez separates itself with the shallow, wider spool (than met20) that allows it to transition from finesse lures to heavier with ease. and when it comes to skipping...a landslide in daiwa's favor. the magforce magnetic braking is so damn good, on max setting you can barely throw a lure out past 10 feet...exaggerating, but IS impressive. the spool is already loose out of box on the steez but you can take it further and when you do need to skip you can save yourself the backlash headaches by dialing up the brakes instantly. shimanos don't even compare in this department...hell you'd have to take the sideplate off and engage all 4 braking tabs then adjust the dial...another inferior design aspect on the shimanos in comparing to the steez sv tw is the braking system. it's a shame because i've been all shimano for a few yrs now, but finally got my first steez sv tw and have never looked back. your shimano bias clearly shines through in your videos, and fairly so it's your channel and it is all subjective, but to paint the steez sv tw as ordinary nearly had me spitting up my dinner. without question the daiwa steez sv tw, going on 4 yrs running now and soon to be 5 yrs, is still hands down the best baitcaster on the market. it's that simple. those who say otherwise haven't fished it or are in denial!

Mad? The steezs are the MOST overrated, overhyped and overpriced reels of all time. Literally a renamed Tatula. Daiwa fanboys only like them to flex on people, I’d rather flex an SLX xt on someone because Atleast the xt can cast far. My scorpion Mgl out casts my Steez A which is absolutely HILARIOUS to me, you Daiwa fanboys have your heads so far up your a$$es🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@@thechamplainfisher7854 what would i be mad about? read what i wrote champ instead of skimming then talking out of your @ss like most shimanoheads when Daiwa comes up. I like my Shimano reels...and if your SLX XT is outcasting your Steez A then you either don't own a Steez A or...you don't own a Steez A. If I had to fish Shimano I'd be more than fine with it. I've tried a ton of reels over the years because I wanted to see for myself instead of reading about it. I know denial is the biggest hurdle for you Shimano loyalists. If I had to choose two reels to own it would be the Daiwa Zillion 21 and the Shimano Metanium20. Unfortunately, Shimano's micro module gears are still suspect as my reel didn't even make it a year; buzzing nonstop now. It's an easy quickfix, but still. Champlain pick up a Daiwa Steez SV TW...not A and a Zillion21 from Japan....then comeback and talk. Those JDM Zillions can be had for $300 on ebay NIB...so what are you waiting for? And yes the SLX XT is a great reel...if I had a budget of $100 per reel it would be it; I've had mine since they launched and have never cleaned it and it runs great...if not better.

@@HBeretta I don’t even have an xt, that was for comparison, also why would I get a zillion when the Steez A is supposed to be better and why would I get an sv if the A is supposed to cast farther? I have a Steez A and it’s quite honestly ridiculous. For $500 I’d rather get a bantam and save the rest. The casting distance for a Steez A is not significant in the slightest, my scorpion casts farther than it even when the Steez is set to 2. Pretty pathetic if you ask me🤣
