Gotta keep thumb pressure on the thumb bar during the cast... today's longer handles and sometimes larger knobs, creates enough forward inertia to re-engage the reel on casts. I learned this on my Gen I Z2020H after this occurred a few times...luckily, no damage on the main and pinion and still super smooth and tight, since I purchased it from Brooklyn Bill's in spring 2010. I'm a curado fan because of that buttery feel. I do however prefer the flexibility of the magforce brakes on my Fuego. If this thing has that buttery feel, but casts light lures well, I may have to pick one up for my new finesse jig setup.
@tackleadvisors I was a Shimano fan, but 5 years ago I moved to Daiwa. I hate the Shimano disengaged system (clutch plate) because it scratches the body as you use the reel. In the beginnig the Shimano disengaged system is smooth, light to press... After months of use it turns to hard to press and it scratches the internals. All my Curados and Scorpions has the same problem. The same system of the Bantan showed on video. I have a 2004 Daiwa Alphas 103L and it performs like a brand new reel. Only Shimano premium reels like Calcutta Conquest series or Antares series has a different disengaged system that has no problem that I wrote. I have 2005 Calais 201A, 2004 Calcutta Conquest 51. Awesome reels! I have 2016 Zillions SV TW, 2019 Alphas CT, Tatula CT Type R, and now, 2021 Zillions SV TW G 100XHL (USDM version). I think that I will never go back to Shimanos...
The new Curado M has that same no movement in the main axle line, in the handle as the reels in this video. Splendid feel in the 201M!! Feels expensive as F. First reel for me that has no in/out movement on the main gear axle in the handle. Only very minor wooble in one knob, nothing in the other. Sooo very nice feel. So nice I'm going to buy another one to have for fishing in the brackish water here in the Baltic Sea. I use it for lighter -130g pike fishing. Will be fun to see how long it will hold up to this, as I often only throw around 50-75grams so should be no problem at all. Btw, this is the best TH-cam channel of all times! You old GOAT! BTW!! The M also has the orings on the spool shaft as this one, on both ends.
Bought mine based on your review - I bought a JDM-Version and the EU/US-Version. Easily my favourite reels at this point. These cast amazing and handle extremely well even if you're catching bigger fish by accident.
@@Rob-tl9md JDM version feels more refined but less sturdy. US-Version feels heavier and more robust but less refined. Was honestly surprised I could feel the differences.
Great video. Highly entertaining. I will most likely be picking up one or 2 of these new zillions. I’m literally still using my first generation zillion for cranking, lol
I wound up purchasing 2 of the highest gear ratio. The reels are definitely susceptible to scratching ,BUT they are incredible reels to operate. They are extremely fast(around 35 IPT), which is what I was lookin for. I paired them up with nrx+ rods and have been very pleased. In fact I look really forward to weekends just so I can get them in my hand. My favorite set ups.
sorry to be so late to the party on this one. Does this reel have the clicking drag? And if not, do you know which reels from the Steez/Zillion line do? Thanks for the great review.
I suspect if Shimano would have moved the Conical Line Guide on the Bantam all the way forward to the nose of the reel the distance casting would have been improved significantly. It is very odd to me that they overlooked that. The new Metanium is similar, but not as pronounced. I have the USDM version of the new Zillion pre-ordered. Can't wait to get it.
Have you tried the Daiwa Coastal SV or the Tatula Elite? I think lately Daiwa has been using Shimano's knobs or something lol, they look identical but I think that the newer models with these Shimano-like rubber knobs absorb a lot of that resonance you're talking about. I like my Coastal and Elite Tatulas more than my previous favorite the 2016 Zillion SV TW
the up close look early on in the vid where you're pondering a scratch as you're thumbing it clean had me laughing. i received my JDM zillion today from japan and to my surprise noticed a tiny blemish/paint bubble considering i'm in denial with my eyesight and need readers; 45 here. truly was funny considering the stigma of JDM products...the high standards...and was surprised it made it into the box. but whatever, they all get scuffed at some point. i'm impressed you landed yours for $320 shipped. the best i could find and i've been hawking ebay and the likes hard was $365 shipped for a 7.1:1, considering some are going for over $500 due to demand. regarding feel and smoothness it does have a different feel to it that i immediately compared to my steez sv tw reels...as you described. unless you've changed your stance on the new limited steez; i immediately saw it as a rehash cash grab. otherwise, daiwa has made their high end steez line obsolete overnight with this new zillion...even if you argued the 5.6 vs 6.1 oz which really is negligible in my hands. add a clicking drag on top of this at nowhere near the steez price...you'd have to assume that daiwa must be working on a new steez platform with the limited edition to maintain interest in the meantime...time will tell. if not, hello zillion!
Is the US version the Daiwa Zillion SV TW G Casting Reel on preorder on Tacklewarehouse. Or is that a completely different reel? I know the gear ratios and are higher, but US market never seems to get lower gear ratios.
I’m trying to get an opinion on the Bates Hundo vs the Daiwa Zillion. The only issue I have with the Zillion is the finish scratches so easily. I own one & love it except for that one problem. I have heard really good things about the Hundo and I’ve held one but haven’t fished with it or cast it. They’re basically the same price. The Hundo is super lightweight and beautiful! I don’t want to buy one and discover it’s not as good as the Zillion. If you’re the Tackle Junkie, I apologize for asking again but the caption says Tackle Advisors & doesn’t show your face but sounds like Tackle Junkie.
i just watched a video that stated that new zillion had a full magnesium body, is it true? Cause as far as i know, the material for the new zillion is aluminum alloy.
Love your in depth tear downs and reviews. You mentioned how making these reviews and the work involved can take a lot of time, so you really have to be excited about the product to make one of these. What do you think about just making a shorter 5 or 10 minute video on products that you've used and aren't too crazy about so we can get your opinion on them. I love watching all the high-end reviews you do, but all of my gear is entry level. The nicest reel I have is an SLX DC. If you get your hands on some more entry-level stuff and use it I think that many people would appreciate just a quick review. Just a thought. Appreciate all the work you put into these videos and your sense of humor, I get a good chuckle out of it.
I always wanted to do short form vids... Honestly.. That's what every single unboxing vid starts out as lol. And then the screwdrivers come out and the plan goes out the window.. Lol.... I think at this point.. I just do what I have fun with.. And let the chips fall as they fall. After 500 vids.. 300 plus made public... If I'm not having fun... Id be better off back in an office working a 9 to 5...knoe what I mean? I don't really even bother with weights and measures because it's boring and Google able.
First time seeing your channel, definitely like it! Just a quick question, do you think there will be a difference in smoothness between the aluminum jdm version gears and the brass us version gears. Still stuck between getting a 6 gear ratio for my blx cranking rod or an 8 gear for my dobyns flipping stick, was thinking a bantam for the flipping stick but after this video I’m thinking go with the zillion! Thanks and great video
Tough to tell... Without use... And time will always tell... But I don't want an 8:1 gear ratio with alu gears and small teeth to bare the brunt of smashing errant Hooksets with heavy line on tree limbs lol..that's going by past experience... No clue about the higher geared reels to be honest
@@TackleAdvisors See that’s kind of what I thought, I feel even with the brass gears it would still take it’s toll on the gears. I may just get the 6 and crank with it, with the small teeth it should be pretty smooth
Great video! I've been agonizing over buying this reel vs quite a few others. This to me looks like a Steez minus the magnesium. Based off of what I saw here and looking at the Tatula Elite series, I feel there's going to be a Steez revamping in the near future. I also suspect there will be a Zillion Long Cast or Zillion A TW on the way as well.
I've been impressed with the thumbar on this new reel. Big improvement over any of their older models. No longer any slop which makes the thumbar feel stiffer but so much better with regards to that mushy feeling of old. Great vid and well put with regards to this reel! I ordered a new Roro bfs spool for this reel. Have you heard any info as to how those spools might function on this reel??
I have been using both roro spools rx 27 and 30.....order their sic bearings if you want the best performance.. Especially in the cold... Also make sure you loosen the spool tensioner / zero adjuster otherwise you'll have an issue snapping the latch shut... They're great! The red spool outcasts the booster distance wise... And the bfs spool throws a bare hook and 4mm tungsten bead very well with stock bearings... I think that's 8 tenths of a gram
hey brother, i got this reel in main today, i thought it was missing a pawl cap. Does this reel not come with one? the bar that is blocking in the OSC pawl supposed to just be open to the elements like it looked like it was in your video? really appreciate any response
Where do I send my zillion tw hd 1520? I just bought it off SU, and something isn't right with it. Sloppy spool (side to side), and it doesn't spin very freely when I give the handle a good whip.
Hi! Thank you for this info! Can you halp me to find out, why this reel with index 100 G weight 190 g and 1000 GDM model weight 175 g? And what about ball bearings, the is no CRBBs in this model?
Years later, this beast can be had sub $200 from Japan. The value is the absolute highest we've ever seen in the fishing industry. Puts 100% of Shimano offerings to shame.
@@vapezide6458 Its a nobrainer combo with an X10 or not. Better than any Shimano offerings, and for the price, a much better deal than any of the current steez.

What’s up TA! I ordered a JDM Daiwa Luvias Airity. If I sent it to you would you make a video taking it apart? (That’s my way of asking if you’d service it if Daiwa US gives me a hard time 😬) 🤞🏼
What are your thoughts on the battle 3 vs the BG? I was in the process of buying a bt3 4000 but after realizing they dropped the aluminum rotor and spool bearing, I’m not so sure. Especially since they put that same bearing in the DX model, but for extra money.. Am I too worried about the rotor and bearing, or is that something to be concerned about?
I want to ask you about shimano mgl spool. Is it magnesium or aluminium? Many people reported that the spool corrode after using it for saltwater fishing. There are not many info about mgl except on their website
Depending on which spool I have in it.. Roros u currently have 4lb nanofil, 10lb maxima, 6lb Berkley x 9. On the zillion I have 30lb googan on it now... Will likely put 20lb power pro super slick v2 on it... When the grass gets thick I'll go to Berkley x5 or hitena pureline (or try something new)
I prefer the FL in every aspect, except if I'd use it for finesse. The Vanford has that same hollow feeling that the Ci4+ has. I don't mind, but I definitely like the FL more.
Since you've cast it already - what do you think about max casting distance Zillion 21 vs Metanium 20, please? Got so many reels and little time on the water recently, but feeling the itch after 2 years of not getting any new toys haha! Here's hoping for an Aldebaran 22 bfs with brass gears and a lefty OJ 4000...doubt that will happen though.
They never came out with a lefty ocea jigger in Japan? Damn that sucks... Something bfs from shimano is coming to the USA... Hearing some chatter about it... My guess is it'll be named curado somethin... I don't have any real time on the met... Sooon though.. It was on my radar then other stuff came up and now it's back on my radar after new Waders... The zillion though is sweet.. And for 60$ you can turn it into an excellent bfs reel
@@TackleAdvisors Yessir, lefty 4000k OJ's come only in the smaller sizes :( I can jig the other way around, but of course not anywhere near as good...Accurate reels aren't bad either (got one of these pimped 600N's from New Zealand), but I love OJ's. Got two smaller ones and I almost like them more than my Stella fleet for topwater fishing. There's just something about them...hard to break simplicity, yet quite refined.
@@TackleAdvisors oh and that's great news regarding the curado something hahaha! Thank you! Have both Zillions, J Dream and the newer one released in umm 2015? The 2015 one did not deliver what the name Zillion implied imo. Usually not fishing it much. Surely you'd agree. Great to hear the new one is top notch!
So I’m on the fence between this reel meaning the Zillion and the new Shimano Metanium DC 70 for 2024 Which one casts farther cause I fish from Shore. And smoothness .
The SV Boost spool seems interesting. I went with the Alphas SV TW instead. I wanted to check parts compatibility with the Alphas AIR TW. It's a pretty solid reel too.
I'm curious if my experience will change with warmer temps.. I swapped the bearings to dry hybrids which should prove as a winter work around of sorts. With stock bearings the roro rx30 carts as far as the booster #4 dial setting... With far more control.. But with more effort and flatter trajectory. So that was interesting. So yeah... The massive spool Rpms due to the line recoil will likely allow mono users to stay at the same setting and get a bit more carry.. Could be completely wrong. Yo... Was that reel test dude serious when he told you the roro spool was trash because he didn't adjust the tensioner? Someone dm'ed me that... Couldn't believe it.
@@TackleAdvisors I am not sure if he was serious. I haven't used the Roro spools for "heavier" lures yet, mainly ned rigs and lighter. I like them a lot, especially for the money. Easy way to add versatility to a reel and also breathe new breath into an old reel.
Actually, for those that have been on the JDM train since say, the mid-late 1990s...the side profile of the Zillion 2021 is more long the lines of the Gen II Metanium, the same frame that gave us the USDM CH D5/D7 and Cores, along with the OG JDM Metanium MG7. The Alphas is actually THE REEL that spawned more copy-cats for modern LP designs than just about any other, especially when considering all the BPS, Lews, 13s, Revos and all other OEMs. Granted some cheap knock-offs of the TDZ were also had with OEM offerings. The "most copied" look still, has to be the classic Abu Ambassadeurs and then to the Calcutta designs...but I digress...
I made the mistake buying one of these..... I like it so much I then made the mistake upgrading everything you possibly can to make it a custom reel.... I like it so much I feel like my antares 21 dc reels feel cheap.... I no longer have a logical concept on how a quality reel should feel.... lol save me

With all that being said, please put those reels back together. You're giving me a heart attack! Awesome video. Subscribed
Bought mine based on your review - I bought a JDM-Version and the EU/US-Version. Easily my favourite reels at this point. These cast amazing and handle extremely well even if you're catching bigger fish by accident.
any difference between the 2?
@@Rob-tl9md JDM version feels more refined but less sturdy. US-Version feels heavier and more robust but less refined. Was honestly surprised I could feel the differences.
Caught my first bass on a 1/8 oz spoon with this reel. It is simply amazing.
Please get your hands on a zillion TW HD for review they look and sound great
They are just a Zillon TWS with a recessed side plate. The Zillion TWS was a monster, even without the HD version...
Great video. Highly entertaining. I will most likely be picking up one or 2 of these new zillions. I’m literally still using my first generation zillion for cranking, lol
There are a schiteload of OG Zillions still ticking and takin' a lickin'....after a decade and a half of hard fishing.
@@vansaukam799 and they are so old school lookin and sweeeeet
I wound up purchasing 2 of the highest gear ratio. The reels are definitely susceptible to scratching ,BUT they are incredible reels to operate. They are extremely fast(around 35 IPT), which is what I was lookin for. I paired them up with nrx+ rods and have been very pleased. In fact I look really forward to weekends just so I can get them in my hand. My favorite set ups.
Best fishing tackle guy on TH-cam
Love these teardown reviews mate. Would love to see a vid of your bearing maintenance as well (airbrushing with acetone etc). Pleeeease 🙏🏽
sorry to be so late to the party on this one. Does this reel have the clicking drag? And if not, do you know which reels from the Steez/Zillion line do? Thanks for the great review.
Thank you for the video. How does the Zillion compare to the Bantam in Size, retrieve, casting, & general performance?
Do you still like this reel from a year ago? Is it still one of your favorites?
Hey maybe I’m way too late for a reply but what was that 16 strand braid you mentioned I’ve never heard of that before
Another great vid. You my #1 source for reviews. What’s the name of the 16x green braid on the other reel? Thanks.
Is the US version the Daiwa Zillion SV TW G Casting Reel on preorder on Tacklewarehouse. Or is that a completely different reel?
I know the gear ratios and are higher, but US market never seems to get lower gear ratios.
All i want to know is how you so confidently pull those e-clips off without worrying about them launching off into another dimension
I have bulk e clips just in case... And usually a on step yank prevents the rocket boosters from engaging
You have great content. Don't let people steal your lunch with their negative comments.
I enjoy the negative... They don't come up often so it's easy... And I address them each and every time
*Slides reel across table*
“Set that aside…. gently.”
😂😂😂 Love your humor. Reminds me of AVE only easier to pick up.
Excellent review. I’m excited to get my hands on one. Is it good enough to replace my 2020 Mets though? Worth it?
Dude, why "replace"...add more. ;-)
This guy knows stuff
Great video! Do you feel the same resonance in the steez a? Thanks.
@@TackleAdvisors sounds reasonable to me. Keep doing what you're doing. 👍👍
Is a water review and a comparison between zillion and steez ltd coming? Would make me happy
Was playing with the thought of buying one... watched the video an ordered it 😂🤙🏼
Oh baby! I can’t wait! One of these with a P5 Destroyer would be so cool!
Good choice, an X-Bites would be insane 🐟💪🏻
Yep, I’ll be putting the Zillion on my P5 Super Destroyer.
Daiwa already announce 2021 STEEZ A TW HLC. Wait for it to be on the market
Can you make a video on how to spoon braid onto this reel?
What’s the lowest weight this reel would handle comfortably please? Thank you
I've been impressed with the thumbar on this new reel.
Frig, under a gram with an all-purpose power bass/FW LP reel? Paradox in full action.
thanks for the breakdown info, i purchased two more today
hey brother, i got this reel in main today, i thought it was missing a pawl cap. Does this reel not come with one? the bar that is blocking in the OSC pawl supposed to just be open to the elements like it looked like it was in your video? really appreciate any response
It's supposed to be that way.
Hello I have an older zillion 1514 and it has cuts in the top of t wing how do I fix adjust that please caused I think by braid cutting into it
It's a crazy smooth reel and very light.
Legalis, Fuego, or Exceler?
Wonder why you stop making video really love that you are a pro on new and old reel
Where do I send my zillion tw hd 1520? I just bought it off SU, and something isn't right with it. Sloppy spool (side to side), and it doesn't spin very freely when I give the handle a good whip.
Great video, as are the rest em. When are you going to put out some new ones though?
We need some new ones.
which one between metanium vs this one would you recommend ?
When are you getting the new penn fathom Low profile What do you think about the new reel
The best thing they did was to move the brake dial to the bottom.
Should I get it to pair it with my Megabass orochi X10 bandersnatch ?
@@vapezide6458 Its a nobrainer combo with an X10 or not. Better than any Shimano offerings, and for the price, a much better deal than any of the current steez.
Are you going to buy the 2022 Daiwa Zillion TW HD 1000 H what do you think about the 2019 shimano vanquish is it better than the daiwa luvias Airity LT FC 2000 plus what up are you making any more videos on TH-cam or did you call it quits
What’s up TA! I ordered a JDM Daiwa Luvias Airity. If I sent it to you would you make a video taking it apart? (That’s my way of asking if you’d service it if Daiwa US gives me a hard time 😬) 🤞🏼
Another great review! I purchased the Bantam. Thank you for all the time you put in to share with us.
Pls review the new CALDIA 21 LT too. After by adding some extra bearings and some fine adjustment I love mine as much as I love my Certate.
I want to ask you about shimano mgl spool. Is it magnesium or aluminium? Many people reported that the spool corrode after using it for saltwater fishing. There are not many info about mgl except on their website
It irrationally bothers me that level wind gears are nylon even though they don't bear any load...
What braid are you using for this reel? If it possible: brand and diameter?
Depending on which spool I have in it.. Roros u currently have 4lb nanofil, 10lb maxima, 6lb Berkley x 9. On the zillion I have 30lb googan on it now... Will likely put 20lb power pro super slick v2 on it... When the grass gets thick I'll go to Berkley x5 or hitena pureline (or try something new)
Very interesting, thanx!
I'll waiting for USDM version of this reel, it should be with brass gear.
Can it be used in saltwater? Fishing for coho / chinook salmon.
If you really want to be impressed with a reel just order a damn Vanford, it’s like the ci4 and an FL had a baby, Like if you want Scoob to see this
I prefer the FL in every aspect, except if I'd use it for finesse. The Vanford has that same hollow feeling that the Ci4+ has. I don't mind, but I definitely like the FL more.
Think you could use a black lock plate instead of that plastic shimano style handle nut cover???
What's the name of the 16 strand braid? I couldn't make out what your saying in the video.
Gosen 16
I just won the 7.1 model and I’m excited to compare it to my new steez limited since you said the zillion is the better reel. Awesome video.
Will these reels hold up in saltwater? Looking for a new wading reel
08:26 What braided line did you mention here?
Love the content. You should look at the Penn baitcasters.
Shimano Bantam vs Daiwa Zillion SV TW vs Daiwa Zillion TW HD 1000 (2022) , Which the best one Sir..?
Thanks..
only used the base model zill.....I like the old bantam....really enjoy the zillion.....still fish them regularly......I'd go zillion if it were me.
Sorry, my english is not the best: at 8:30 what is the name of that good fishing line?

@@TackleAdvisors Thanx!!
So I’m on the fence between this reel meaning the Zillion and the new Shimano Metanium DC 70 for 2024
Which one casts farther cause I fish from Shore.
And smoothness .
The SV Boost spool seems interesting. I went with the Alphas SV TW instead. I wanted to check parts compatibility with the Alphas AIR TW. It's a pretty solid reel too.
That thing is good
I'm curious if my experience will change with warmer temps..
Easy way to add versatility to a reel and also breathe new breath into an old reel.
daiwa knowing damned well that no one in japan can pronounce zillion.
Thays effed up.... Funny.. But effed up lmao
Best comment on the entire board 😂
Better than saying "Carolina Rig"
My first jdm reel was a libero pixy... Wish I still had it.. My point wasn't to flame anyone.. But just show a side by side as it was pretty funny.
@@TackleAdvisors - understood my friend.
I made the mistake buying one of these..... I like it so much I then made the mistake upgrading everything you possibly can to make it a custom reel.... I like it so much I feel like my antares 21 dc reels feel cheap.... I no longer have a logical concept on how a quality reel should feel.... lol save me
Compare to Morethan PE TW SV-SHL which is better bro?
Whats the max casting weight?
Hi sir. For ur opinion, zillion 21 with steez a which is better ?
How do you compare antares a to steez?
Hi sir,do you think this reel good against saltwater because im try to get one of daiwas for my both fishing type fw and sw.
Im using other brand before but my heart kind of getting touch by this zillion. 😂
All reels can be used in the salt. Go for it!
This reel is saltwater fine(full aluminium body).

Told ya, blew my mind. Btw, when assembled, do your level wind move from left to right when pushed the Twing left & right? Mine is moving. I should check the bushings if i had lost them 🤣. Maybe replace them & make the bearing count just like steez sv limited. I alrdy use gomexus knobs with 2 bearing each.
There is some play in the TWing in the worm track.. But the worm doesn't move much.
Replacing with good quality bearings is easy enough... Add em if you want.
