    I'm pretty sure the "zero adjuster" doesn't work like you think it does. My understanding is that you are meant to check it when you first get the reel and adjust it to minimize movement and then just leave it alone. The idea is that the brakes are so good that you don't need to use spool tension to prevent a backlash. You do however want the spool to be somewhat stable and not moving side to side during your cast.

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know more than anyone how adding some spool tension can increase casting distance because Ive gone out and measured it. Im not touching the zero adjuster(even though it can help) because thats what Daiwas instruction are, plus it triggers the fan boys lol

      Herbert Gearing your absolutely correct the zero adjustment, means you don’t touch the cast control knob at all it’s all controlled by the mag brakes. It’s set from the factory to just stop the side to side movement of the spool.

    I have yet to get a Tatula or Zillion that casts like the older Team Daiwas. The newer daiwas components just sit as well as Shimano. One of the reason I changed when Team Daiwa dropped their pro staff and got the new look. Its just amazing how a company that were so many light years ahead just simply nose dived against Shimano.

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the newer Daiwas are their best casters (non SV) but they are stubborn and prideful and have painted themselves into a corner by not trying new things. And IMO they were never light years ahead of Shimano. Most of their "innovations" are fluff and never provided any real world advantages in my experience.

    • @MsTheSteffy

      I agree to a point. I started fishing when the TD hi's came and and then after the TDX's. Compared to reels of that era they were super refined, Casted amazing and just looked premium. Attention to detail was top notch. Different strokes for fifferent folks lol. Just glad to see someone else being such a tacklenut as I am.
      I dont easily buy into the competitors hype. A Abu, Lews, Quantum or a 13 fishing reel for example just doesnt feel the same. When you start fishing a descent Shimano its not that evident but switch nack to a different brand and I just seem to feel done in.

Because its hard to relate to guys with 100k bass boats loaded with all the latest electronics getting towed by a 60k truck. Its not hard to relate to the guy beating the banks though. I personally would love to see a new centrifugal brake system from Daiwa, and not that simple system on the Pixy SPR. I do acknowledge the build quality of Daiwas is top notch. Except for the CG80 .

    Daiwa reels never show much progress year after year. They seem happy not being the lightest or casting the farthest. They look and work the same year after year. They are the 1970 Volkswagen Beatle of casting reels. I always thought they were ugly compared to other reel models. They prove reliable and long lasting; however, this makes them boring. I believe they have taken their braking system as far as it can go and it cannot compete on the level of newer technologies. Their braking system uses too many parts to do the same thing simpler designs do with fewer parts and less weight.

    • @gizmocarr3093
      @gizmocarr3093 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @vince orr albert I am sure Daiwa reels are good casting reels. On any given day, they will outperform other reels. Anglers who prefer them are the proof. The truth is maximum casting distance is just one point to do with how a reel performs. Anglers become loyal to one brand of reel because they trust the name brand because of previous experiences. Daiwa makes quality reels, rods, and tackle. However, so do many other reel manufactures but few have the long-standing history Daiwa does. I buy and use all brands of tackle because it fits my needs. If any Daiwa reel casts slightly shorter in a test is no reason to think it is inferior. The rod, lure, and line can easily change results. If you like Daiwa reels, better I see your point perfectly. If you own both Shimano and Daiwa, it seems you have tried different brands of reels as I have. This gives you good basis for your opinion. I think it is good to hear more comments like yours.

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gizmo Carr I couldnt have said it better myself. Daiwa has been stepping sideways for almost 10 years now, and backwards in a couple of areas. They will need to swallow their pride and try new "technologies". I would love to see them come out with an externally adjustable centrifugal braking system. Shimano has even proven they do dynamic mag brakes better with FTB. You arent going to gain marketshare catering to fanboys only.
