For anyone considering building the Fortress sliding sawstop add-on and jig, I can't recommend it enough. I tried so many other solutions and finally built this when he first showed it in a video a couple months ago and it's been bang-on square ever since. Truly saved me from so much agony after a year and a half of fighting the slider.
Awesome video as always! Plus, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that you have your woodworking video in the background while your sponsor advertisement is in a window. Totally understand that advertisements are a part of the creator process, but I really want to show some appreciation for the extra shooting and editing put into how you incorporate them into your video. It's brilliant. Thank you.
Walnut is my go to wood. And the accent wood I usually choose is Wenge which gives the black accent but without using paint or stain. This color combo is so classic, warm and luxurious. Great job!
Easily got my thumbs up! No stupid music, got to hear much of the actual sounds of the tools and processes, narrated by a real person instead of PATHETICALLY LAME ai, provided a lot of useful details, and the video is just overall down to earth. Thank you
WOW!!! That turned out GORGEOUS!!!! I REALLY love that shimmer in the wood contrasting with the matte black in the river sections.. I bet you it looks AMAZING during sunrise, sipping on coffee, rubbing you big comfy socks on the cross members of the legs during those first chilly moments of the morning, waiting for the heat to warm up the house again..... I don't know what it is about your channel but I can so easily picture myself using your builds when you show them off.... I actually think it has something to do with your voice... it sounds weird, I know.... but I find myself so calm, relaxed, and focused while watching your builds (only pausing to catch my breath from almost seeing you fry yourself..... TWICE! lol) I can't wait to see what you make next! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!
It is wonderful that you not only explain your process as you work, but you also share the reasoning behind your choices along the way so clearly. Thank you.
I agree. That doesn't mean that I'd do it the same way. Mostly because my shop is so small, it won't accomodate a tablesaw, jointer, etc. I'd have done that bevel by hand;-)
I love the legs!! In fact, I think you are truly the greatest at designing a full piece from the top to the bottom. From your gothic table legs to this table it is a true gift. The legs never seem like an afterthought and always fit the piece so well.
Hey man! Love your works, channel, and drive. I’m just getting started taking up woodworking as a chronically ill 22yo, and I watch your vids when I’m doing my projects. Something about the way you edit your vids eases my anxiety for some reason, so I think that’s pretty cool too. Keep doing what you’re doing, you’re awesome!😊

Ok, i am not an epoxy fan but this table is gorgeous. The detail on the base is amazing and your finishing skills are next level. And using a jointer to add the bevel? Brilliant! Scary, but brilliant lol! Thank you for another great project/video. As I have said for a long time, this is the best woodworking channel on TH-cam.
I've seen so many people remove the bark from these slabs, and always thought it was a waste because I personally think it looks so much more cooler. This is the first time I've seen the reason explained and it makes so much sense! Thank you!
watch black tail too and you will see two styles that compliment each other and he goes on to explain things as he goes as well. eta as a resin artist i will tell you that those bits of bark can and will break off and float or sink making your project not look good as well as making it more fragile
Such a beautiful table man!, i mean the construction was very methodical and you have the patience to properly go through it. But the finishing man...psss that looks killer! You know your stuff ! Also great macro shots , great lights and b roll shots. My God i bet it takes forever to edit it, and i hope your channel continues to grow. For me its very relaxing to binge watch your content :) have a good day man!
4:15 just use the underside of the table don't need much a thin diamond shape slice just like a veneer making sure the grain is in the same direction, of course fill the hole first with epoxy or donor but leave enough for the thin veneer to be slightly higher so you can carefully hand plane it off then sanding. You won't even see the patch unless you're looking hard for it on the table.
😮❤❤ I know your mother was super happy with that table because it came out perfect. She must be very proud of you. You put a lot of work into it and it’s gorgeous.😊😊😊
Hi Cory, one week later and your video shows up. Better late than never, right? So glad to see my very favorite cabinet maker back! I agree with those who pointed out to not liking to see the bark being removed from those slabs, as they look much more interesting in terms of texture. Finally I can accept why it's removed because you took the time to explain why! I also agree your videos have indeed a calming effect that comes from your voice and the fact you LOVE what you do. The story telling, the banters - adorably funny you - and before we know it we're presented with another art work, a synthesis of master craftsmanship and sheer beauty. Can't wait to see what you'll bring next! Until then be well and happy. Thank you!
With this beautiful project and the skills you display earned you a new subscriber. My home woodshop has been idle for many reasons and now I've got some motivation to dust off my tools and get to work in there thanks to you.
I've watched it front to back twice now and over and over in some areas. Marvalous. At 28:48 I do see the stain, but prior I saw a 'sealing coat' around 27:46 using some lacquer and then shallacq to see other areas (Areas on the wood?). What did you use as the final finish? I've not been able to find a finish that somewhat seals pours (those black micro lines in walnut) and smooths it out somewhat. I'm hooked on your work.
Thank you! I used two coats of Halcyon Gloss after 4 days of the stain curing. Here's a link www.totalboat.com/products/halcyon-water-based-varnish?sca_ref=5718157.55vcje6aYW Then I used 2 coats of Envirothane 100 - 10 sheen which is satin/ matte. But you can use Halcyon Satin. You can get it using the same link.
Man you are a genius your videos are a work of art just like your furniture. That idea for cutting the other half of the tenons is great along with the jointer for the bevel makes me want to try thinking out of the box a bit more when I make my furniture
Dumb question, do you lighten the stain immediately after applying with the mineral spirts, or do you let the stain dry before wiping with the spirts? Thanks!

Ok final question I believe, You've got me worried about my walnut projects a bit, as I haven't witnessed the yellowing. I'm doing a project now which will get a lot of natural light as the whole front of the house is windows. lol So I'm finishing with boiled linseed. Should I still pre stain as you did for this project? Thank you sir!!

My Great Uncle was a Cabinet Maker, if he did a Dutchman Patch on a project? One of them would always be a butterfly... he would take the time to draw out the body, wings and antennae and use some fine wood working to hammer in some brass and silver wire, so the Dutchman became a Conceit and nearly a signature of his.
Exceptional build! BTW, I've seen C-channel bent by slabs that have warped. Would be worse without the channel, but its not 100% warp proof. I was terrified watching the jointer bevel! Well done :)
I guarantee that's because the bolts were too tight and wouldn't let the slab expand and contract. Then it would cause more issues than solving them. Thank you so much!

I'm glad you're enjoying them! That's the least I could ask for
Awesome job! Stumbled across your channel after watching some bald guy wearing flip flops that has an $800 jigsaw. 😂 I am a (young) medically retired paramedic that has gotten into woodworking as a calming/stress relieving hobby. I definitely want to grow my talents. With guys like you around, it helps. Still not buying a $800 jigsaw though.
Haha I don't have an expensive jigsaw either. That's great that you are building your talents!
@@FortressFineWoodworks working with the contractor tools I inherited when my dad died. 80’s era craftsman table saw, thickness planer and a nice 12” dewalt sliding compound miter saw. Just picked up a 80’s craftsman 12” bandsaw. I’ve made a couple of urns (im now working at a funeral home doing a little bit of everything from maintenance to helping with services).
Oh man, you did a fantastic job!👍🏻👌🏻
I appreciate that!
Amazing finishing work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Drew is more a piece of cottonwood, if you catch my drift.
Oh I catch it!
Beautiful work.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I appreciate it!
Don't you dare say epoxy table is woodworking!!!! Beautiful table... I really like the black accents on the legs!
Haha thanks for watching! It's more like art
@@FortressFineWoodworks your work is, but for us mere mortals.....😁
awesome filming and sound
Glad you liked it!
11:27 you most likely have ‘fit to page’ selected in your printer options. You need to change to ‘actual size’.
I wish it was that simple. I will take a look though, thanks!
The green blower!!😂😂 there goes my coffee!!
Hahaha thanks for watching
Love the base, gorgeous top too.
Thank you!
That's fancy! Sounds amazing
@@FortressFineWoodworks well, was from a very experienced builder, so maybe not. But I hear you :)
Add an overhead pivoting support beam or "crane" similar to Lincoln Street or Mike Farrington, it would hold your dust collection and/or cord.
Yah that would certainly help! Thanks
First time watching your videos and already learned something new to up my game. I subscribed and will check your other videos out! AMAZING WORK AND AWESOME VIDEO!!
Thanks for subscribing and I hope you enjoy some of my other content!
How do you get your paint so perfect?
Good primer, good urethane, and a heck of a lot of practice
@@FortressFineWoodworks It really is a work of art.
Forgot to wax the mold! Thanks for showing that. It's reassuring to know that even the professionals make "dumb" mistakes.
Maybe I won't be so hard on myself when I do something stupid, which, by the way, happens almost every time I'm in the workshop. 🥴🤪
Haha ya that's just part of the process. Thanks!
Awesome stuff....When I grow up I wanna be like you 😄 Jokes aside, I learn multiple things from every one of your videos, and I absolutely love your work, so thank you! Your videos are so good and inspire me to do better on my videos as well. Cheers!
That's very nice! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
What tip size do you use for the airless sprayer? Is it air-assisted or normal?
The parts are linked in the description. The tip is a 308 fflp and the unit is normal airless
OK, yes absolutely beautiful as always, Maybe I missed it. I don't use odorless mineral spirits. Is it white?? Or have you added something to it??
Thank you for what you do for all of us!!
This is a "green" form of Odorless Mineral Spirits that has less impact on the environment. The link is in the description of the video
@@FortressFineWoodworks Ok final question I believe, You've got me worried about my walnut projects a bit, as I haven't witnessed the yellowing.
I'm doing a project now which will get a lot of natural light as the whole front of the house is windows. lol
So I'm finishing with boiled linseed. Should I still pre stain as you did for this project? Thank you sir!!
Incredibly talented. ❤
Thank you!
Excellent job as always! Well done
I appreciate that very much!
Looks great!
Thanks man!
