    Everything on Ultimate Sin is still giving me chills and thrills after however long it's been. The fade out solo on Never Know Why though. Can't even remember the first time I heard it. It's like it's always been there, screaming and howling and lamenting in my head.

    NOT many individuals could come in (after Rhoads) and do THEIR style and STILL make a INCREDIBLE mark in Hard Rock music (mainly the guitar) AND ALSO save Ozzy's azz (as the Metal Madman) ALL them years. Jake's a bad mutha and I also LOVED the BADLANDS stuff he did. I also dig the Charvel guitar sound as 1 of my old guitarist (I played drums) had an off white one, and he stripped it all down and I stripped the body and primed/ painted it gloss black urethane automotive paint for him. He was so blown away by it, he assembled the ol Charvel and RETIRED IT and went out and bought a BC RICH! I was like "I love your new guitar BUT....? I redid your CHARVEL cuz I wanted you to play IT! The amount of feeling you play any riff you come up with has an enormous impact on achieving just that and Jake is a huge feeling guy. It's why Ozzy grabbed him up in the first place. It's 1983 and the absolute legend Randy Rhoads has been gone for a year .. Bernie Torme is cool but just doesn't fit .. Brad Gillis is good but has other things in mind .. Ozzy - the former frontman of one of the most legendary bands ever - is probably pacing the room, coked out of his mind "SHARON, SHARON, GODDAMNIT, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO .. I'M A FAILURE" .. Ozzy is on the brink of being a complete has-been .. It doesn't look good .. In comes this unknown kid with not only the eyes of the guitar world on him but the career of Ozzy Osbourne on the line .. No pressure, right ?? How many guys could handle this ?? What does Jake do ?? .. Jake goes in and the first thing we ever hear is Bark At The Fucking Moon and one of the greatest guitar riffs and leads ever ... EVER .... Jake, you are forever a guitar hero - back against the wall, cards stacked against you ( including your own management ) you came up with a classic ...

      Lucas, YOU NAILED IT. Now, after all these years EVERYBODY has an opinion. But I remember those years..it was make or break for Ozzy. Jake saved his Bacon. And what did he get? Not even a credit for the songs he wrote. Sorry, but that's what Jake has said for years..and it makes sense. But back to the original point. Jake E Lee, nailed it and Ozzy (and Sharon) owe him alot...he saved the gig for them. Or it would have been sabbath reunions, and nothing more.

      Lee mentioned in an interview that , guitar skills aside, his image : black hair etc . was the only other way to go for Ozzy. Had Ozzy tried to replicate Randy's image/stamp on Ozzy's career (i.e. another blonde haired shredder etc.) it would've just looked like Ozzy was trying to milk the success he & Randy created. Of course, after Le & Ozzy FURTHER cemented Ozzy's career, then a player with blonde shredder image could come back in & it wouldn't look obvious : hence Zakk Wylde .

    Jake E Lee was the reason I bought a Charvel after years of being a Gibson SG guy. Still love an SG but the Charvel I got for half the price of a Gibson can do everything from Jazz to Metal and I absolutely love it. Also The Ultimate Sin Album and Badlands are criminally underrated.

      Geo B Well he was young and she gave him a choice either leave and we will erase your guitar tracks on Bark and have someone else play your guitar parts or stay and accept the deal. I would have done the same thing and stayed and pull out the vasoline...Even Ozzy had told him he had to "fuck him over" when Ozzy was in Sabbath they got fucked by Don Arden Sharons dad and Ozz told Jake when he has his own band he will fuck over someone else..its business. I dont condone what Sharon did to Jake but its a cruel world out there man and sometimes you just have to take it...with a jar of vasoline. Its business

      Efilnikufesin
      that's exactly my point. He went from playing in bars to playing in sold out arenas and stadiums in the mother fucking OZZY band...I mean, it couldn't get any better for him as a guitar player and musician, but she had to power to drop him if he didn't agree to her demands. Financially and otherwise, he got double fisted by Sharon and that does suck.

    I saw Jake E. Lee with Ozzy on the Bark at the Moon tour at San Diego Sports Arena, probably in '83 or '84. RATT opened the show. My buddy and I went mainly to see RATT because they were one of the up and coming bands and we loved their debut EP. We liked Ozzy but weren't sure about this new guitarist he had. Losing Randy Rhoads was devastating and who could replace Randy Rhoads anyway? Well, that Ozzy show was so fucking good and largely because Jake E. Lee was so goddamned good on stage. Not just playing but movement, rocking out, stage presence, look, etc. He had it all. Came away a huge Jake E. Lee fan after that night.

    If Rhoads was never with Ozzy, this man would get all the credit Rhoads always got. To me, Jake E. Lee (isn’t that the coolest name ever?!) wrote better riffs, and equally good solos. His stage presence is unmatched. He just had the bad luck of living in Rhoads’ shadow. One of the best to ever do it in my book.

    What Jimi did to Jake is what Jake did to me. I remember being a kid at the US Festival and kind of wondering who Ozzy was going to bring on board. His guitar playing was ferocious and at the time I didn't know it but his vibrato was insane and the sound just ripped across the park like you couldn't believe. The energy was totally intense man. The videos are cool but standing in the presence of it was something else. I ended up getting a Charvel 3 years later and that neck on it is hands down my favorite. If they can 24 fret and dupe the specs of those 80's neck .... total bliss - nothing like them.

    Ozzy ragged on the Ultimate Sin album as being his worst, but ultimately I think it was a personal dig against Jake E, because his playing was incredible on that album.
    Ozzy has a history of great guitarists...and screwing them financially...George Lynch and Jake E specifically, but both moved on to be killer musicians so it was meant to be.

      Vivian just had charvel deliver his guitars for the tour look at the color codes of bothem guys guitars. Their black and red and white and red ect the half and half so if u go look at the spectrum concert ect you see warren playing same color guitar as vivian and vivian had to use the explorer shape because warren grabbed the strat body. I've never understood why Jake was fired by Ozzy. He was such a BRILLIANT guitar player and did such a tremendous job on the Bark At The Moon and The Ultimate Sin albums. He was truly the greatest guitar player that Ozzy ever had. Jake had it all, he could even compete with Eddie, when it came to sound, technique and showmanship. Ozzy has never really spoken about it, he didn't mention it in his autobiography. Sharon was probably responsible for replacing Jake with Zakk Wylde. It remains a mystery, up to this day.

I can hear myself saying to my girl "Hey babe, I'm going to Jakes and hang out. I'll be back but I'll call you ok". He talks like he's been your best buddy for a long time. Very welcoming and great charisma and honest and humble. That shy act is to mask his wild edge.

    Jake had the coolest finished Charvels at the time. He's right, everyone had graphics and they were cool. But when he "burst" on the scene with the White Charvel it was cool as hell. Then he shows up in Guitar For The Practicing Musician with the purpleburst guitar and in the "A Shot In The Dark" video with the blueburst one (I think) and those blew all the other Charvels away! Maybe I got those out of order but you get the idea. Cool guitars \m/

    The best, the most spectacular, the most creative and the coolest guitarist Ozzy ever had. But ... Ozzy never gave him credits on the songs. Plus ... Jake wrote Bark at the moon and the Ultimate Sin albums to 98%. And Ozzy knows, without a creative beast on his side ... he is just worth 2%. And Sharon , Ozzy made Jake go ... because of bullshitting on Jake.

    Skinny neck, like my old San Dimas Jackson, which it turns out, has a Charvel body on it. So I suppose they just had left over parts, and used them. The only thing about this Charvel, is that the volume knob may be tough to grab quick as the 5 way switch seems in the way right?heck it out.

    I was jamming with Steve Vai at a NAMM show years ago (headsets on in a Mesa Boogie) which was new at the time, and nobody really knew who Vai was (including myself) ...he was replacing Yngwie in a band called "Alcatrazz".... he was just a regular dude... anyway... after jamming with Vai, I was playing by myself just totally engrossed in the Mesa Boogie... and my buddy taps me on the shoulder and say's "look behind you dude"... it was Jake E. Lee, standing in a trench coat. He smiled and gave me a thumbs up. I'll never forget that. Super cool dude. The guys from Ratt were at the show, as were many others, but they all had their "entourages" and such...and their noses in the air. No issues, just pointing out that I think Jake E has always been one of the cool ones. I was never a huge fan as I was really into Rhoades at the time, but I really did like the work he did on Bark at the Moon and Shot in the Dark.... I was also a bit disillusioned because this was a time when Ozzy went ahead and cut an album with Brad Gillis (out of desperation) to continue touring after Randy's passing. I guess I'm showing my age, but anyway: Jake E Lee = cool enough dude to pay attention to a 'nobody' like me. I had been taking lessons at G.I.T at the time, and I have to say, I was likely in my prime studying with Gambale and Tedesco, but still, most of the "Rock Stars" at that time wouldn't give a fellow guitar player a nod unless he had a hot chick hangin' on his arm.... just sayin....true story BTW... totally true

      @scotto0010 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. I just got the the white one and the only thing bad about it is the 21 frets. It's still a killer guitar. His newer white one's that HE plays has 22 frets but this is historically correct from his time in the Ozzy band. Save up for it, you won't regret it.

    • @J1Z06
      @J1Z06 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know the original one was a Fender made guitar. In another interview, He’s holding a white one with different fret sizes,22 frets and it has a tone knob with a mahogany neck/ebony board. It’s probably something in my head.. I like a minimum of 22 frets. Thanks for the replies.

      Well, Charvel is asking around 2700 for his sig. guitars. You can build one with the same hardware and electronics (other than bridge but can get a brass hard tail almost just like it) for under 500 bucks. That just shows how much mark up Charvel has especially w/ signatures just like all other brands..
