Normally I laughed my butt off during your Mean Comments version of Mailbag Monday, however that opening shot at Vern pissed me the F off. You handled it way more eloquently than I could ever fathom. As someone with hearing issues, I appreciate how you do your background music. Too many people on youtube (and in movies/tv) have it to the point I can't make out the difference between what's being said/done and the music. I can't think of a mean thing to say, just wanted to let you know as someone with hearing issues, I appreciate how levels of the music is vs the rest of the audio.

Always thought you and Josh seem to be the friendliest you tubers. I hate I have missed the HSV POTA event the last two years. In my defense I found out wife was pregnant the Thursday before HSV so my priorities changed a bit. Maybe sometime in the future. These people getting worked up is crazy. Don't currently have any HF equipment due to HOA restrictions but I see how there is much enjoyment to be had by operating portable and I'm currently thinking about getting back into HF. When I am remote operating on the side of a mountain, I’m packing (in places where its legal). I’m in AZ so not usually a problem. We have had bear attacks this year and crazy people roaming in the woods. It’s not a Glock 45 Cal. It’s an H&K 40 Compact USP.

I watched that APRS video. I don't remember, though. Did you suggest any alternatives? I'm just a new ham and want to learn stuff, no judgement from me. APRS seems to be popular in my area, so that's why I'm trying to learn it. I wouldn't rely on it for rescue, though.

Actually in the UK they measure their fuel in liters but measure their distance in miles( well it was that way when I was there in 2012)!

...I can confirm with this, by the way. You were one of those who managed to get me excited about POTA. In the meantime, I have already done several activations and am also often on the hunt for activators....and it's absolutely fun! In Germany, POTA is not yet so established - but there are more and more!
By the way, I was absolutely amused by the "haters" who comment on you and send you mails. I think it's great how you deal with it - there are certainly others who do not put away so easily....

I had the pleasure of talking with you briefly at Huntsville last year. I enjoy your channel and you inspired me to start doing POTA. I guarantee 99% of the mean comments would not be said face to face. It's easy to sit behind a computer screen and say whatever you like but it's something else to face somebody. You express your opinions on your channel. I don't have to agree but it's a lack of character to respond in a hateful manner. Keep doing what you're doing and I will keep watching. Not a sad ham. Ham radio is a hobby, until SHTF lands n your door and takes out the internet and phone, then you string up an emergency antenna and you become a service for a time.

I actually like FT-8. I changed some of my settings to your thoughts and they worked out great. My Grid Tracker wasn't as useful to me as it is now since i watched your video on it. Again, I changed my settings and tried what I saw you doing and it's great. I think there is a different skill set in FT-8 usage than voice but hey, that's why we have choices. You have to laugh at some of the things people go off about. While we (you and I) may not share everything as a passion,. I do like your passion for Amateur Radio and the spirit you inspire in others. Keep it up! I remain subscribed and as a Patreon supporter of your channel. The recent name change threw me off for a second. I kinda liked K8MRD Radio Stuff but I'll get used to the new identity. I hope to work you on FT-8 someday and I'm going to get into POTA as soon as it cools a bit here in the Lone Star State.

There are haters for every subject out there and they do like to express thier opinon. Keep up the foward and open thinking. The subject matter you bring up is very good and yes I have not agreed with all you may have presented. I have to say that if I didn't agree, I didn't get mad about it and stomp my foot and wine about it. I just acknowledge we have differant opinons about stuff. Considering the things you probably should learn to be a ham, learning metric-imperial distance estimations ought to be easy.
A handful of mental shortcuts for head math that so that you don't need to be a human calculator.
Its maybe a little hard to head math the estimate of km * 0.6 = miles
But you can simplify it to make it easy.
Divide km by two, then add 10% of the km value to the result.
So 2500 km becomes 1250 + 250 or 1500 miles
Close enough estimate for conversational usage

I don't consider FT8 real ham radio either. I stopped watching one Tennessee based radio ham channel because he stopped using feet and miles.. The last time I looked., we still use imperial measurements here.

I thought "the hobby" was riding motorcycles, but didn't see anything about motorcycles in the video. Calling the Amateur Radio Service, "The Hobby" is ridiculous.
I didn't realize there was music in the background till you said something . I have been trying to get on this list . What stupid thing do I need to say to get on it. I agree with you on Religion. I think your choice in Music is for tone deaf people . Gun videos I can take them or leave them. I do own a gun. If I don't want to watch gun videos I don't watch. APRS does have a place in Amateur radio and Em-comms . I think every ham should know how to set it up and use it whether you use it day to day or not. Baofengs they are junk that need to be Outlawed . At the very least the FCC needs to crackdown on those who purchase them and use them with out a license.

The scariest guns are those that are part wood with calibers starting at around 0.30. Make nice big holes. Gewehr K98K comes to mind.
