If I knew that I could play this while in the USAF, I would've tried to stay in! Haha. Awesome guys. Yeah it's a little faster than it was intended to be, but meh, who cares? If a song sounded the same every time another group covered it, then they wouldn't be playing music...they'd just be repeating a song. I think you guys did awesome, and I would've been overjoyed to hear this being played anywhere in public. Glad to see others appreciating The Seatbelts... Oh, and thanks for serving :)
Anyone stating that the solos need to be played "right" needs to relearn the series that is Cowboy Bebop. Jazz was a huge part of the series, HUGE. They used the titles of Jazz standards as their episode titles and calling the episodes "sessions" was even a musical reference. Nevertheless, two of the most important elements in jazz (in a broad sense) is swing and improvisation. Even tweaking the heads of standards is part of jazz.
"...Bebop or bop is a style of jazz characterized by fast tempo, instrumental virtuosity and improvisation based on the combination of harmonic structure and melody..."
Often, it's just people coming to a video they did not mean to see because they thought it was something else, so they simply "dislike" it because they feel cheated.
@itomonster101 The alto solo was initially cut so that we could fit it into the set the first time we performed it... since then the cut has kinda stuck...
watch out with the dragging in the middle of the tenor solo. nice little embelishes in the soprano sax, and also very nice on the improv around the written solo. I dig it. Would have also loved to hear the bari slap tongue but not a huge issue.
I'm air force myself and a huge fan of cowboy bebop, and seeing a senior master sergeant in on this makes my day. What base are they out of? would love to meet them, been considering going guard but I'm probably going to wait till I get back from overseas before I make a decision
im sorry i didn't mean that it was random. i play jazz and i understand the structure too it but what i meant is that you cant say that one person played the solo the correct way. everyone can improvise there own melody it doesn't have to be what someone else did.
Actually jazz solos are not random or whatever you want, you must follow chords and what the others are playing, a half step in music played next to an adjacent half step sounds terrible. Improvisation just means that you play the same chord structures in a way that is not written. Of course if they were playing a solo with no one else they could take more liberty in their playing, but they would still need to follow the basic structures of jazz and music in general.
Everytime I see a cover of this song, the tempo is always too fast. The rhythm of it makes it sound frantic, but it's supposed to be real lax. It's supposed to be a light-hearted song to go with some funny antics.
Talented as all hell but you fine folks are going WAY TOO FAST for this song. Slow down, let the strength of each part punch through. That's the beauty of this song. Not how brisk it can be. Whomever decided this had to be played faster, tsk tsk.

I know people are saying this was too fast, but I honestly feel like their take on this piece was killer. They knocked it out of the ballpark!
here 11 years later and this is still look like it was uploaded to modern youtube
its that military technology bro
And here I am being told the Air Force doesn't do anything well. Nonsense.
So bad ass! See you space cowboy....
Ugh... just those words... "See you space cowboy". They fill me up with such emotion every time I see them.
You're gonna carry that weight... ;-;
"Bang"
I think they've used the original solos as a bass and improvised. They aren't playing it wrong. Improv is part and parcel
the glasses of the Tenor sax dude...
Bari-Sax clearly the youngest, and loving the groove. Well done gentlemen!!

@dodgerlives, it's quite apparent he's talking about the people who dislike this video.

0:16 from soprano sax to an instrument that can make chicken sounds.
a silver lacquered soprano, what WILL they think of next?! :O
@Progamer2003 It's hard to make a song sound just like it does in a recording, I'd say these guys get an A+!
Not bad, Air Force!
best cover aroud there

Best vid i seen today :)
Jazz musicians in uniform
2 army band members watched this vid
@Leala93 there's an annotation for how to find it.
Hnnnng, that bass line. I want to find this for brass, to transpose.

Channel Islands ANG Base, it's the 562nd Air Force Band. I know it's been 12 years since you asked but whatever haha
tempo is supposed to be quarter note = 120ish but still pretty awesome
So cool!!
Dat Air Force tho !!
ok this is fucking awsome lol
Love from Israel :)
in jazz a solo can be whatever you want it to be thats why its called "improvisation" there is not "playing it right"
This may be quartet but its still jazz. Jazz is all about improv, not playing someone else's solo.
Dude everyone in the Airforce is a major weebbbb
loved it! wonder if u could tell me where u got tha sheet music for it?
Now I wanna beat the shit out of a thief, and get the Police to pay me for it.
😍
most of it is but the solos aren't. also slightly depends how fast you take it
ALTO SOLO?!?!?!?! WERE?!?!?!?!
I want the score of this music!
the HEAD OF THE CHART IS NOT TO BEW TAMOERED WITH!
saprano player....
awesome but not my tempo 😂
Does anyone have the score to this? My quartet really wants to play it but we need a published score. Thanks!

The tenor solo was good, wat happened to the alto one though?? Great job anyway!!

Where did they get the idea to play this song?
wats the instrument farthest to the right??

But I can't really be talking.
it was to fast and the solo wasnt very good. just saying thats why you can dislike it.
