(dont quote me on it has been years since i touched in any forum or thread about this) I also remember a forum thread of a guy saying this leak would kill hl2 sales when it came out or possibly even cancel it, which is something valve was considering at the time, it was uncertain times for half life fans, and even for valve employees, imagine things you were working on for years (at the time 4 years) being showed to every single person in the internet as unfinished and broken. if you guys ever wish to see cut content of half life or any other valve game for 20 to 21 years valve has been somewhat silent and just secretive(outside of commentary inbuilt of their own games) about development stuff, just in the 25th anniversary of half life it seems that valve is more open to this. (to be frank, every company seems to be more open about development stuff on these days) but those times valve was rarely even talking about games in development outside their big games half life 2 was the most talked about obviously. as a closing thought i apologize for my ramblings its just im so fascinated by this story, how we could have lost half life 2 or even source engine. i suppose just like everyone i had a trip down memory about my nights searching about this topic, i wish i had those time back it isfascinating looking back, even more fascinating than the beta itself, was the reaction of the people.
I was also interested in the story and I read a ''funny'' detail about it. Axel, who got the files in the first place, got a call by Gabe Newell himself with Gaben pretending to being interested in hiring him at Valve and wanting to fly him out and Axel was believing all that and considered taking the offer. A day later or so he got raided by german police with one officer telling him what would've really happened if he went to the US and that he should be happy he got raided. Most likely he would've been taken into custody at the airport by some 3 letter agency and spent the rest of his life behind bars in a for him foreign country.

@@blabolik whatcha talking about? never had troubles setting it up on my old pc back in the day from a download disc. however there were some troubles with my speakers, because i always forgot to download a proper driver for them.
@@blabolik It's not hard at all to set up if you use old enough hardware that has drivers for XP (up to around Intel 4th gen and GeForce GTX 900 series, preferably a bit older)
