Guys, we are stoked to announce our new company - MX Skill Shack! We are even more excited to teach you everything we know about building dirt bikes!
This destroyed YZ125 will be a super fun build. Not only for the sake of teaching- but one of our lucky winners will be taking this transformed Yamaha two stroke home when it's complete!
As it sits. it is easily the worst dirt bike we have ever seen. No contest.... but not for long! We're ready to save this neglected turd, and we want your help naming the project as well as helping us nail down "the look".

Great video, my two cents. Make the bike perfectly bone stock. Wild 1-2-5 builds are a dime a dozen. They are always great, but when do you ever see a restoration to bring the bike back like it came off the factory floor? Never!

I done a 96 yz 125 recently and left everything minus broken stuff as I got it in parts barely running for 750 £ kept colours the lot mostly minus basic bits rattle can paint no shot lasting or powder coating all done by my own hands etc gotta keep it minimalist I think to be better than the rest paying others going for extraordinary rather than attainment for most good luck god bless I agree 🫡👌🏴
Problem with that is you have less access to parts and lower performance, for more money. OEM parts usually costs more for old bikes than aftermarket. Alot more.
This is going to be such a sick series. Can’t wait to follow this build.

i think it would be hella badass to build it into a modern style bike, new suspension off an newer year model, just go all out in it. Make it look like a factory built race bike for modern times. love the retro builds but lets go all out and make this a new, old school two smoke. throw the book at it. with you and the mad bike scientist uncle tony i could see this this thing blowing everything outta the water. stay rad !

That bikes actually not that bad, fasteners coming out easily with little rust etc. It's mostly cosmetic.

Man I'm Pumped, I'm definitely gonna catch you guy's over there, I seriously need a new bike brother, I miss the hell out of my old 450, I'm an open book so I was an addict for year's and got rid of mine when I was in some dark day's and have been clean now going on 5 year's and seriously miss riding so much, all I do now is sit around like a damn hermit staying clean but seriously need to take my mind off of things and enjoy the road and dirt again, hopefully I can win... *Great Video as usual Guy's* 💯🇺🇸🇺🇸💯
Man I'm in a similar situation but I bought a cheap roached bike and and have it all torn apart cleaning everything up before I put it back together. Once it's in your blood it don't leave. Braaaaap!! Good luck man
Bro, it sounds like the perfect outlet for you! Congratulations on five years. Next up, 10. For me, Moto is hands-down, the best exercise there is. Try to go to the gym every morning, but still nothing compares to hitting the track.
@@mxrevival Thanks man really appreciate it, as you know it's a daily struggle with the devil (So to Speak) and like you said there's NOTHING like hitting the trails or road on that bike, I try the gym sometimes but as you know it's after and that down time that's hard for me some day's, anyway appreciate the support and response and have a great thanksgiving man, you and the whole MX family.. 💯
Definitely need to be a resto mod, new suspension brakes, and FUEL INJECTION!! hopefully in ten years someone will look at it and see what you guys built as a marker in history.

There’s got to be a way. I’ve seen videos of fuel injected turbo Briggs and Strattons.

First off , happy thanksgiving. Stoked for MXSS to kick off. 💪. I think keep it period correct but with a twist of a modern touch. If that’s even a thing 🤨. When I built my 97 Yz 125 , I had a hell of a time buying “newer “ parts for it. I couldn’t update it basically. Had stay at that 96-97 year range. Looking forward to the rest of the build !

In 1969 I watched from our station wagon as my dad road his new Ossa home..in 1980 he gave it to me..if you put a hot plug in it and pushed it for twenty minutes,it would run..it was glued and wired and welded…I just saw it ,the guy I gave it to rebuilt the piece of crap..he spent,five grand fixing it

The collab sounds great, no doubt us plebs will learn a lot from you guys. I have over the past couple years. Im throwin in a potential candidate for a the name, at first i was thinking crabs, cause damn! Since I'm an aussie, I've never heard of him or the team.....I just googled "1997 YZeeeee" and that bike popped up...lol.
I also love the euro and aussie spec white/red YZ's we got from the 80's.

If you can source the correct dark blue plastics i think a factory 97 yz125 look would be sweet. They werent as flashy as the YOT bikes but were still very clean looking. Could do a john dowd replica. If not you could go for more of an early 90s look with the white frame and retro style graphics with the purple and pink colors. Mimicking the 2024 retro yzs. I think people would be stoked on that. Plus you can get away with doing more trick looking parts rather than beeing tied to doing a replica from that era that dokt get me wrong were very trick but didnt really look it back then. All the works parts were made to look as close to oem as possible in that era.

I think the stock 1996 look is the best look of this era and would be a cool direction for the build. Maybe some gold rims...

I bought a brand new 97 yz 250 in 97.it was the darker blue but side plates and front plate as well as front fender was white. Don't remember the graphics much cuz I replaced them soon as I got it home. In 98 I updated all plastic to the new blue. Great bike. Still riding yz 250 today
Can’t argue with a classic! I wasn’t sure if 98 or 97 was the last year of the dark blue, so thanks for clarifying. I like them both, so it will just come down to what we can get nowadays I guess for plastics
1997 was the last of the dark blue. It actually came with a dark blue front fender, dark blue shrouds/tank, white side-plates, & white rear fender. 1998 lighter blue color looked way better.

@shawntblin5423 it was a long time ago but I'm pretty sure front fender was white. Could be wrong tho. Cuz like I said I was constantly changing to up date. I was what you call a support rider on a team. Not fully sponsored but got all the kick back of the team. They were all on new bikes every year and I just kept updating my 97 up to like 99
@shawntblin5423 You are absolutely correct Sir. Like I said the minute I got it home new graphics that included rear fender and front and all. Front fender graphics was white on the team and back was blue. Just looked in same old pic's
@@s.w.e.racing3704 Yeah, the 1996 had a white front fender. You could have certainly put a white one on the front of your 1997 to change it up a little.
In the process of a 03 yz125r rebuild. It was roached but not that roached lol looks like about the same year model bike I think. And I thought I was in for a long project! I'm doin it a little at a time. I need help getting my clutch side back together, if I get beat by it when I try.
Nice! You can do it man, slow and steady wins. The race is always a good thing when you’re doing a build you really really care about.
Anyway this is the average motorcycle that I have to restore every time but not the worst.
I expected much worse, we got pretty lucky
@@mxrevival it will be a beautiful bike. These Japanese bikes have half the parts compared to the Aprilias that I currently restore and you will always find spare parts. Shame I'm so far from you, it would be funny work together.

We really wish we could find some lowers as well, but back then I don’t remember them actually being a thing! We all had the sweet Applied upper triple clamp on our bikes…. 😍

Thoses old plastics does not look good. Its not old enough to be vintage or nostalgic. I would go with white 2024 yz 125 and 450 front fender/ numberplates and the 30th anniversary white, blue, purple pink theme. thoses colors are rare. Would make a nice powdercoat color combo.
I was telling Tony that the 2024 front end is so round again, that it might actually look good with the rest of the 97 body now

Great video. Good luck with that, the results will be great. Last year I bought a RM 125 1985 in that condition. I am rebuilding it but everyone tells me that if I put it on the track it will break because of the iron frame. Is this true?
We’re super excited to transform this one for ya 🙌 dudes we’re doing super gnarly stuff on the 1985 RM 125, no need to worry! Just inspect your frame and make sure you don’t have any cracks and you should be good to go
