Check continuity between the stator plate, cylinder head and coil mounting bolt. If you don't have ground continuity between all 3 you'll have no spark. Given that youve tried swapping in all the replacement parts, my theory is that the only ground between the engine and the frame was through the cylinder head mount to the frame. When they pulled the mount doing the top end, they broke the last ground between the engine and the frame and thus the coil.
Don't be discouraged, there's probably people watching that are having the same issue with there bike and by watching your video your showing people all the things that it could be that maybe they didn't think of checking, thank you for the great content and videos, keep them comming 🙂
I would most likely look into the wiring. For the year that it is it could have a broke wire from the inside and it can’t be seen. You may have to get a better multimeter and test the wiring and see if you have a open contact somewhere in the harness
Hey man if you don’t have a power probe you definitely need to get one , you can send ground or voltage where you need it , good luck brother I know you’ll get it
I’m in the process of rebuilding a yz125 and lemme tell you either the person who rode that bike is a god who never crashed or rubbed boots on the frame, it’s the most durable paint in the world, or it’s been repainted/rebuilt at some point
Bro, i had a 95 xr600r that ran perfect when i bought it, and the next day it would not start. Worked on it for a week, then took it to a shop, and they couldnt figure it out either. What finally fixed it was replacing ALL the wiring front to back. Sometimes you just have to go for broke and replace old wiring!
Brother you have lost conductivity between the stator to the case to the cylinder to the frame. I had one not long ago so a similar thing after the cases were painted. Good luck she deserves to have second life
Sup man love your videos, noticed you have a thing for big bikes. Anyways I finally had the balls to ride my dads atk 406 2 stroke, scared the f@@k out of me 😂
Found a 125 Hodka combat wombat in the metal pile at the dump. Someone took it spart as i was dumping my load i saw the roller (frame wheels forks handlebars with 3 older snow mobile's on top of it. Sleds were so heavy.I asked a employee to give me a hand. He was pretty negative about. Dude im on a mission.15-20 min later. Found everything but air box boot.all it needed was crank bearings. Sadly. Some asshole who used to be a friend stole it from my garage.
I had the same problem with a kx250 and did the same as you and couldn't get it to go had a mechanic look at it and couldn't get it to spark I hope you get it. To go
Check out motorsports n buggies ch ,he’s just started up three ch ,some real nice cr ,s ,125*250*500,and a surprise hens tooth bike ,and some nice cars from the pre 2000 ,s
My advise as working on cars 40 years. I see you trying parts but you’re not diagnosing the problem with the electrical. I would test the stator, coil, CDI, all wires to make sure they work and this where you will find your problem without wasting all that time on trying so many different parts. Check the grounds first always when it comes to electrical
You can use a lawnmower coil if you want, I used one from a Kawersaki lawnmower for a Triumph Thunderbird, that was 6 years ago and its still working awesomely 👌 😅 oh yeah my 85 Honda had the different year crank sensor, and it was supposed to have an offset type, I have no idea how that works when it must have been 20° different, and all the rest of the motor crankcase wise, looked the same.
Thats not a standard muffler, and looks totally blocked, being for a 4stroke, from Amazon, and thats one thing that's going to make it run terrible anyways 🙄.
All good working parts magically quit working when bolted on this bike? Electricity can be a fickle bitch. CR250r ignitions will bolt on as well. Raise the rev limiter and rev faster. I used a 91 250 ignition for a bit on mine
Duuuude you will get it figured out! You laugh at some point realizing what it is. There may be a difference between cdi for earlier models due to amperage
Dude quit complaining you know what you were buying so who cares if it starts you also claimed you were going to rebuild it restore it and don't talk to the 500 that way respect your elders (The CR500 demands RESPECT AND IF AND WHEN YOU DON'T YOU SOON WILL UNDERSTAND)
This video is way more interesting because it’s challenging for you. We’ve all been there and it is comforting knowing that even a mechanic as good as you goes through the same sh!t once in a while!
Long time subscriber, i would love to oen that mumber numebr plate with your signature on it Lund! I love uour content. Literally the eacvtly content I'm in to. Your the man! 🤘 Please don't ever stop making these 🔥 videos!
It’s a ground loop issue.just replace all of the electrical system with good quality stuff. If you have one that runs, use all of it and kill switch. Then when it has spark, change one part at a time to find what is bad. This way it doesn’t cost you alot of money just time. Good luck brother
Expectations with old bikes can be killer! I just bought a too-good-to-be-true 1988 RM250 that violently pops in and out of 2nd gear. Keeps it interesting at least.
Check continuity across the spark plug wire and every other wire involved with ignition system. Could be a wire broken internally, which would explain the bike suddenly not running after the rebuild. I've seen this in my field of work. It's a lot harder to diagnose when the wires are buried in the ground lol
If you've tried known working (and compatible) components it's probably in the wiring. Obviously ground is a good place to look but I think that's unlikely since you've swapped components so much. Make sure the connectors aren't stretched open too far. This could result in testing fine but not actually making contact. And verify spark plug boot isn't out of resistance value spec. I assumed one was good and pulled my hair out. Coincidentally my meter was giving bad readings and I had done the same thing basically. Swapped out literally every part except the spark plug boot. Parts store happened to be out or I would have replaced that when I replaced coil. Which was my first guess
Cool! It also makes you wonder, just how many cool, classic bikes were just taken to the dump, landfill, metal recyclers etc say between 2000 and 2020. Way too many I would think. So good another one is saved. LOL! 🤣🤣🤣 Chupacabra sighting!!!
Try kicking it with the kicker. Ive tried spinning my 500 with a drill and for some reason you couldnt see spark but kicking it with a kicker itd spark. Cant explain it. Just figured id toss it out there for something to try.
85, or 86, 85 had issues with the ignition, hate to say it, buy all lectric components, not that much, that should get you going. Ebay is your friend. 😎👍
I was going to say kill switch but I see its unplugged! Just be happy you get to work on and own a stable of big bore 500's! I'd love to find a deal on just one of them!
Would it not be worth checking the kill switch cable itself isn't shorted? I know next to nothing about vehicle electrics but would check that given there's no other obvious problem.
"This dirt bike was thrown away in the trash.............in 2019..............then some guy grabbed it up..............and finally it was just sold to me for $1500" That title would have been a bit wordy, so I understand not using it.😉
This sounds crazy but put the cdi unit in the oven at 250 degrees with the door cracked for about an hour. Put the unit close to the door. Cdis wwill fail from slight moistire. Not really any parts to just burn out. Moisture is a demon.
So sad that you can't use proper timing terminology on TH-cam Without fear of being demonetized. This is what happens when computer AI take over.... so sad.
well I kinda stole it and had to dump it , turns out I stole it from a state Tropper, I know what luck, but it was used when he got it didnt have vin number and couldn't report it also my luck after you got it ,this is joke , well im politician in training , maybe its just a lie, prove it then ! lol
Hey just so you know they sell these things called lights at Like Home Depot and Lowe's so you can like properly light up your Workshop because we can't see s***
Yeah why can't you just be honest about it, it says tons about your character, perhaps more people would subscribe I know that I didn't just because of that.
So you didn’t get it out of the dump.. You bought it… Just be honest and don’t click bait
Lighten up Francis. Was headed to the dump when the previous owner got it. Does it really bother u enough to leave a douchie comment?
Exactly
😂
Clickbait is so annoying, the content draws us without the sensationalism
Tell him!!! We don't need click bait...
My day's brighter just knowing some deserving '85 CR500 found the right guy to look after her. Can't wait to see her done. Happy holidays.

Problems like this are killers , but forgotten about a week after it's sorted character building. Top video

The later clutches have another clutch plate too. Which is an awesome upgrade
We had Magnesium on our 70's Motocross bikes too...pretty common back then...i raced against those 85 500's. on my 490 Why Zee
🇨🇦🤓👍
I’ve heard of slip ON mufflers. Now I’ve seen slip OFF mufflers.
What a Beautiful find, you guys will figure it out!!!
, SENSOR ABOVE THE FLYWHEEL . DID YOU TRY THAT ? I CALL IT A PICKUP COIL . GREAT STUFF !
I’m in the process of rebuilding a yz125 and lemme tell you either the person who rode that bike is a god who never crashed or rubbed boots on the frame, it’s the most durable paint in the world, or it’s been repainted/rebuilt at some point
"daylight wastings" :) Thanks Clint!

Where the finishing of this video or part 2? I looked through the videos but don’t see it.
you have become a cr500 guru. I have been looking forever and they either want 4k not running and in 10 peices or in rideable condition for 8k
There must be alot of barn find old 2T's on the west coast. We don't find alot of those bikes here in the southeast
Same pro circuit pipe as i have on my 85 Cr 500!
Brother you have lost conductivity between the stator to the case to the cylinder to the frame. I had one not long ago so a similar thing after the cases were painted. Good luck she deserves to have second life
That's cool your in Reno now. I'm over in quincy
Did you clean the contact surface of the stator?,clean all ground surfaces & have the Chupacabra "bless" it.
Standard "it ran before it didn't run" story. Looking forward to seeing this beauty running again.
Flywheel lost its magnetism..
Sup man love your videos, noticed you have a thing for big bikes. Anyways I finally had the balls to ride my dads atk 406 2 stroke, scared the f@@k out of me 😂

Ground is rusted, , clean it kick it, blow a smoke ring, with a ping merry Christmas to you and your family.!
That is a lighting stator, to add lights.
Try changing the wire harness you might have a broken wire somewhere
I had the same problem with a kx250 and did the same as you and couldn't get it to go had a mechanic look at it and couldn't get it to spark I hope you get it. To go
I’ve literally gotten bikes for free from my town’s recycling center since they know I love to rebuild old bikes
That is awesome!
@@keithtarrier4558 the crazy thing is that most of the bikes I get through them only need new batteries and the carbs cleaned
Maybe a ground point is missing from the frame
It's that one thing. I have had the same problem!
Check out motorsports n buggies ch ,he’s just started up three ch ,some real nice cr ,s ,125*250*500,and a surprise hens tooth bike ,and some nice cars from the pre 2000 ,s
Try disconnecting the kill switch it got oil in it?
My advise as working on cars 40 years. I see you trying parts but you’re not diagnosing the problem with the electrical. It can only be 1 of 2 things. A bad wire in the harness or your not grounded. That's it.
Strip the lume and separate all the wiring
Coil looks like a China gy6 scooter one
Kill switch ?
MY grandpa took me to his storage and he showed me full cr80r 1982 in boxes im brobably gonna rebuild it
Make sure the vin is clean and the frame is straight an free of cracks before diving in too far
Good advice for most people.
But I am sure Clint knows this, he has been around the block a few time with dirt bikes.

That is a scooter coil or i don't know but i have a scooter and that is on it and it is factory
All good working parts magically quit working when bolted on this bike? Electricity can be a fickle bitch. CR250r ignitions will bolt on as well. Raise the rev limiter and rev faster. I used a 91 250 ignition for a bit on mine
Try spinning the engine the opposite say of normal I had a problem we’re 2 wires were backwards
Spark plug boot/cable….
We don't need click bait..
Try disconnecting the kill switch
So it was not saved From the scrap yard. the guy knew it had value
👍
Or has a bad ground somewhere on the frame
Duuuude you will get it figured out! You laugh at some point realizing what it is. There may be a difference between cdi for earlier models due to amperage
The bright light behind you is destroying picture quality In the garage. Can't see anything you're doing.
Its a medifor. Not clockbait,
My 86 CR500hates ngk champion only
So we paid $1500 to get it out of the trash
You got screwed water cooled sucks
Kill switch Lund??
13:37 "Suckin and blowin good"
You talk to much. I cant watch this. 2vintage is better and shows more.
It's not reguarded... its intellectually disabled.
I restore old scooters that's a GY6 Chinese piece of s***ignition coil
your 51?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just go to the point instead of blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah ……
Rubbish
you still give me a chuckle every time you say "the shop garage whatever'
Dude how the hell you finding these
He "big bore" force is strong within Clint.
Check the flywheel for a broken key way or fly wheel has a weak magnetism . Or crank shaft is broken.
Gonna name that year one( water cooled) grampa crusty?
If Santa had a bike it’d be a cr500 🔥 merry Christmas lundmx keep up the good work
This video is way more interesting because it’s challenging for you. We’ve all been there and it is comforting knowing that even a mechanic as good as you goes through the same sh!t once in a while!
Check the flux capacitor connections.
Indeed.. because where this 500 is going, it won't need roads!

85 500 yes loved those bikes and 250 heck yeah happy holidays I brought an used 2017 kx450f Kawasaki
What did you pay for the 450? And what area?
I was going to say kill switch but I see its unplugged! Just be happy you get to work on and own a stable of big bore 500's! I'd love to find a deal on just one of them!

1500 was way too much they should have paid you but you obviously are an amateur at this purchasing and rebuilding and😅 restoring
G’Day mate, try the kill switch. Honda’s are rekniown for issues with faulty kill switches?
Cheers Kev
Im gonna call bull Schitt . No one would throw away a CR 500 and even if the did
someone would grab it before it landed in the dump.
My money would be on a wiring issue can't tell u how many times I've found broken wires inside of the sleeve that wasn't visible to the eye at first
Why would anybody, in the world throw away a Honda motorcycle. Something had to be wrong with them. Or it was left at rental home.
Another 2 VINTAGE just throw parts at it and why would you lie about where you got the bike
I haven’t heard you mention the rotor /magneto . If it’s got a crappy magnet u r screwed no matter what
Broken wire to or from the cdi/ coil online the bikes loom, hi from UK, you need to test all of them, d
Dude quit rambling with nonsense you're going to lose me if you keep that up
