Thank you so much! I was struggling so hard understanding how to make a pattern. Couldn't find any premade ones online for free and this video is EXACTLY what I needed!
Hi! it was so clear and easy to follow....thank you so much. My question is about using this for a seamless repeat....I made my honeycomb pattern successfully and saved it in "Define Pattern". I then wanted to create a new pattern for fabric using this as a background and adding in some of my watercolor flowers and honeybees on a new layer on top, but the edges of the bounding box in the view pattern mode weren't "even" with the overall pattern....what did I do wrong? Can I resize the whole things so it's a seamless repeat somehow?
you want to make sure you are working with the dimensions of your saved pattern swatch. It won't be seamless in a square ratio. If you hover over the pattern in the patterns panel you can see what dimension size it is. (if you don't see this it might be a feature you have to turn on). I would take that dimension value increase the width/height so you can get multiple repeats and create a new document. Add the pattern layer and then add your additional elements. In this case you can turn on the pattern preview mode (view - pattern preview) to help create your repeat.
If I want to create a multi color pattern I will usually create a black and white version and then merge/ rasterize the layer. From there use the magic wand tool to select the areas you want to color, choose your color and then fill it with your foreground color (opt + delete - Mac, alt + backspace -windows). Repeat this step to create your random color pattern. Hope that helps
02:40 I cannot get the top two hexagons to line up perfectly with the bottom 3. How do I get it to show all those gridlines? I have snap, layer edges and smart guide on as instructed.
Sorry you are having a hard time. After you made your selection with the marquee tool and went to edit > define pattern in didn't show in the patterns window? You could always crop it first. After you have selected the area with the marquee tool go to image > crop and then go to edit > define pattern. Sometimes I have run into the issue where it won't save the pattern just from the selection, but if I crop it down it will.
@@LemonPaperLab Oh! I forgot to add, I added the pattern already but the problem is it doesn't change the color :( In my case, I can only see the solid color even tapping the clipping mask.
@@dashiellsarmiento6966 You need to save the first part of the pattern with a transperant background. If it is white it will not change and the mask will not work.
Perfect tutorial. Perfect pace, no wasted time, you showed every step. It was all perfect! Thank you!

@@LemonPaperLab Thank you for taking the time to reply! I'll try this.
Thanks for this easy tutorial! Is there a way to add additional colors in the honeycombs so they appear randomly colored as a seamless repeat?

thankyou 😍🤩
how to make transparent?
Hello! I've tried it but I have a problem, when I tap the clipping mask, the honeycomb pattern doesn't appear :(

mine make stars instead of honeycombs
Set Star Ratio to 100%
