    Edit: See my new tutorial about OFFSET FILTER which makes creating repeat patterns easier: th-cam.com/video/hWcHb-cjZgk/w-d-xo.html
    Hey everybody! Thank you so much for the new views and comments on this video. I'm so happy to hear this tutorial has helped you to create awesome repeating patterns of your own. When I made this video two years ago I never thought it would get 17K views. Thank you.
    With 17K views there's also 17K levels of Photoshop skills. Everyone who has ever attended a computer course knows that teaching such courses is not EASY: All the attendees are in different levels. There's the people who could be teachers themselves and then there's people who are opening the programme for the first time. That said: This video is NOT THE BEST for the Photoshop beginners. That's why I added ADVANCED PS to the title.
    Virtual hugs to everyone. Stay well, Elli

      Thank you Chris for the comment. That's a good idea. I will definitely keep that on mind: making a tutorial on how I created a certain pattern from start to finish. Not only the pattern making tools (tiling) but everything involved in it. On the meanwhile did you notice the offset -tutorial? -> th-cam.com/video/hWcHb-cjZgk/w-d-xo.html - It makes the tiling a lot easier. Thanks.

      Serene Illustrations oh I’m so happy to hear that. Thanks for the video ideas. Do you have some specific topic/question in mind for photoshop? Maybe I could show how to make GIFs. Would that be interesting? And thanks on the hair compliment :) I wanted a buzzcut already a long time and finally did it two weeks ago. I’ve loved it so far. It’s perfect length for the summer ☀️ I’m sure you could rock it too 😎

    • @sereneillustrations8060
      @sereneillustrations8060 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think if having it written out would be helpful too because sometimes it takes time for me to follow the steps. This way people won't have to pause every few seconds or keep re-watching the same GIF over and over again. For me personally, I struggle with making shapes and vectors on photoshop. I feel like it takes soooo long just to do something simple. I'd love to see what hacks you have to do it! It seems like you can do it really quickly

    • @ellimaanpaa
      @ellimaanpaa  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean the cat faces etc? I actually did them in Adobe Illustrator which is a vector based programme. I never used Photoshop for that even though I've seen others do amazing vector stuff with Photoshop. I use Photoshop only on the pixel world.
      I'm bit concerned of doing very full on Adobe tutorials since there is way more technically skilful people out here in TH-cam doing them. I've mostly learned Photoshop and Illustrator on my own trying out different things so I work very intuitively. That's why it's hard to make to list: first do this, then this, then this. It's more like - what if try this - oh it works. Yey!
      So maybe I should stay on the more creative side of influencers. 🤔 But maybe to follow up this pattern video I could show how I would make tee print in Adobe illustrator? How I mould shapes and vector there. I try to pin down with words the tools that are most important. And maybe at some point I could show how to make a simple GIF animation in Photoshop, since animation is the field of my studies right now.

    How did you get each quarter of the design into separate layers after clicking snap? Nothing happens when I do it, it stays as one single image, so I must have missed something! Many thanks, much appreciated.

    • @ellimaanpaa
      @ellimaanpaa  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Claudia Myatt Thank you Claudia for the question. I hope I understood it right and I’m going to try to explain what I did at that point: I used the Rectangular marquee tool (the 2nd from top in the left panel menu) for selecting one quarter at a time. After the selection is active Right mouse click > from the drop down menu > Layer via copy. I repeated the step for each quarter at a time. - But there’s also another way of doing this crucial step without separating the quarters in individual layers: 1st) Count the pixels of your canvas. 2nd) Divide them in two 3rd) Go to Filters > Other > Offset > Type the numbers 3rd) It’s done. I’m planning to do another video about that technique at some point. Let me know if I was able to answer your question. Best of luck with your pattern.

      Yes! Thanks for the comment Blank White Screen. I was just about to mention the video I made about the colors: th-cam.com/video/5D--i8iN51M/w-d-xo.html - You guessed it right: I usually work with colour palettes. Either ready made ones or I make my own from photographs since nature always knows how to match colors. You'll find all the info from that video. And thank you again on the compliment. • @ellimaanpaa

      Thanks for the good question Ellen.The Cat Pattern (where I did the elements in AI) I could have composed as well in Illustrator. So Photoshop was just my preference since I have more experience with it. The other two were born in Photoshop : Either by painting or layer styles that only work in raster based programmes like Photoshop. I'm planning to do a tutorial on pattern design with Illustrator later as well.

      Shauni White thank you for the question. You need to keep the background in a separate layer from the pattern illustrations. Don`t merge all the layers (flatten) together. Only the layers where you have the pattern illustrations. Hope you found a way.

    i download pattern and in photoshop when i apply to object, it get lines resiud and not seamless

    • @ellimaanpaa
      @ellimaanpaa  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then the pattern is not seamless: there's at least one pixel cap in your pattern. If you did it with the method I showed in this video maybe your selection tool had some feather on? Remember to keep that at zero. You can also try the Offset method which I explain on this other video: th-cam.com/video/hWcHb-cjZgk/w-d-xo.html . Hope this helps.

    I think this tutorial is too fast for beginners. I hope u can make video tutorial that r more obvious and detailed

      Thank you for the comment and feedback Antonia. I apologize for your frustration. I agree that this tutorial is not for the beginners with Photoshop. Photoshop is such a vast programme. I added now to the video title "Advanced PS" so that it wouldn't be misleading. Thank you for your understanding.

      Hi Roxanne. Thanks for the comment. What part is too fast? You can always pause the video to mark down of the tools used.

    • @roxannetamberen2140
      @roxannetamberen2140 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for the reply, but pausing it would not be a remedy, because, what's happening, is, you're talking while you're showing what you're doing, but you're not really saying what you're doing, you're just talking about what you are doing in general, and the speed of the video is fast. I'd say take a look from 3:00 on. It's, as if you're assuming we know what you're doing already. . Maybe someone else can describe it better than me. Anyway, thank you for the video, I'll try slowing it down.
