The dress looks v pretty with the nice floral fabric & ties on the back. Great design idea & it worked on this occasion, but this isn't the right way to lengthen that shape of dress. That's why your seams were all askew when you got back round to the start. (This lengthening method is designed for the gathered type of skirt you were wearing in some shots before cutting it up to use the fabric). Each shape of skirt needs an addition of the same shape to make them longer- a circle skirt needs a circle/hoop, an A-line needs an A/triangular shaped extension. Basically, the easy way to lengthen any dress/skirt without ruining the fall of it is to extend each panel (whether it's just 1 circle, or 1 front/2back pieces on a pencil skirt, or in your case multiple panels, or even 8 or 16 gores in a full skirt) You just extend those individual panels at the bottom, sew them back together at the sides & then take up a new hem at the end to level it. Best of luck with your next project :)
Thank you so much for adding your input this is really helpful. I would do a circle but I just did not have enough fabric for this project. I just used what I have in hand. :)
Yes I definitely do and how are you you make me want to go in my closet and redo my whole wardrobe I have so many clothing and I've lost so much weight it's been 13 years and I kept it off so I want to alter my clothing I don't want to buy a new clothing so I'm definitely going to work on that and keep falling you as well it wonderful teacher thanks again also I have a long beautiful dress I cut the dress but I didn't cut it even what can I do to put the length back that I need
Well, just used the fabric you cut off and sew it back on. You can use the same method I showed on this tutorial. You may have to make a long strip of fabric out of that material and gather it depending on the shape of your dress. Remember always measure twice, cut once!
Hi thank you so much for that video I've been with you for a while now I'm having a problem with address that I had cut myself and I didn't cut it even and I can't figure out how to even it out so that I can add length to it same thing that you had just done with your dress will you help me please thank you and I wish you and your family will
I have a lovely circle skirt with a rose pattern and the backside of te waistband is elesticated. It makes me look like a lampshade because I have a short waist. I want to turn it into an "A" line skirt but it will be too short. Do you have any suggestions?
You can take it in on both side seams. Baste stitch it first just to make sure like the shape. If is too short add a complimenting fabric just like I did here or check the hemlines and see if you have enough fabric, usually some garments have at least 2 inches allowance to allow you to costumise the length.
HELP! What if my dress isn't a plain color like all black or all white or something like that where I could just add the same color fabric underneath. My dress is made out of polyster and the background of the dress is a darkish blue with white, dark pink, and light pink flowers. Please help I really need to make this dress longer before Sunday! Thank youuu
You can use any color from your main fabric it will compliment it. Use a similar type of plain fabric in your case polyester. So the fabric or dress will still flow! :)
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! I ended up adding a piece of white fabric and it looked beautiful! Sorry I took long to reply btw was extremely busy. But thank you so much! :)
by adding a tie knot of the same material at the back, it blends in very well with the extended skirt.
What a difference and so charming !!!
Thank you I love using this method and you can really be creative and unique.
That looks great! I like how you added the ribbon to the back too!
Thank you I love that detail too it kind of made the dress cohesive. :)

What kind of sewing machine do you have? May I know the brand please?
It is JUKI Exceed HZL F600go.magik.ly/ml/6div/
Its possible for sides cut dresses
You will have to close the slip first, then add the fabric extension.
