Hi everyone! Thank you for your feedback, I apologize it's hard to hear my voice! I have added subtitles to this video, you do need to click the "cc" button below the video to turn it on. My video I made after this one doesn't have the music in the background during the tutorial, yay! I'm always looking for ways to make my videos better since I had zero experience with editing until launching this channel 5 months ago. So I appreciate your input and take every advice into consideration.

Hello, love your transformations. I had a question for you. When you were talking about the lengths of the stitches, were you basting when using stitch length 5?

I love this! Oversized grandma dresses are sometimes the cutest things I see at the thrift store, I think I'll try this so I can actually wear it

Next time there's a hemline used for waistband, try unpicking the hem. There's generally a fair amount of fabric there that would have allowed you to sew a tube had it been let out, rather than having the tie vary so much in thickness and weight across its width.
Seamripping can be a pain but it's also sometimes worthwhile

Adorable! I love your refashions especially because you keep them modest! Thank you!

Adventures A.Waits Thank you so much! It's harder to refashion modest clothes since it limits so much options and requires more fabric. So I appreciate your observation!

Wow! So very cute, and you broke the steps down so well for a beginner. I’ve been wanting to do this very badly, I literally have dresses waiting.
    Thank you for inspiring me!

Great demo @ 1:36 on how to gather into ruffle by hand. Sew a basting stitch "Stitch Length 5", grab one of the threads and slide the material like a curtain.

Thanks for this video! I really liked how you paused and explained where things could go wrong accidentally (like the bottom of the dress being shorter than the top when sewing them back together). Thanks again!

The way you were able to fit this large dress to your small shape really taught me a lot. Thank you for showing us beginning/intermediate sewers exactly how to do some of the steps that are sometimes confusing. I am so so cute!

I think you did fantastic! I'm onto this thrift modifying. When you know how to reconstruct it opens all kinds of possibilities; brand names, cheap fabric for other uses. Enjoyed your video very much!

Great job. The dress looks very beautiful on you now. I have used lace on the hem to add more weight to the bottom of the skirt; and, light yellow, white, or cream colored lace will make the hem look better when it might be seen.

The way you did it step by step, made me realize that I can return to this and learn step by step...I have purchase a number of items that are too large for me, BUT, I really like the fabric and styles and NOW I feel I will be able to eventually make wonderful creations...!!! Thank you. Sherry :)

You are so so so talented Sarah! I know you are very used to doing this and comfortable with it all...BUT trust me, when I say that you are a wonder! What if you actually lived close to me and could teach me 'one on one'? 'I can dream can't I?'....You see, I actually learn better when someone is there with me and I can watch them and then they can watch me doing the project. Well, at least I have this video on youtube to watch again and again. Thanks and have a great Sunday and upcoming week too! Sherry :)

i love this video. if i had more time i'd do more refashions. i'm a 4th gen sewist but my predecessors are way more versatile in the art then i am so i stay inside the lines, so to speak, and i've found i get just as much enjoyment out of refashioning/repurposing thrifted/old clothing then starting a project from scratch. it's mostly because i work but also because i don't have very much patience and i prefer a more instant gratification with a 4hr refashion then a 4day from scratch project!
thank you. i agree with some of the other posts. i'd prefer to hear your commentary than the music. although music for those instances where you are modeling the before and after are okay.
    you're inspirational :)

  • @semperfidelis2970
    @semperfidelis2970 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello!. I am so pleased with your tutorial. I was going to suggest speaking louder and/ or removing the music, but I see you've already got that under control judging by your own comment. You do an excellent job of explaining and showing and I appreciate that your clothes are very fashionable yet not revealing. You've done a great job, and I will be watching your videos to see what else I can learn from you. Well done!

  • @angelajester3453

What a cute redo :) If I could offer a little advice, you should finish your trimmed edges so they don't fray which can make your seams come loose. You can do this with pinking shears as you trim the excess, a zigzag or overcast stitch on your machine after trimming or with a serger, if you have one.

I love watching your thrift store re tailors! you are fantastic at making things easy to follow, and at making your talent for sewing look natural. I have a REQUEST. I find that there is a serious lack in women's longer shorts. I have seen a lot of cute ones online, but never in stores. I always see men's shorts at the thrift store, some are even made out of fantastic lightweight, breathable material. How could I alter these thrift finds into feminine bermuda or ladies trousers style shorts. I would love a tutorial.

Just found your channel, Sarah - I'm so inspired already! My mother recently passed away, and while I can donate most of her clothes, some of them are too hard to part with - but they are either too big or too old-fashioned to be functional for me. I'm starting to see possibility here! Do you have any tips or can you make a video soon about sewing silky polyester knits? I'm a little afraid of those!
