For anyone who sees this a few years after publication, I looked into the Colebar Hammer, and yes, almost 2 and a half years since this video, it is STILL getting updates from the founder that it is in development, with the last update coming in early June 2022 as of this post. That is nearly 9 years of time just for research and development basically and he hasn't given up, with the abuse of their angry backers getting even worse. That is crazy.

And most of all I feel like there was a genuine passion to make a new and interesting metroidvania that feels like the symphony of the night and Dracula x games from back in the day. So I wouldn't say it was a scam but I feel like there was alot of poor design decisions in a some parts of the game

i have 27 backed projects and 26 of them have made it to me. the only one never to come was the evil dead 2 board game (lost $375) but another company picked up the project and is giving all original backers the game for free.

A friend of mine, way before Kickstarter, pre-ordered a sequel to a game that he liked. Every few months, he'd get an email from the developer, talking about how the game was still in development. And we'd tease him about how he could possibly be so gullible to have pre-ordered something that was literally called "The Fool and His Money," and he would retort that he'd gotten way more than his money's worth telling the story. We were all quite shocked when one day, something like a decade after the pre-order, a copy of the game actually showed up, and it was actually a decent playable game.
I tried them and loved them, except for their gigantic ear-destroying ear tips. I tried with all sorts of different tips and adjusting the headphones, but I just couldn't wear them for more than an hour at a time. Absolutely LOVING my MOMENTUM 3s though
@@DingleFlop yeah nura-phone's sound great, and I love the absolutely stinky bass for getting pumped for a workout. But I can't wear them for more than 30 minutes before my ears hurt. They are so heavy and uncomfortable.
@@martinshoosterman If you're referring to Alan Becker, I assure you he had no fault in what happened. He wasn't even the one who was handling the money. Alan was just helping the ones in charge of creating the board game. I'm not confident I can explain what happened well so if you want to know more, you can go and check the updates section of the Kickstarter page of Animator vs Animation, The Official card Game. There you will find a link to a forum post that explains what happened. In the end, we did still get a print-and-play version of the game, but it's money I can't get back anymore.
I am still waiting for my Slide and I don't even have curtains in my apartment anymore. They are actually shipping for a few months now, but just to the Netherlands and I don't live there anymore. Also Scale is still under development after 7 years, they've sent me a beta and I am in their Discord, but it is taking quite long. But the developer actually does say things on Discord now and then.
hollow knight also started as a kickstarter, it got delayed a bit but it is absolutely amazing. They are even making another game which was supposed to be a dlc but it got so big it turned into an entire game.
I hope you started a trend that catches on. I'd love to see other youtubers share their experience with kickstarter both positive and negative and explain why they backed it and if it was worth it.
There was a review a couple years ago in a uk bbc science magazine called focus (now science focus) for the nura headphones and they really loved them. The whole idea was they tune so you hear frequencies better that your ears aren't as good at picking up and the reviewer reckoned that actually worked. He also said the combination over ear/ in ear thing gave really good clarity in both treble and bass, as well as having good midrange.
I’m fortunate in that everything I’ve backed so far has delivered, although I tend to be careful, avoiding things which are relatively complex and/or things like games unless the person/team has a good history and a prototype (where applicable). The only time though I got really excited about a project was the Checkmate A1500 case for my Amiga 1200.
@@bleakwinter1983 I generally like mine for the A1200, looking forward to the RPi adaptors. It's not perfect e.g. Gotek doesn't fit properly, but I have a 3D printer for some custom brackets and know some potential workarounds for the other stuff e.g. PCMCIA card sticking out.

They're still going to this day on the hammer. Apparently they're finally gonna start preproduction within the year, there's pictures of the 7th gen (!!) prototype and they've partnered with an actual manufacturer to start making them. What a journey lol.
This inspired me to go through my kickstarters. Everything that I've paid for on there I've gotten, and the two things that failed never actually got any money because the campaign failed. I guess I've been very lucky so far. I have backed The Last Curse, but I believe James will deliver that unless something happens to absolutely prevent him from continuing. I'm sure it will be late because of Covid-19, but that's understandable.

Guys, did you know that on Chrome you can middle mouse click a link and it will immediately open it in a new tab without having to open the right click menu? Or, if you're on a trackpad you can click while pressing CTRL and it'll do the same thing? You can also middle mouse click a tab to close it without having to aim for the x
Idk if it works on other browsers, but on firefox if you middle click on the empty space on the tabs bar it opens a new tab, as if you clicked on the *+* sign. AND if you middle click on the *+* sign it opens a new tab right after the one in focus.

On one hand videos of the game right now look SUPER polished and incredible, on the other, it's been like 9 years and they're still in alpha with few gameplay loops. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. Edit: 10 years now. Still no functional MMO system. Seems to me like this game has become too complex for them to maintain (especially in an MMO environment) and it will not see a final release. :(

I backed Pathfinder Kingmaker and ultimately was quite happy. At launch they had some major issues but it was their first time making a game so I understood and they ended up putting in the work to fix the problems and adding a lot of free dlc and update add-ons as a sort of love letter to the fans. I was so happy with Owlcat's choices in the long run that I was happy to back Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous just recently. Kickstarter can get you some cool stuff you just need a dependable group behind the project.
I got a pair of those Wearbuds that were featured on a few channels. The headphones themselves were great, comparable to the studio quality ones, but the watch itself is a little finicky. The watch sometimes thinks they headphones aren't in. Still, I bought it for wrist-bound headphones and got more than I hoped for
star citizen is very playable, apart from the novelty of flying trough a huge galaxy there is actual gameplay to speak of, nearly everything can be bought trough in-game grinding, there's combat missions, mining, cargo hauling. putting all your in game money on the line for a big profit is actually exhilerating. in a few days the prison system will get added wich has a huge gameplay loop, and I think the battlefield-like gamemode will also be added in the coming days
I've never had a board game go wrong on kickstarter. Maybe a delay or two, but every one I've backed has delivered basically what was expected. The only kickstarter I never received was the Polygons measuring spoons which to this day there are still updates going out for explaining the latest reason for the many year delay.
THE worst Kickstarter I backed was Pressy. A button that fits your 3.5 mm port. It should have been an easy thing to produce but for some reason they postponed the shipping so much that by the time I got mine, Chinese 1 dollar copies were abundant. The Pressy wasn't cheap either. I acrually was glad when I lost it.
I backed the original flexible lego tape strips. I did get them and they are awesome! However I have yet to use any of it because I have commitment issues. Lol i dont want to waste them! (Its been like 6 years)
Road Redemption (spiritual successor to the old Road Rash games) was one of only two things i ever backed, the other being Starbound which had its own issues (dev basically slaving people to work for free), and while i wish it took off more than it did, it certainly plays and feels like the old Road Rash games, i was satisfied and glad i could help that game see the light of day

I backed the photonlabs lights on Kickstarter and I was one of the couple hundred who received the lights out of a couple thousand.

star citizen is very playable, apart from the novelty of flying trough a huge galaxy there is actual gameplay to speak of, nearly everything can be bought trough in-game grinding, there's combat missions, mining, cargo hauling.
putting all your in game money on the line for a big profit is actually exhilerating.
in a few days the prison system will get added wich has a huge gameplay loop, and I think the battlefield-like gamemode will also be added in the coming days
the planets are procedurally generated, and then manually edited by the developers.
also it runs quite well, even on a 1050 ti
I've never had a board game go wrong on kickstarter. Maybe a delay or two, but every one I've backed has delivered basically what was expected. The only kickstarter I never received was the Polygons measuring spoons which to this day there are still updates going out for explaining the latest reason for the many year delay.
This makes me think of when I backed the Grifta controller and Starforge and now I'm sad.

THE worst Kickstarter I backed was Pressy. A button that fits your 3.5 mm port. It should have been an easy thing to produce but for some reason they postponed the shipping so much that by the time I got mine, Chinese 1 dollar copies were abundant. The Pressy wasn't cheap either. I acrually was glad when I lost it.

I backed the original flexible lego tape strips. I did get them and they are awesome! However I have yet to use any of it because I have commitment issues. Lol i dont want to waste them! (Its been like 6 years)

Road Redemption (spiritual successor to the old Road Rash games) was one of only two things i ever backed, the other being Starbound which had its own issues (dev basically slaving people to work for free), and while i wish it took off more than it did, it certainly plays and feels like the old Road Rash games, i was satisfied and glad i could help that game see the light of day
