    So, it seems like your definitions are largely coming from artists (who frequently misuse the word "masterboard") or from AI that is drawing from those websites, and so is essentially a middleman. "Master Board" comes from the printmaking industry and was used to describe an "original" or "master" printers would make on sturdy paperboard (either typeset or pictures, etc...) that would then be copied over and over for commercial production (to make books, fliers, cards, brochures, forms, etc...). This would keep the integrity of the image because all the copies came from the original (or a direct copy from the original, as was the case with ditto machines). This then became somewhat used in offices and schools where a "master" copy was made of documents or homework sheets that would be copied on copiers. This is why the colloquial artist definition of "masterboard" makes little sense, because it's the same as a "collage board" which already existed in the art world for years. A collage board is an art piece, generally of larger size, often using various media, that is then immediately used in an art work (often by cutting it apart). What most people are calling masterboards are collage boards. Hope that helps! 😊

      That would probably be what causes the confusion. I'm curious as to what one would call a larger piece of mixed media that has no collage on it that is then cut down to make ephemera? Thanks for sharing. ♥️ While we have borrowed the term, it has become the accepted term by most. I'll have to think about if I want to "fix" that or let it be. I will try to remember to pass on your information because I know there are those who will be interested in that background. ♥️ love&hugs

      @@DarcysMixedMedia has has Yeah, changing the tide on the use of the term may be impossible at this point, especially in this day and age of social media where so many have grown to (mis)use it. Not sure about the mixed media with no collage that is then cut down and used. I thought maybe "art board", but that was similar to a master in that it was used to define a space (like a business card) that would then be duplicated over and over again on a field (a full sheet) to make multiples in one print. If I come across the correct definition for what you're looking for, I'll make sure to come back and share it with you! 😊❤️

    Good explanation. I tend to think a masterboard is a basis or base for making something. It can be plain or collaged, but it will be changed into something or several somethings.
    Collage is putting pieces of paper together to make something specific - a masterboard or ephemera. I think maybe "masterboard" is a noun, but "collage" wis/was a verb (technique) that we've made into a noun!!IMO It took me a while to figure that out!!! ❤❤❤

      We do tend to turn verbs into nouns and vice versa (i.e., arting 😉). ♥️

    My definition of a masterboard is a large piece that has been put together using any medium in layers which is then cut down into smaller pieces to use as the base for more purposefull items, such as tags, journal cards, pockets, etc.
    Collage is the layering of cut out media, patches of paint, ink, markings, colour or plain or both that forms a look you like. The collaged piece can then be the base for a focal point, ie a flower or bird, or the collage may form a picture.

      Until you can afford the gel plate, I suggest you get the brayer you'll need for it. You can use the brayer without the gel plate.
      I'm glad I answered your question as well. I'm not sure if it's a language thing that confuses or not. I think Bente is also Swedish.

    I think of the term "Frankenpaper" as a form of Master Board. All types of paper glued together to form a single sheet of paper and used as a "blank canvas" to create a theme via mixed media.

    • @DarcysMixedMedia
      @DarcysMixedMedia  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My opinion (and it's only opinion) is that frankenpaper is collage that is then sewn: giving it the Frankenstein vibes (to ne technical: Frankenstein's monster vibes 😉). It can definitely be used as a masterboard. ♥️

    I would add that a collage is a finished piece of art, where a master board is cut up and used in creating art and collage.

    Lol, you should have quit talking about the differences sooner. I use both collage and master boards, and to me the essential difference are that master boards are principally for backgrounds for other things. They are often make by collaging pieces on to the paper. But they have a purpose and become part of something else. Collage is most often a free-standing or journal-included piece of art. It's a final product, not a staging towards a final product. By the way, I make tags, book covers and hidden paper clips mostly out of my master boards. If someone is doing a Pick 10 or something like that, I'll play along and get a master board out of it. I enjoy your videos, Darcy.n --Barbara Clark
