Barnegat Light Osprey Cam Banding

On July 1, CWF Habitat Program Manager Ben Wurst & CWF Volunteer Northside Jim, banded the two 4 week old osprey nestlings at this nest. Thank you to the Osprey Foundation for sponsoring this camera and United Rentals for comping our rental of the man lift to access the tall nest platform!

Good thing, many osprey chicks are not branded. This osprey couple would be smart to find another nesting place next year.........

It doesn't disturb them, they recover very fast. It's very helpful for the species. The Osprey can be tracked by their location, their nest and if they ever go to rehab for any reason they will know some history on that bird. I think its wonderful they band them. Osprey are protected birds. Many Osprey are banded

Sherri - we don't sex young ospreys. We'd have to wait until they're around 7 weeks old and then take measurements of their wing length, etc.
