Long time viewer, first time commenter. This is probably my favorite hike to date. Your videos are always fantastic, but there was something spectacular about the scenery here that really grabbed me! Thank-you so much for all the work and effort you put into your creations, including speaking clearly and the great educational narrative. The camera work is also a delight. So today, in this video I can say "YOU ROCKED"!

Nice! I am probably your LEAST likely viewer. Just a southern city girl who has NO clue about hiking or any other outdoorsy, canyon-related activities but your page somehow popped up on my main page as suggested videos just in recent weeks and I've been hooked. Watched about 10 vids so far. I love the way you explain things in your videos and the historical facts you've researched. A lot of people do not think to add those tidbits.

Thank you for making these videos I especially appreciate a shot like at 7:31 knowing that you had to set the camera up, hike up there, go back, get the camera, and hike back where you had been. That has to take some time. I appreciate all the extra time/effort you put into these videos.

Usually true. Sometimes I suspect he uses the drone for some of the shots of going far ahead, then just flies the drone back to himself. I could be wrong. Either way, it's work, and technically excellent.

Born and raised in St. George. My whole family lives there and all the surrounding areas. After I got married in 1987 I moved away because my husband was active in the military. Love seeing my hometown. My mom tells me a story of when she put me on her lap as she slid down that volcano and wore a hole in her pants. I was too little to remember and she's 88 now. She's lived there since 1945 in the same house! Times sure have changed in our little ole town of Dixie! If you are ever in this area and need anything just let me know! I know tons of people there!! Oh and I have pics of Snow Canyon from along this trail from the 1950's. John Wayne filmed some of his movies right there at Snow Canyon. "The Conqueror" was one of them.

Fantastic! I've beed to Zion several times, but never Snow Canyon, though know of it. The predominant rock layer, just like in Zion NP, is the Navajo Sandstone, which is a giant petrified dune field, much like parts of today's Sahara or the Namib Desert. It's from the Jurassic Period, and at that time what would become this area was on the southwest coast of Pangea, being a hot and arid coastal-inland desert. The multiple angled lines are cross-bedding, and are the result of shifting winds depositing sand in different direction. The Navajo is thickest here in SW Utah, where it forms big canyons like Zion. It thins out the furthur east you go.

At 7:46 we need an explanation as to how those rocks and specifically how the cracks between them formed. You didn't mention it but the formation looks exactly like megalithic stone construction. And we have absolutely no idea how the ancients accomplished that type of megalithic construction. That natural formation is astonishing.

Is there a 20ish mile canyon rim drive really near the interstate there? I'm pretty sure I pulled off the interstate there some years ago on a trip from Denver to Las Vevas. The canyon floor and roads were snow covered. The contrast with the red rocks was fantastic. I didn't see another person for the 90 or so minutes I spent there. It was magical. I had remembered it as "Red Rock Canyon" and that memory has always stuck with me.
As always, I really appreciate you taking us on your trips. I hope to get to spend more time in that part of the country.

The color of the sand is striking and makes for great images against the vegetation. We're always looking for hikes that *aren't* in National Parks because our retriever insists on hiking with us and the NPS doesn't want her around on any trails. So we're always looking for things similar to and maybe near, but not in, National Parks -- so, NFS, BLM, state parks, etc. Snow Canyon has been on our list for a while now, but our pup probably couldn't do some of that scrambling (even with us giving her boosts up as necessary). Anyway, thanks for another cool video.
