    I've always heard about the trough, but having it demonstrated clearly with Bob was enough to convince the anxious part of my brain to keep my head down when breathing. And I have now seen dramatic results already. Keep it up with the videos.

    Hi Chloe, I've been struggling with freestyle breathing, I've watched so many videos on this topic I lost count, but this video of yours really stands out. Though I heard lots and lots of people talking about breathing with the bow wave, it was not until I saw your genius demonstration with Bob that I finally believe that my mouth is actually safe from the water as long as I keep my head level when turning to the side to breathe. Thank you so much

    It's not enough to have a beautiful swimming technique. You have to know how to teach it... And you ace BOTH 😁. Congratulations on the best swimming videos I've seen so far on TH-cam

    What should be the head position in the water? What if the head feels too deep under water, and turning head 90* is not enough to reach the air?

    aww boy! about 6 hours of pool swimming trying to figure this one out.... just to find out that i was on the right track at the very beginning :D just needed some practice.... btw...i guess this is one of those things that cannot be done slowly? - to make a wave i need speed, if i do it very slowly i will not make this recess in water deep enough: so i will have to turn my head too much?

    Hello. What about exhaling? Is it better a constant exhalation while the head underwater, or an explosive exhalation just before the next inhalation?

    • @BeauMeztli
      @BeauMeztli 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really want to know about that too!

    • @Toecutter666
      @Toecutter666 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, a continuous exhalation is highly recommended, emptying lungs underwater. What you are suggesting is tantamount to "holding your breath", and this is a big no-no.

    • @anthonydechiara8586
      @anthonydechiara8586 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As you are swimming freestyle, you will want to constantly exhale through your nose while your face is submerged underwater. Try to keep your exhaling at a certain rhythm so it feels natural, not like you're rushing to forcefully push air out of your nose.

  • @joseardzm

    i want to add that rotation helps a lot here, and as in all strokes the less the head is move the better.

  • @zsoltszigetvari6538

    Great video Chloe, I'm glad I found your channel! Would you recommend to exhale through the nose when the face is in the water? Mainly I'm a runner so having a certain fitness level but in the water I've found myself running out of air pretty quickly, what's your thought on that?

    • @ChloeSuttonswim
      @ChloeSuttonswim  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Everybody does this a little differently at the elite level... we usually teach novice swimmers to hum out of their nose while their face is in the water. I know that I exhale slow and controlled out of both my nose and my mouth. Experiment and find what works best for you

    But when I try doing freestyle, and do what you taught me with the one eye out and one eye in with part of my mouth underwater, I have this feeling on choking on water and running out of breath and that stops my momentum. How do I take a quick deep breath in this scenario without choking on water and not feeling out of breath?

    • @ChloeSuttonswim
      @ChloeSuttonswim  8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      First, make sure you are breathing at the correct time. Watch my "Breathing in Freestyle" video and practice some of the drills. Also, you might just need to get over the psychological challenge of breathing relaxed with part of your face in the water. It can be hard to get your body to relaxed if you're not used to it. Keep working on it and you will figure it out! Good luck!

      Fabolous Four I've been practicing in an Olympic sized outdoor pool in November, December, January, and February. So I've been able to be comfortable swimming in the outdoor pool during winter months, because I live in South Florida. So I'm getting better in the freestyle breathing stuff by now.

    First, thanks for _fantastic_ tutorials. I have learned so much about swimming and I personally rank your channel as my top choice. In particular I like the detail and the way you show drills and common faults, plus the relaxed and natural style of your presentations. I have one wish though; I am not a native English speaker and the echo/ambience in your voice records makes it hard to hear what you say. I turn up the volume but then the music is way too loud. Any transcriptions, sound filters or mic placements to improve that would be great. Thanks again!

    First of all every TH-camrs forget mension about legs. To create wave you have to work hard with your legs to reach appriopriate speed! :)
    Second issue is that is unusally chalange do it in overcrouded sweemingpool ;)

    • @BanceSun
      @BanceSun 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont think that you have too use that much leg to create enough momentum, otherwise the triathlete woudln't be able to breathe anymore. Me personally think it helps, when I pull a little bit harder right before the breathe

      I asked other day a friend of mine to swim freestyle without kicking and she was surprised it was possible this said the most propulsion you get in freestyle is out of pull but kicks guve you extra speed which you can especially see practicing with a snorkel and fins without any pull just kucking!
