    In airsoft we weight the pistons on our snipers and AEGs to get more power out of a spring with a certain weight of BB, which the Nerf community seems to not know about. We usually wrap our pistons with solder, glue, and heat shrink and chrono until we lose FPS. Maybe be worth a try, but you seem to be getting a taste of that with that metal piston.

    • @BradleyPhillipsYT
      @BradleyPhillipsYT  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I had heard that people chasing high rate of fire builds like to lighten their Airsoft piston to avoid PME, did not know on the opposite end that people add weight. Interesting.

    • @SiliconeSword
      @SiliconeSword ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@BradleyPhillipsYT It is a very serious thing among snipers, where you will usually start at 20-30g and wind up at 50-75g. Some people end up at 150g, but that is usually way too heavy and is more likely a way to cheat chrono with joule creep.

      We used #8 washers instead with rounded out hot glue tips for optimal fps, aero, and stability. I'm 25 and been modding since 2007, back then we started using foam backer rod to make our own cheap (what were called Stefan darts) -- the basics of it are just cutting to the size of a talon dart, using the tip of a hot glue gun to burn an air hole in the back of the dart, then putting #8 washers on the front end of the dart, attaching it with hot glue and rounding out the tip of that dart the best you can. It sounds like a lot but it gets to where you're doing hundreds very quickly and it costs you practically nothing.

    • @SiliconeSword
      @SiliconeSword 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jacobarnet5115 I've been keeping an eye on the Nerf community pretty well for probably the past 8 years and remember Stefans and people loving the core of the Extreme Blastzooka for chucking in a Retaliator. I did a bit of modding myself, but never did much other than rebarrels, ammo conversions, and HPA conversions. Never really played much, not a huge thing in my area.
      I'm referencing piston weight, as it seems that with a heavier dart you want a heavier piston. There's lots of variables like barrel length/diameter and cylinder dimensions, but it's easy enough to add weight and chrono until you lose FPS. That way you can harness all the power from your spring and maybe make the gun not break itself as fast.

    You're spot on with the interesting observation about heavier plungers there Mr P; when the plunger in my brassed Sentinel broke at the point where the catch caught it, I had to hand cut and fit an aluminum piece to fish onto the end of the pl;unger and fix it. On a cut down length of worker 28n spring the fps when up from 170 to well over (200, depending on dart). Why? I think it's the momentum of the heavier plunger being able to KEEP it's velocity as it compresses the air in the plunger tube. One thing i may get round to doing is to test sealed breech springers I've had for a while, (Retal and Falconfire are prime candidates), and see what adding weight to the plunger does to fps. Maybe just duct-tape lengths of aluminium rod around the shaft of the plunger in 10gramme increments?

I used it for about 2 months with no issues, but recently, some darts have way lower velocity, and the blaster makes an odd "pthoo" noise when firing. Hey Bradley I been watching you for a while, I was wondering, if i want to buy a more powerful blaster than a nerf, would you recommend me getting a dart blaster or an airsoft blaster? And which model would you recommend?

    • @BradleyPhillipsYT

      If Airsoft is legal in your country, get Airsoft. The reason we use gel blasters and Nerf blasters here is because Airsoft is illegal.

    Its not the rifling not imparting enuff spin on the darts, its the bamboo darts ur using - the groove sections are smaller in diameter therefore string n bearing scars sometimes cannot put enuff pressure on those sections. Worker bamboo darts also wear out alot faster compared to worker normal ones due to the thicker sections getting wear out/thin out faster resulting in very erratic accuracy when using scars bcars. Will have to replace ur worker bamboo very frequently if you use bscar/scar to prevent accuracy loss over time or make sure ur bscar/scar r not the optimized types in the amount of pressure it puts on the darts.

    • @BradleyPhillipsYT
      @BradleyPhillipsYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      The worker rifling is suboptimal even for standard Worker darts though.
