    100% worth building these tires. They work great on ice and in snow. Just insane

    ive made a couple of different ice tires for my XR650 and DRZ400, and have had various results, but i really like this one. it seems like the amount of time to build the tire was worthit for the end result, and durability looks better than my screw-tire, but faster & cheaper to make than my snowmobile-stud tire. i think ill try this, good upload!

    Ive done it using about 375 tapcon screw (same as video) Its awsome soooo much traction and they barely used at all while riding on the lac and enduro , fireroad too with snow / ice. 100% best way to get into snow riding for cheap dont use a back tire that is too much used like i did other wise you wont like when the snow get too much deep!=) Also ... Use a new tire with the biggest knob you find in the front ..... Those screw in the front will last forever but they are sticking out way to much of a used front tire.. Use a new one it will last year and works better

    I'm thinking about two things that I want your opinion on:
    1- should I tac weld each nut on screw?
    2- should I use short screws on the outermost knobs and put them into the tire? like towards the inner tube ( ensuring they are short enough not to go all the way through).

    • @ChuddleBuggy

      @krisroos 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool thank you

    • @ChuddleBuggy
      @ChuddleBuggy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kris Roos
      Lol, I just want to clarify that I don't think it would work on a dirtbike. Ok on a mountain bike, definitely not on a dirtbike. I initially used inner tube material but I switched to duct tape when the innertube rubber shifted in the tire one time.

    • @krisroos
      @krisroos 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ChuddleBuggy hmm, what would happen if i did use duck tape, would the tube rub a hole in itself?

    • @ChuddleBuggy
      @ChuddleBuggy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kris Roos
      Yes. Duct tape is not built to handle friction and the higher loads that are being subjected upon it with the substantially heavier and more powerful dirbike. It might work for a while if you stack layers of it but I wouldn't trust it as much as the rubber pad of unknown origin found in the video.

    I would put washers in between the screws in the inside of the tires. for saftey, there for I dont want to ruien my tires.

  • @cate01a
    @cate01a 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    cool but yeah they seem to wear super quick and wouldnt be usable on cross terrain like asphalt? And when they were down you'd probably just have to chuck the tire or keep it and have that liner foam to protect itself
    So how about other solutions like chain?

    I have a couple questions, if someone could please answer me here:
    I want to stud some tires for riding on frozen lakes, not for tracks/frozen ground. I'm wondering if long aggressive studs like these are more for like frozen tracks where they can dig in more, not for solid ice, and shallower screws/studs are more suited for ice riding. I feel like long screws would get flimsy on solid ice. Am I on track here or what?
    Also, what exactly did you mean when you said crossthread those nuts onto the screws? Do the screw threads not quite match the nuts so they lock together? Do you have exactly what nuts you were using?
    thanks in advance and great video!!!

Because i dont own an impact and im planning to do this with wrenches. And if the bolt doesnt fit on the screw and you have to convince it to fit it maybe hard for me to do it

    Your going to want to go to the outside of the tire so you can really lean it over on the ice. Other wise you could lose traction and go down hard. It is ice. Like slippery concrete

    I've tried a couple versions of this, and is sucks. Basically, its only a matter of time until those screw heads chew through your liner and then your tube. If you use a liner thick enough to make the tire last a ling time, it's almost impossible to mount the tube and tire. If you want a tire you can use on trails, there is NOTHING better than 1/4" auto studs, also known as rally studs. They have carbide tips and don't go all the way through your tires. Do it right and avoid a LOT of wasted time and getting stuck in the snow miles from your truck.

  • @owengiese8387

    Is the width of that thread 1/4" lol did I understand correctly? Just wonderin coz I know only them metric units and I can't find that size screws, if the screws are 1-1/4" in length they are super narrow like 11/64" and that screw you showed was very thick... Of course I could use those not so thick screws but I think they will bend easier. Btw if this comment double posts I'm sorry it happens to me almost every time I'm not trying to troll or anything, this has happened me since this google+ thing came.
