Yup snow collapsed my flat roof (aluminum) in the arctic. I had no idea. I had to reset what I was doing. Imagine my surprise. This game NEVER fails to surprise me every time I play it.
yeah its funny cause i live in a area with no snow but high winds where my friend lives in a place with no winds but deep snow so I was building a artic base and he was like... flat roofs.... and we made 2 test huts outside of main one and sure enough just shattered and was like welp..... why its always good to have different view points and now we test everything lols
I have maybe, a stupid question but anyway, is the rocks walls better than the woods against wind and storm ? Concretely, if I decide to build my house with only woods but with very nice structure, is she will be exposed to the wind damage and storm (without talking about the flashes) ? Thank you very helpful for a beginner :)
not stupid question basically thatch is weakest against storms stopping basically category 1 storms wood can survive category 2 storms with little to no damage (fire hazard) stone can survive category 3 with little to no damage - reinforced glass is also as tough as stone (water pump + glass working bench to make reinforced glass) concrete is basically magic it basically can survive anything has massive thermal insulation (keeps heat in or out depending on zone) and has crazy levels of support making it easy to make massive structures with interior wood is bad against storm damage so use it inside metal walls are made for really portable bases for missions cause super light and pretty durable but still takes wind damage thx for the idea though will look into making a wall material explanation
Could you please tell me what roof pieces to use when connecting two wings? I have a 2x6 section and I'd like to place another 2x6 section coming off of it at a 90 degree angle. The build would look like an L from above. but I can't figure out how to seamlessly connect the roof sections. Anyone? I'd appreciate it. I've tried the different pieces but they just show red when I try to merge them with other roof panels.
As I saw that you reply to comments: the snow can lay on a flat roof, but will slide down on an angle. that what happens IRL and in game... i find it quite funny that you haven't thought about it at all xD ;)
we don't have snow here - we have hurricanes so our roofs are shallower almost flat so they don't fly off in high wind speeds we have snow every like 10 years and its on ground maybe 4 hours
@@ForgeTecGaming sorry if that sounded like an attack, English is my 2nd language and I can't even get the meaning across in German sometimes xD no worrys, I realy just found it funny to think, you and everyone else here in the comments seem to miss the point where snow glides down a ramp. It will stick at first, but if you get enough snow on a roof, the weight will win over the friction holding the snow on the roof, and it will just slide down. On a flat roof the snow will just start to accumulate and the weight of it will break through it. There are many accidents where snow broke flat roofes here in Germany, like our ALDIs here all have flat ones, and every now and then (like once every two years) there are news about one with a collapsed roof. Hope I got it clear this time, I didn't want to make fun of you, sorry again for that. Might add a funny snow falling from roof compilation later :)
@@ForgeTecGaming Here is a compilation of snow falling: th-cam.com/video/uqT9TVskXV0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vbF2nEeQNwJBWKlE Depending on the angle of the roofing and the texture of the snow (how heavy it is) you can have 10cm or a meter of snow on your roof bevor it starts sliding down. I think same "happens" in Icarus but without the satisfying view of snow "flowing" from a rooftop, so just remember guys: snowy biome ≠ flat roof
@@Dworien lols no worries didn't think it was - no actually it was a shock that the game company actually thought of it as well as the idea that depending on region people might not think about it my friends Danish and he actually brought it up when we were playing and was like hmm we have sense tried different shapes and materials in different zones and its a really cool detail the developers added since so many just use snow as a graphical element not a actual mechanic
Bro... How can I make sure all the walla are facing the right way?? My OCD is going nuts with all the mismatched directions teh wood walls and floors and shit!!
R actually flips them and there is actually a small arrow at bottom of walls to show the outside piece it makes it super easy once you know also you can do same things with floor pieces
@@ForgeTecGaming Doesn't help. Been standing with same piece forever, no matter what i do that arrow points inwards. R only flips it around, not inside out direction.

Really hard to find a good building guide for this guide. Nice one!
thx glad it helped
Thanks man. I learned a few things I didn’t know. 👍

I figured it out. You need to use 4 corner pieces.
