What an awesome mod. Pair this with OverkillRC's firmware and you have a system rivaling a $300 radio for an investment of about ~$100. if you sell the firmware kit the total investment goes down to ~$75, a steal.

Dasmikro no longer sells the kits to mod the radio, at least I don't know who's selling them anymore, but you can buy the radio that is already modified like the radio I showed above, I did not modify it myself, the radio came that way. imagine having it hooked up to the carb mixture setting where 3 positions will limit your tunability. or even a rear wheel steering setup on a crawler.
Nice mod I guess. Looks kinda funky, but if it works..... Now if Banggood could modify the TRANSMITTER so that it actually has a usable signal.... Again, I ordered a GT3C because I like the design and features. But after binding it to my cars, found that the signal looses connection to the car beyond 50 feet, which makes the radio unusable for me. I sent it back for exchange, but the 2nd one behaved the same way. My buddy has a GT3C and doesn't have that issue, so we bound one of my cars to his transmitter, and it had the same problem! But HIS cars don't??? I don't get it.
It sounds like your bec is failing. The voltage is dropping as you drive the vehicle, which causes your receiver to brown out. If you are using a Savox Servo, or if your servo is bad, it could cause a power drain as well. Hope this helps
Appreciate the input, Elliot, but I don't think it's the BEC because I'm using two different ESCs. And both cars behave the same. Both cars are using Hitec servos. Yet, both cars work perfectly with the 8 AA-powered FlySky GT2. But not the 1S Lipo-powered GT3C.

Oh wow. That's strange. I switched to a Futaba 4pl a few years ago, and the difference was phenomenal. Rock solid input and zero range issues. I hope you get this issue sorted out.

Honestly, I would go with Radiolink (also available through Banggood) much better radio all the way around with 4 channels... I did the firmware mod on FlySky and I hated it... because you lose all the short cut trim settings :(
So you can not set end points etc on the extra channels, right? Have you tried or do you know if it would be compatible with a firmware hack to get these finer adjustments and reversing etc on the extra channels. Good video btw.
Bill DeLong I'm sure you no longer own this radio but reading the available online manual, you can pretty much do anything with this radio as everything is can be assigned to any key at any point. It's a quirky menu system, I'll give it that!
I've got the same radio, and about to do the mod myself. To do it, you break the connection between the controller board, and RF board. Then you use a dasmikro board between there, which reads the PPM from the control board, and then generates it's own PPM signal to be fed into the RF board. So there is no way the control board can be used to set the EPA, reversing and trims of the extra channels, since the other channels are added after the controller mainboard. And the dasmikro board doesn't allow this either, which is kinda crap. You can however add mechanical reversing switches and EPA adjustment pots. Which involves soldering to the pots and switches to physically reverse the direction, or add resistance to either end of the pot, limiting it's end points. But that would be a royal PITA

As of 9/2018 you no longer can find the DIY expander board on ebay or other Chinese sites. This is a damn shame! You are forced to spend more money and buy an already modded one. Luckily I got one before they disappeared.
I got mine cause I like the way they look and thought it didn't have the built in gyro, so I messaged they saying I didn't want it cause It didn't have one and they said yeah if it doesn't send it back.

Hi what receiver did you use for this video and did you try it out in the field for distance? I also read that they only have a very small battery for this transmitter,do you have any problems with running out of power faster than a trx that have a 2 cell lipo?

that's why I did the video with the box opening to see exactly how it came delivered, you can buy the kit separately for $15 and install it in your own radio if you prefer
they enhanced the radio to use additional channels that were not leveraged from the original design so it's now an 8 channel radio... the original 3 channels work the same, the new channels have no menu/programming support.

Why would you need the twist rotary style knobs? The 3 position switches are awesome.
the options are endless, they provide proportional steering control, perhaps for head figures, on board camera mounts, etc...

correct, and no the hack won't access any additional channels, in fact the hack actually removes accessibility from the 3rd channel
