    I have long listened to this music, have thousands of these tunes on the 78's, and have also recorded many of them and know the process. But Prozoot does everything just perfect. He records and removes the standard ticks, pops, and hiss without over-filtering and so the records retain the full dynamic range and sound wonderful as if playing on new recordings from that era. This is a difficult balancing act and he is king of managing this so expertly. Please continue this fine fine work. I am most grateful for your time and efforts!

    On a Tuesday night October of 1976, the Paul Whiteman Orchestra Revisited performed at The Academy of Music in Philadelphia PA. I took my Dad for his 58th birthday.... They opened with "Sugar", as this compilation does. It instantly took me back 46 years to that very happy night with my Dad, who was a Saxophone and Clarinet player in the 1930's and early 1940's, and knew many of the musicians on stage personally...Much thanks for this great memory:)

    Special thanks for including the lovely version of Do I Hear You Saying I Love You? Rodgers & Hart expected this to be a hit, and for reasons I’ve never understood it remains obscure. Whether done as an uptempo fox trot as here, or as a ballad duet, I think it’s a charmer.

You managed to dig out the very best in these already fantastic records, so much so, You solved a mystery for a very good Friend of mine - in the record "You Took Advantage Of Me" Bing sings the lyrics so look the doors and call me "yours* Bing barley sings the word "yours' He could not hear "Yours"- that is until now! I can hear every instrument playing. My beloved Crosby can be heard very well. Your efforts are amazing. I must pick your brain about how you get the sound this way. @@Prozoot I must admit I generally like mr. Davies' work, but I understand where you're coming from. Before I started looking for the original 78's and mostly collected cd's, seeing his name on a cd booklet usually was a guarantee for a decent restoration job. But the more I started to listen to original 78's, the more I realized something was missing on those cd's. Nevertheless, I still believe, when I compare his work to the work of many of his colleagues, he was certainly one of the better audio engineers out there. I wouldn't call it over processing myself, that's more of a term I would associate with Bill Hebden or those horrible ASV Living Era cd's with their underwatery sound and other weird digital artefacts. But I do think that R.T. had a tendency to filter out the top end a little too much. The best audio restoration work on cd that I've heard was done by Richard Nevins on the Yazoo label. The cd tracks sound as if you're playing the original 78's in NOS-condition on top of the line equipment. Unfortunately (for me) the Yazoo label has issued very little dance band music. Bryan Wright at Rivermont Records does a great job also!

    • @Prozoot
      @Prozoot  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@franknewman1194 ....thanks for your thoughts, Frank. I agree with you on most points, and especially that years ago Davies was the best bet for remastering. But he did clip all the air out of the room -- I guess it was what people expected. For my own preference, if I don't hear some degree of medium noise, only as a technical background for the music, I can't listen to the transfer. I don't want someone deciding which frequencies I should not hear -- my ears and brain can do the filtering. I want to hear everything!
      I find myself apologizing to fans of the channel because they are not able to hear the original HD 24bit 96 kHz transfers -- they do tend to blow one's sox off. People who love Bix and Bing, et al have never heard classic vintage jazz in true HD on a disc. It has never dawned on Sony Music that there is room (and desire) in the SACD market for vintage jazz. I had always wanted to try issuing some DVD-Audio so people could hear what I am hearing in the studio. But it's too late now -- that ship has sailed. The disc market is finished. .....Roger

      In The Twenties according to Richard Lawrence, dance bands took all the credit back then and left little to the vocalist. If you read the record label it usually reads “Fox trot with vocal refrain.” Of course, that would change in The Thirties and Forties when bands began to showcase the female singers.
