A very good reaction. The lyrics break down was interesting. Tuomas's lyrics are quite poetic. He uses a lot of metaphors and words that are probably in a dictionary but have not been used in years and years. A lot of the songs he writes are based on what he has experienced in his personal life.
I am sorry that you are getting bullied by some over zealous fans. I feel bad when this happens. Take care and stay safe.

Wow, I'm seriously impressed by Alena to pick all of that from one listening! This song definitely has a statement against institutional religion (or any other belief system, be it political or religious that is there to control the people) and ties in with the song Weak Fantasy from the same album Endless Forms Most Beautiful. Tuomas (who writes and composes almost all of Nightwish songs) is known to be very interested in science, biology and evolution and thus has a bone to pick with institutions that oppress science and freedom with their beliefs. The whole album (Endless Forms Most Beautiful) is basically a love letter to science and evolution, nature and the wonders of the world. And institutional religion is one of the juxtapositions that causes people to look past these things and live a life rooted in false premises. They are throwing their life away for an empty hope of an afterlife (or just a promise of future) where everything will be better - missing the fact that the actual moment they are living is full of wonder and beauty. You can find this theme reappearing continuously on Nightwish records ever since their very first album "Angels Fall First" back in 1997. Angels, devils, demons and religious mythology are a big part of the Nightwish lore.
And just to clarify, I don't believe Tuomas has anything against spirituality or personal beliefs regarding religion. The argument he builds up in these songs (especially in Weak Fantasy) are against institutional religions that control the masses with a premise of afterlife and force people to obey with fear, guilt, punishments and thoughts of sin, which leads to a lot of chaos and oppression in the World.
You can catch this theme more easily in the lyrics if you listen to the whole album in order (and especially if you are already familiar with Nightwish albums), but to catch it from listening to this song once and just reading the lyrics is very impressive to me.

Apologies for stating the obvious, but Wembley Arena isn't the same as Wembley Stadium. Wembley Arena is about 12,500 according to ye olde Google search. The Wacken show from 2013 was in front of roughly 82,000 people, but I would never say Nightwish 100% drew that crowd. Wacken is the biggest metal festival in the world. Nighwish WAS the headline act that evening, however, so that certainly speaks for them. Whatever the reason those people attended Wacken in 2013, they saw one of the best shows of all time, I'll for sure say that. Good job guys. :-)

@@Killerpixel11 As would the Download Festival and Gastonbury 110,000 and 120,00 respectively. At a mere 12,500 Wembley arena is small-ish but good fun to be at. Those flame throwers they use a damn hot even when your standing just in front of the mixing desk about 50 meters from the stage. You could still feel the heat from them.

So just because this matters to the Nightwish Army, the personnel of this outfit is as follows.
    Present
Floor Jansen (Holland) - vocals and a keen headbanger. AKA Metal Goddess, Metal Amazon
Marko Hietala (Finland) - bass guitar, vocals and long ass beard grower
Emppu Vuorinen (Finland) - guitar. Low in stature, huge stage presence
Troy Donockley (England) - tin whistle, Uilleann pipes, various other instruments, vocals - the multitool of Nightwish
Kai Hahto (Finland) - Drums and rhythm machinist
    And the master himself:
Tuomas Holopainen (Finland) - keys / synth and the main composer of all that is Nightwish - both musical and lyrical.
    Past members
Tarja Turunen (Finland) - first lead vocalist with the operatic voice long jet black hair 1996 - 2005
Anette Olzon (Sweden) - second lead vocalist with a more poppish voice 2007 - 2012
Jukka Nevalainen (Finland) - drummer and pirate 1997 - 2014. Now the manager of the band and the awesome drummer at the legendary Wacken 2013 performance.
Sami Vänskä (Finland) - Bass guitar 1998-2001. I have never seen him perform with Nightwish.

Thank you Brad and Alena for the Nightwish reactions that you have been doing. I guess I would consider myself a member of the "Nightwish Army" as I do find myself quite often searching through TH-cam for new Nightwish reactions. Hence how I found your channel. I would like to make a few requests / recommendations for future Nightwish reactions. In my very humble opinion these songs are all rights of passage for any new Nightwish fan:
#1. NIGHTWISH - Ghost Love Score (OFFICIAL LIVE) - Will blow your minds due to Floor's vocal ability!
    th-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/w-d-xo.html
#2. Nightwish - The Poet And The Pendulum (Live Wembley Arena 2015~Vehicle Of Spirit)
    th-cam.com/video/qUAoCc9mYFA/w-d-xo.html
#3. Nightwish live @ tampere The Greatest Show On Earth
    th-cam.com/video/45brzDJKZ3o/w-d-xo.html
You may have already read this somewhere but the keyboardist (Tuomas Holopainen) is the main composer for the majority of Nightwish's songs. If I understand correctly most of the songs he writes come from his heart and his own life experiences. Some of the songs can be pretty dark at times but I believe by him putting his feelings into songs as he does helps him to make sense of the things he has to deal with in his personal life. I can see that certain songs are very close to his heart as when the band is performing them you can see the emotion on Tuomas's face as he mouths the words along with floor.
So, again thank you very much for doing the Nightwish reactions that you have done. I look forward to seeing more :)
And welcome to the Nightwish Army!
    Gord

    • @gbusse
      @gbusse 4 ปีที่แล้ว

No problem 😀 You wont see it in every song but occasionally you will see him mouthing the words. Sometime he does so with his eyes closed while playing the keyboards! My own personal opinion is that every member of the band is an expert on their chosen instrument. Floor's being her voice. In the video for "The Greatest Show on Earth" you will see Troy, a "Multi-Instrumentalist" and the latest addition to the band. A very talented musician and singer. The different pipes and such that he plays add a sort of Celtic feel to some songs.

Wembley Arena is much smaller than Wembley Stadium - I learned this the hard way driving to a The Who concert from my job in Germany (ferry) and looking for scalper tickets in an empty parking lot upon arrival 😳🙄 Thankfully a very nice British fellow drove by and over to me, clarified and laughed, then gave me a lift where I got an 8th row seat for what I had thought might be there last concert at that time (definitely was not...). Was a superb venue to watch the show in and my 4th time that tour seeing them (Boston and Raleigh before going to work in Germany) as a model of comparison.

Got a ridiculously great deal on the 8th row one I acquired......
