  • This is the last garden video this year. I had some viewers ask about planting garlic and did a quick video about it. Also have spent the last couple weeks cleaning up the messes that got away from me this summer. With all the rain and heat I spent most of the summer indoors and the jungle took over my entire yard. Now starting to do the final yard cleanup of leaves. Over 4 weeks later and my truck is still at the dealers waiting to be worked on.

      That helps it overwinter better . Remove most of it in the early spring. Good luck. Thanks for watching.

      Thanks. There's a video about making the bundt cake. Just search my channel for butternut. We have just started cooling down and may see the first snow this week. My outdoor gardening is done for the year. Will be starting lettuce in a grow tent soon. Thanks for watching and subbing.

    BEAUTIFUL sight to see your tidy garden all ready for next year! I am praying for a hard frost ASAP. I have so many perennials, annuals and shrubs that will need days and days of clean-up. I have massive clean-up to do still of all the giant tough weeds from our wet summer. I've weeded asparagus three times and still need to do it again. This was the worst summer ever in my lifetime for asparagus beetle infestation. Multiple generations hatched in waves and decimated the plants down to dry stalks but they did rebound eventually. ALL those stalks and debris need to be cut, removed and burned. Same with the massive tomato vegetation. I actually enjoy fall clean-up and look forward to crisp days and bright sunshine. So far, we have had little of that here and still lots of rain. Of course, the one year I did NOT plant fall peas, lettuce or spinach and we get a whole month and half extra growing time than last year! I am kicking myself. Fall is the only reliable growing time for those crops. I am looking forward to making a whole lot of leaf mulch. Let's hope winter and early snow doesn't hit before the leaf and yard clean-up. No doubt, you have all kinds of indoor projects lined up for winter. Don't forget to take a breather and relax a bit also. 💚🎃

      Glad it's over but the yard clean up will take a couple months. The bottom of my hill by the pond was wet all summer and some of the grass is over my tractor hood. leaves are starting to fall and I am glad its finally cooling down because I have been fighting yellow jackets the last couple weeks. Now starting to move firewood up and have to begin cutting more for next year soon. Never lost so much of a summer to extreme heat and rain before. My truck is still at the dealer (almost 5 weeks now ) They are having covid problems with employees and also trying to find new employees that has really set their schedule back. They sold the first loaner I had and sent out a new Silverado I am putting miles on but they have buyers lined up for it. Our son and his wife have covid now and my sister went in Albany medical center with kidney failure last week. last week we also had a very sick dog with some kind of stomach infection but she is fine now after a couple trips to the vet and antibiotics. It definitely has been a couple crazy weeks for us. like you I did not get my fall crops in but have the grow tent ready to start lettuce soon. Can't wait for snow to shut down the outside work. Thanks for watching.

      @@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Wow. I hope and pray everyone in the family has a speedy recovery. And that you get your truck in perfect order. I have a nice golden raspberry fall crop but can not get near them to pick because they’re literally covered in ravenous yellow jackets too.

    I guess I won't be planting garlic this year. Garden needs major work and tilling. I am sure I will be back at it next year. That is so easy to grow and I do love garlic.

      I tried one of the echo blades first but it didn't cut good so I tried an old carbide blade and it works good. Just watch for rocks. Thanks for watching.

    i save whole tree leaves for mulching my asparagus beds after i quit picking it, and have found it to be the very best mulch for keepng the weeds at bay for the rest of the year.

      I am in the process of collecting them now. Our asparagus plants are ruined by the weeds this year that are spreading from the roots. Thanks for watching.

    I may have missed it but how big are those round beds that you were planting up with the garlic, also how big are the rectangular ones as it looks like an interesting layout that you've got and I was inspired to do something similar

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the round ones are 42 to 48 inches and rectangular ones 36 x 72 inches. The raised beds really make gardening easier for me. Thanks for watching.

    What height fence do you recommend for our area?
    I have a variety of animals enjoying my labor

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the animals. I had to add 4 ft of that white tape to stop a rogue deer last year so about 8 ft is good for deer but animals like raccoons, skunks, squirrels, and chipmunks can climb anything so electric wires can help control them. Thanks for watching.

    You plant your garlic in raised beds ? The so-called gurus tell me to plant directly in the ground and that my hardneck garlic will die off in the winter otherwise. Looks like this is not a problem in your region ? I live north of you, in Eastern Ontario, so if you are successful growing garlic in a raised bed, then so will I. Thanks.

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We only hit about 5 below in the winter and I have had excellent harvests from the raised beds. Not sure if it will work in your area but It would pay to try a couple extra cloves in a raised bed to try along with your inground plantings. That would let you compare the results before totally committing. Thanks for watching.
