  • Finally got around to reviewing the Marlin Ecutek ECU Remap using on my Honda Civic Type R FN2.
    First major mod to the Civic and what a great one to start with. Start like you mean to go on and all that...
    For those that don't know, I intend to turn my FN2 into a race car over the next couple of years whilst gaining my racing license so that I can start racing properly.
    Lots more modifications to come, suspension, brakes, weight reduction, roll cage, performance, the list goes on...
    I hope you all join me on my journey to modify the hell out of my Civic Type R.
    Please like and subscribe.
    Thanks for watching :)

    You have to be on vtec for the downshift......flatfoot you need to be on vtec...

  • @sampowell3465

    I believe the blip on downshift only works if you touch the brakes and push the clutch in whilst over 4k revs... for flat foot shifting, you must have wide open throttle, or foot to the floor 100%... if it isnt wide open throttle, it doesnt work.... took me a few attempts to get the hang of it myself... amazing bit of kit ... sunscribed

    • @goshhT
      @goshhT 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Out of interest mate, can you drive 'normally' at the lower rpms in the flatfoot shifting mode? Say if I wanted to put it into the mode with the crackle on overrun and Flat foot shifting but didn't want to have my foot planted until I found some B roads?

  • @goshhT
    @goshhT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Was eagerly awaiting this review and it definitely didn't disappoint! Sounds a pretty solid bit of kit too. Once I've fitted my intake it looks like I'll have some more saving to do to get one of these.

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. You're never going to get the gains like you would with a forced induction engine but it's great for a naturally aspirated engine.

    • @goshhT
      @goshhT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ModFix That's very true! I've seen typically people getting around 220bhp with intake, catback and a remap. Though as you say, this is nothing compared to the gains from forced induction (although the costs are much greater in comparison).
      Does your Marlin ECU have the advanced traction control as well?

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah 220bhp is very reasonable. No advanced traction control on mine. I could be wrong but I think you need the Bluetooth version so you can adjust it on your phone.

    • @goshhT
      @goshhT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ModFix Almost forgot about the bluetooth version, I think you're probably right on that one though. Although I believe you can get the traction control fixed without bluetooth, but it's an added extra.

    Also, vtec has been lowered but it depends on throttle position, if ur in 6th gear and just feathering the throttle then vtec will come on as normal at 5.5k.. if you are foot down it will come on at circa 3800rpm... this allows you to cruise on the motorway

    • @ModFix

      Thanks for the info buddy. I found it quite tricky to find actual facts and figures on the internet for the various modes. Hopefully people watching it will have a flick through the comments and see your info.

    Thanks for that. I had a Hondata Flashpro Group N upflash on my previous FN2, and i really liked it. Unfortunatelly i sold the flashpro wih the car, so now back in business and shopping around for remap. Did they have to code the keys for you with new ECU?

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good point. I didn't need the keys coding with this Marlin ECU, but I did when I later got the car mapped by Dynodaze on a dyno.

    I've recently fitted a marlin ECU to my stock fn2, I think it made my fn2 mpg worse even though I'm driving normally. Have you noticed this?

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  ปีที่แล้ว

      No I didn't notice it get worse. Its definitely worse now, but I think it's because of the front splitter and rear wing.

  • @MrMorka39

    Vtec engage in high rpm because to keep petrol consumption low. If you drive motorway 130 km/h with vtec kick in I believe consumption would be higher. Engine made to drive eco in low rpm and high rpm when you race. I have one R and gearbox is different from regular civic. It always gives higher rpm at the same speed compare to regular civic. That's my thoughts

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment 👍VTEC won't kick in unless you give it enough throttle. I can sit on the motorway at 5k rpm and VTEC won't engage unless I press the throttle down a certain amount.

    • @MrMorka39
      @MrMorka39 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok. That's smart then. I just have checked web. Which one you bought? What's price?

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had mine Remapped since so no longer using the Marlin map. I originally had the stage 1 as I didn't have any mods. I would defo recommend a proper remap on a dyno if you can get somewhere though

    Nice one - a few questions:
    Where did you buy yours (Norton Tuning Solutions?)
    After you installed and plugged it in - what initial set up did you do or what s required? or does the car just read it and you turn the key 🙂 ?
    Once installed, do you have to activate each of the tunes or are they just available? will VTEc, for example, then kick it at lower revs etc?
    Apologies for sounding a bit thick about this?
    TIA

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike, thanks for watching 👍 I got mine from tpwengineering which is the creator's (Paul West) company. Yeah it's just plug and play. I didn't need to do anything else. All 4 modes are available using cruise control buttons and VTEC should be 3,800 rpm 👍

    Was this with the Bluetooth phone app thingo included? I saw that bumps the price up like over 350 pounds!! Also how do you access the pops and crackles from the steering wheel? Is that setting included?

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't get the Bluetooth phone app version. That's only essential if you don't have cruise control. Yeah pops and crackles are included. You press the cruise control cancel button then you can use the cruise control up/down buttons to cycle through the 4 modes (can't remember which one is pops and crackles)

    I have been reading about this ECU. Question: on the stage 1 it says vtec lowered to 3800rpm.. in the stage 2 it says 4000rpm or 6000rpm on part throttle. Dose the stage 1 switch into vtec at 3800rpm regardless of throttle position?

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On mine it doesn't. I don't know what throttle position you need to get to to get it to engage, but if I'm pootling along at like 4k it won't engage, but if I put my foot down VTEC kicks in. I would ask Paul West on the Facebook FN2 forum for the specifics

      I think it's great mate. It wouldn't be quite as good as custom map on a dyno but the next best thing if you can't get to a dyno. I was about 10 peak bhp up and more like 20-30 in the mid range.

    • @ModFix
      @ModFix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mainly get more around the mid range rpm. I think it's 20-30 more at 4k-6k because of the lower vtec. Mine was about 10bhp more at max rpm (although I had also changed the backbox too)
