    I'm so glad TH-cam suggested this video, leading me to your channel, and to Maker's Leather Supply. I bought a beginner kit from Tandy Leather three years ago, and got side tracked by other hobbies before getting started with it. My attention recently returned to leather, and I've been searching for a leather craft supply shop in the Waco area.

    I started doing leather work to make nice sheaths for my knives. I found I enjoyed it as much or better than knife making. I do more leather than knives now, but still make one or two a month and I make belts, wallets, small clutch/purses, sheaths of course and the occasional odd project like artistic bookmarkers. I even made a vest but found it's too much labor without a sewing machine. I enjoyed your video and found it helpful. I have drafting tools and a small board that would make your pattern much faster to do and somebody's getting your pattern on a journal cover for Christmas.

      I just got some second hand tools, some leather and a few bits and pieces to make a couple of knife sheaths but ended up starting to make a rifle sling as my first ever leatherwork project today.
      Its far from fantastic but its a start and will get it finished over the next few days as all i have done so far is cut the shape i want and put a border but this has inspired me to add some tooling too!

      @@jamiem5364 Go for it. I'm still wearing the first belt I ever made, it's holding up well and it has taken the contour of my waist so when I take it off it waves instead of being straight.

      @Matthew M I think I already have the bug haha
      I really thought it would be alot harder than it is, ive always been into wood work etc so love making stuff.
      Im sure it will take some time to get good at it and still have other tools that I need to buy which seems like that will be never ending too.
      Already put a basic border stamp on just deciding what inside tooling to do with what I already have which isnt alot yet.
      Awesome stuff its great using hand made things. I love hunting with reloads as it just seems even more rewarding after all of the effort of load development etc.

    The design you're talking about on an old sofa is called "tufted".
    They punch holes in a pattern and thread big heavy buttons and cord threw the holds. The cords are pulled tight and secured.... Tufted...

    • @invictusbp1prop143
      @invictusbp1prop143 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never heard of “tufted”, but my mind went more toward a Tuck and Roll (or Tucked and Rolled) like what was used in classic and custom car interiors in tho 50s and early 60s to make consecutive horizontal semi-cylinders for lack of a better word, with the baffles filled with cotton batting. Later styles done more in 1970s custom jobs had more of a raised pleated/gathered diamond pattern with buttons sewn into the corners.

    Way easier then tape on the leather is a tiny amount of spray adhesive on the slab.. granite... you’ll never notice it, but it will stick the leather beautifully. Just do it twenty minutes ahead of the process... and have a bit of goo be gone to clean any over spray. Or do it outside.

    I'm grateful to you for posting this to teach us. BUTTTT!! your camera is so far away that I couldn't understand the edge roping.. that was one thing that I need to learn. This is as far as I've gotten. It's just that you're too far away , also please show the tools and how to hold them in the patterns , please Sir. 👍
