    First off, I am a very big fan of JS. Have been since 1970. It's good to see some live footage of his live performances. I wish he could have enjoyed some more success than he did..........but he was uncompromising in his vision. Even some of his attempts at putting out some commercially viable jazz with "Fire Fly".....didn't really get him any more of a following then what he already had. I think the history of jazz flute would not be complete without acknowledging his contribution and influence.R.I.P JS............you sure will be missed.

      There was Ian Anderson and Jeremy --Sam Most and Paul Horn , Joe Farrell who surprised me with his second instrument the flute , James Moody who really impressed me with his melodic sense , but not much else circa 1970 that I had access to as Jazz Flute. I was very fortunate to grow up near Platypus Records on Hollywood Blvd . It was among the very first used and new record shops in the world. I had no idea what exclusivity I was a part of. Firefly was my first intro to Steig and I enjoyed it.

    I started to REALLY like jazz flute after hearing him playing with Bill Evans on a landmark album called "What's New - Bill Evans with Jeremy Steig". Now, this video is also an ear opener. Thank you Hiljainenvesi!

    Jeremy's memoirs were published in April: "Get Me Out of Here." Fascinating book (see Amazon) and a wild ride.

      Other than a two-minute snippet from the early 200's, I believe so.

    He's definitely the best. Better than Herbie Mann.

    • @Hiljainenvesi
      @Hiljainenvesi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Absolutely. Herbie Mann is too man. Steig is technically superior compared to anyone and had very orginal style. Also good compositions.
