    and another great comparison. Wow they are extremely close. And it look like the MTMs could be branded with a Genelec logo on the front and if you didn't know the MTMs you'ld say they were from the same company.
    I'm glad I bought a pair of these. For the price difference you cant go wrong with the MTMs!
    Thanks again DS!

    they both have their strengths & weaknesses. on my studio system (eve-audio), the genelecs are a little flatter (but slighty edgy); the mtms have more bass, but it's not a true deep bass; more of a pushed mid-bass... which i don't necessarily hate.
    tough call (am looking for some small monitors for home); these videos are SO useful, tho... thanks for that (am leaning towards the mtms... hmmm...)

    The MTM's sound closer to the source... though both speakers need a 110-Hz boost because both are missing it.
    The Genelecs sound clearer BUT - its missing the bottom end. a person would be hard pressed to actually get low end to sit properly without A/B other monitors to make sure.
    the MTM's on the other hand, seems to carry the bass very well and in parallel to the source music. Much easier to sit the bass on to a track with them.
    Im listening through an Apollo x8p and ATH-M50X headphones.

      There's not a huge difference but if anything I would've thought the genelec would be more fatiguing since they arguably sound smaller and more shrill if either is noticably shriller at all. Where do you hear the difference coming from?

      @@kohnfutner9637 hi kohn. i ended buying the iloud MTM and have them now as my second set of monitors (my other ones are a pair of Neumann kh310 which are absolutely awesome!). I was able to audition the iloud MTMs for myself and thought they were really nice for what they do.... and their price is unbeatable. I already tried the mic compensation, and although subtle, it does make a nice little difference in my treated room. overall, extremely happy with this buy and being able to AB my mixes in a very realistic way! my comment regarding the genelecs vs the iloud was what i heard here at home, but think about it: sound is already altered by whatever microphone is used to record, the compression youtube will apply and the color of your monitors or headphones. plus most of the examples used in this channel, are already extremely compressed! i mix and master mostly jazz and classical, so it's another world. if you are thinking about buying them, i think you will like them! cheers!

  • @JoshyLats
    @JoshyLats 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    iLoud has a lot better bass but Genelec has a bit better clarity in mids and highs. You can hear it slightly in the guitar 🎸 sounds and some of the very high snare sounds and vocal "s" sounds. But the iLoud brings out some other mid guitar and vocal frequencies that Genelec seems to be missing makes it 'fuller' and more enjoyable. You can hear it in Retro Wave, the Genelec sounds tinny and empty, but also accurate and responsive. Like it focuses on certain freqencies and has a more responsive tweeter. After the snare sound 🔊 it quickly changes to like a noise sound 🔊 that the iLoud can't quite adapt quick enough to and it makes it sound live.

    Digital Stereophony, which of these monitors are more suitable for listening to music (not for working with sound), do you consider these two to be the best quality on the market?

    • @deafno
      @deafno 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They are both pro audio monitors designed to use in a very limited space environment. Other than how low the bass goes, you should not think which one sounds better, because they both aim to help you mix audio accurately. If you are not getting a sub, then you should get MTM since the bass goes lower on that. If you get a sub, then 8020D has wider sweet spot as MTMs are designed to radiate sound from those 2 woofers in phase so you must place them very accurately. MTMs have integrated room correction functionality (you need to use supplied microphone) which could also be a decisive factor.

    • @deafno
      @deafno 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@highland1997 A5x could be a good choice. I am personally fan of Neumann's as they have low self noise (hiss). KH 120A or KH 80 DSP with sub. The KH 750 DSP sub seems also very nice with the digital controls. I am looking to get one myself, but haven't tested it yet. I would not get MTMs with sub as I think their room compensation software does not take into account the use of subwoofer.

    Great video as usual! Just a quick question, is there a huge difference between the Genelec a, b, c, d models?
    I know you have a pair of 8010As and this pair of 8020Ds and they are different in size, but in case you have any experience comparing between a, b, c and d in the same size Genelecs. Thanks a lot!

    • @switchblademusic7833
      @switchblademusic7833 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A, B, C, D just determines the generation, some models have models from A-C some only have A-B, it really only matters if you are buying used gear to determine its age, but with Genelec their reliability is outstanding but they are often very pricey for their age, for example I found 8040a-s for Around 1150 euros but they are an old model so it can be a gamble, but overall the letters determine the generation of the model, different amps, different power/volume controls, more efficency, as far as I know the sonics should be pretty much the same

    The great "weapon" of MTMs is the ARC microphone which helps you to calibrate each speaker separately according to your room
    You miss a lot from its potential if you don't calibrate them.... it's a 2 minute job.
    THEN, if you want, put the low shelf to 40 Hz... 50 Hz is the "flat" point of them....
    -----CONCLUSION------
    With a pair MTM PLUS a descent subwoofer, your mixings will go to an other level.
    Humble opinion.

"hi-fi" speakers in comparison is so needy :D but mtm cost much cheaper than 8320 + plus you need buy software if I'm correct which probably would be in the end 2x the price and with mtm everything is included. Genelecs have more timbre but also sounds a bit more splashy in the high end. Lower in bass obviously. MTMs sounds a bit tubby, less clarity, but has more authority in the low end. MTMs has smaller image compared to Gens. Not very critical mixing tool but good for balancing.

    • @rubiooibur8534
      @rubiooibur8534 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you only say that because iLoud is the cheaper one and Genelec has a longer history. But you definitely lost me when u said its not a mixing tool when Chris lord alge and other mixing engineers have them in their studio. The small genelecs like 8010,8020,8030 are for broadcasting thats why you only see them on printing desks in studios never in the mainroom. People in the news vans used to use them for quick editing. they were never intended for music production in the first place. also the frequency range is wider on the MTM so I am not quite sure what you're hearing but its a preference thing anyway.

    • @okan1151
      @okan1151 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rubiooibur8534 i only say that because of what i hear. Your comment is poorly decided. Of course price is not a deciding point on choosing which mediums to mix on. You can reference a mix on ilouds, iphones, headphones and Genelecs. CLA and other tope engineers have them in their studio because they’re given them for free and a sweet little paycheque from IK Multimedia to promote them. Classifying Genelecs only for broadcasting is like classifying women are only good for sex.

I contacted customer service email, and the same person saw me through the entire process to get a replacement, including sending me a prepaid label so I’m not paying to ship the bad one back. And then she sent me a personal email to let me know when the good replacement shipped. How much better customer service do you need at that point? And yes, made in China and have more quality problems probably then Genelec but they are also half the price and that’s what I could afford and they sound amazing. Plus I already had 96 bonus dollars from a previous purchase and I did not get charge sales tax so they were $598 delivered. For the pair.
