  • This video is intended to be a practice tool to help banjo players learn the modes of rhythm over the diatonic triple stops.
    The modes of rhythm are four note sections of the three alternating rolls and the two directional rolls.
    All the diatonic triple stops are notes in G.

    Great video... but, a note to viewers in the future. You can use the settings tab to slow the video, and sound down with out changing pitch... This will allow the esteemed author to create more, and varied content. Just a suggestion.....

    Ricky, I'm so stoked on your content, thanks for asking if there is something i wanna work on, this is something your probably planning on getting to but when i talked to you a few months ago we talked about modes, i can't wait to dive in to the model double stops, i have figured a few out but your help would definently help with the puzzle. Are the Formulas for changing modes built using the same shapes from the double stop you have shown us?

    • @RickyMier
      @RickyMier  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ryan, try to use the word 'diatonic' which means of the scale. From these triple stops, you can derive three separate diatonic double stop systems by using exclusively the 1st and 2nd string, the 1st and 3rd string, and the 2nd and third string. I'm having trouble understanding your last question, but I think you're asking what is the formula to get each individual triple stop. That formula is to take a a three note shape, and move each note up a single scale degree. I hope that makes sense. Try rewording your question so I understand it a little better

      @@RickyMier cool i just learned what diatonic means🤘 so if this pattern is a diatonic pattern of ionion mode what is diatonic pattern of a lydian mode?

    • @RickyMier
      @RickyMier  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rhino4321rhino Hey Ryan, thanks for asking. TH-cam gives me inconsistent notifications about comments, I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. Ionian and Lydian are both subsets of the same scale. Diatonic means 'of a scale', Ionian and lydian are both scales, so asking what a diatonic pattern of ionian or lydian is redundant. Try asking it in a different way

    So are these scale tone triads, but starting and ending in a different spot to change modes?

    • @RickyMier
      @RickyMier  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is explained in my last video, where I show how to build this specific Diatonic Triple Stop system. The modes is referring to the Modes Of Rhythm which is explained in my second to last video

    I must be dumber than a bag of hammers. 😦 I cast this to my television and had my face right up on the screen watching your right hand, and I couldn't figure out what you were doing. Even with the T12 (and alternates) notation, I just couldn't follow along. What am I doing wrong

    • @RickyMier
      @RickyMier  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Better to follow with your ear, I'm shifting between chords and doubling the roll. Try learning all the chords up the neck first, then you'll start to hear the rolls. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, youtube has been suppressing my comments >:(
