In this video, we are taking a closer look at the GoPro Max Lens Mod for the Hero 9 Black. The Max Lens Mod does two things, it offers a wider field of view called MAX SuperView and allows for full 360-degree horizon leveling, no matter what angle your GoPro is at the horizon will always stay level. We do some FOV comparisons with the Hero 9 Black as well as comparison with the GoPro Max. At this time the Max Lens Mod is only available on the GoPro website.

360 °horizon leveling is also possible without a max lens mod. Just change resolution to 1440/60/50p, set it to linear plus horizon leveling and turn on the max lens mod.
Oh wow thank you so much, I guess we just lose the 2.7k eh? 1440 still good enough😂
What does the 60 mean
@@jonascovalesky4400 60 fps
thanks so much for this. would have been extremely helpful if I read this yesterday but now I know for the future :)
What is 50p?
Thanks for comparison, the still photos with the trees were helpful to see field of view.
Thanks for putting comparisons side by side! Very helpful
Now I know how all those cool/unique POV Rollercoaster videos are made.
Great video sean. This came up in my feed and I talked on it. Wowzers. I'm seriously thinking of getting the go pro. Loveing that magic lense as well. Wow is that cool! Once again, Awesome coverage of the PRODUCT 👌
Mikey
Great instruction and comparison. Definitely interested in modding up with this lens
Thank you so much for the comparisons 😊
Excellent video and very helpful comparisons. I'm using my GoPro Hero 9 for my biking videos and I was considering the lens Mod, but honestly, I don't like the distortions.
Thanks for opening my eyes :)
Cheers
I noticed I've been watching a bunch of your videos in the past 2-3 weeks or so. But was not subbed. Fixed that! Subbed up! Thanks for the quality info!
Thank you and welcome aboard
The tip about pulling the existing lens away from the body helped a lot. Thank you!
This is amazing, thanks for the demo. Can't wait to smooth out my terrible crooked footage.
Very helpful comparison. Thanks bro 👍
Thanks for demonstration & Sample Footage
Nice video i'm going to test vlogging with this lens, it's looks amazing!
Clear and simple. Thanks
Now I want it!!!
This is amazing!! Thank you for this
Good video
I have both of them and I use them as a dash camera on my truck, they are awesome!
Great review. Thanks!
Awesome video! Although the biggest thing I took from it is the fact go pro's image stabilization is epic
Yes it is 👍
Very good video comparison 👌
thanks for the review, i wish them had them in stock to purchase
at 4:47 it is nice to see how the camera rotates but the images remain nice and stable, I experienced this effect for the first time with the insta360 GO and I would actually like this to become the standard.
Awesome video, thank you
Thx for the information with examples, much appreciated 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. thank you.
Thank you for the video!
Well done, thank you.
good review! thanks :D
Very interesting. Great review. Cheers
Heads Up. You need to put muscle into connecting max lens. Also you will need to do the update on your camera for the Max Lens Mod to show up on the camera.
A estabilidade desta lente e top demais
that how i like you do a review bout gopro...detail, easy to understand..🔥👍👍
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it
Thats a nice review so helpful💖 hope i have that one someday❤😭
I'm impressed
Incredible review! Subscribed! 👏🏼 🙌🏼
Thank you and welcome aboard
Thank you so much
Learned a lot from your videos. I am looking to attach a better zoom lens to my hero 9 to capture surgical footage. Any suggestions?
Another good video Shaun
Thank you
great review video
I have been watching all your GoPro videos and finally noticed I wasn’t subbed lol, now I’m subbed! Can’t wait to see what happens next!
Thank you and welcome aboard
Good video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for this overview and field testing of the Lens Mod. I have been thinking about getting this, but I'm still on the fence as to how useful it will be in the type of video I take. Great video Sean.
great video
Good presentation
amazing
SUPER VIDEO !!! thanks :) M.
Thank you
amazing🤙👍
Very good content
I have a Hero 9 on order and will get the Max lens when it becomes available. My primary use is chest or chin-bar mount for mountain biking, plus the usual family stuff, swimming, snowboarding, etc. I know Max mode tops out at 2.7k. I've also seen a few examples of the Max lens in non-Max camera mode, for an exaggerated fisheye view with vignetting.
I wonder whether using the H9 in non-Max linear 5k horizon level mode, with the Max lens installed, would create a sort of bootleg horizon leveled 5k Superview with near-gimbal staiblity, with higher resolution and more ProTune options than the Max 2.7k mode. Is this something you can play with in a quick video update? Longtime viewer, keep up the good work.
Nice camera ♥️
I learned a lot
I love your video
Very nice! Your videos are very much to the point and they save me a lot of time and money by directing me to buy the most effective equipment given my application goals.I ekspecxially like your commentary on the end with regard to the tradeoffs between The Hero9 Lens Mod and and the Max. This is such valuable information. Thanks.
I have never been a fan of 360
It is always flimsy
But the editing is getting easier and easier with 360 cams
Gimbal killer, great on a boat or on a cycle for example. Well worth the wait and the money
Great video, thank you. I wasn’t sure about getting one, but out on my Lambretta it’ll be perfect.
A couple questions. If your using the mod can it be set as the default for picture and video? And second question, if your taking a picture with the mod can you zoom in? Great video. Thanks.
AWESOME REVIEW
Thank you
The Hero 9 and Max Lens mod are amazing!
Yes indeed
is it fish eye effect or normal?
Awsome video I have the GoPro max and hero 9 I love the wide Feild of view the max gives me for motorbike videos and am really debating weather to get the max lense mod for the hero 9 to give that wide pov look 👍👍
Una suscripción más. Genial vídeo..
If you don't have the max-lens attachment, but you've accidentally activated the maxlens video mode and you need to get back to standard lens mode, the instructions on doing that begins at 3. I've noticed that almost every time I'm looking for information, regardless of what it is, it will usually be about three minutes into an instructional video.
3?
Thats pretty amazing. Thanks for the Demo. Any one tried the Hero 9 on a Feiyu G6 gimbal. Is it possible to mount Hero 9 on a G6
Seems nice upgrade from my hero 960
That's Dope!!!
awesome, I came again from Bandung Indonesia
Who cares
Nice video
Great video! Do you know the field of view difference in degrees between max lens vs. No max lens?
Gopro 9 Max Lens mod should exist for all cameras in the world.
Excellent comparison; thanks! You may have saved me the cost of this mod; not so sure its worth it.
Sometimes i prefer close up lens instead super wide . I am not an action person i just like to put it on my bike and record a scene and of course take pictures as well . For me as it is is already wide enough and as i said i prefer a close up to get some details with out distortion angles . On a bike you cant carry SLR’s camera and lenses and GoPro 10 is really great . But thanks for sharing your experience and good explanation. God Bless .
Actually, 360° horizon levelling also works with normal lens. Just set Max Lens Mod and turn on Horizon Level.
Wowww nice😍
Are these the popping sound that a lot of Hero 9 seems to have? Seems to be popping on the right channel when you're walking trough those leaves
New sub here. I have been watching your vids the last couple of weeks and have been considering a Go-Pro for motorcycle riding. Some on road with friends, some off-road. The 9 seems to have better clarity, but the idea of the 360 view to catch the riders ahead and behind is intriguing. Any particular vids to break that down or recomendations? Thanks!!
Cool bro😊👍
Good one
I would definitely invest in the super max view lens mod, a wider view is always better....
Appreciate the video. I remain torn about whether this is really worth it. Didn't seem to be a huge different especially in the photograph example.
I wish there was a linear (less FOV) lens mod, but also with bigger lens, so it takes in more light, so it's better in the dark. Just the ability to use the gopro as a regular camera without reductive post-processing.
Ultimately the amount of light hitting the sensor is a function of the aperture, which is not a part of the GoPro lenses. Maybe you could do something like a speedbooster which concentrates the light, but something like that would be super bulky and infeasible for a product this small.
You could also increase the sensor size. That would absolutely improve low light performance. But bigger sensors also require bigger lenses.
I like so much this action camera for vlogging...
The new update for max lens mod, brings new resolutions, and you can change view from Supermax to wide to linear now too.
👍
Hmm can you still use 5k or 4K any view angle but still MAX lens on it yet turn off max lens mode? ( So you don't have to keep switch lens if I want to shoot 5k linear and back to MAX view ?)
Thank you !
Wow!
Wow 👍
Does it give you a wider field of view in linear mode with the lens installed?
I like it.
when walking through the woods, was the max in hero mode? the quality wasn't as good as the 9
It seems worth getting just because it fixes the barel distortion somewhat ,coming from photography to this camera i found it extremely underwhelming image wise but then I have to remind myself its a palm size camera thats virtually bomb proof
naaaaa
Just a quick tip for anyone who wants one, GoPro told me they restock all their accessories every second Sunday
Edit: people are throwing shade at this lens but I can think of loads of times who this would be helpful, especially if I have it on a pole mount so I can flip the pole round to get a better shot while keeping the horizon level
What is the horizontal field of view with the Max lens installed WITHOUT switching to Max mode? I'm wondering if it reaches 180 degrees
Nice
Might as well get a GoPro Max that does it as good as or even better and sweet 360 footages as well
Is there protective housing for the lens? I generally like to put the camera on a car.
Really nice quality of the video .Wonder what set up you have used to recorded. And what would you suggest as im doing lots of videos riding my motorcycle. So far thank you.
nice
Thank you for such a great insight and all the details. I was wondering what would happen if this mod lens could somehow be mounted on a smartphone camera. What would and would not change ? Looking forward for your thoughts. Thanks~! :)
I don’t really think that is possible but there are other options available on the market you should check out moment lenses for iPhone
@@AirPhotography I was more on the side of the stability, the horizon leveling and no-rotate image capabilities of this lens, which is why I am not referring to other lenses like Moment etc. I believe the lens itself has the capabilities to do this, or I may be wrong. My point was if this lens 'does' have the above features, would it have the same effect on a normal smartphone lens as on a GoPro ? I do have an Android smartphone with a DIY case I made for myself to mount practically any type of lenses and filters for my needs, but currently I would not be able to buy this Max Mod Lens, which is why I had the thought initially. :) Thank you for your response. :)
I have a question about my GoPro hero 9 black is that, I can't make zoom is it really no need for zoom? But some time we need zooming.
