    Really great video.
    My friend's ML430 is leaking power steering fluid like crazy. There was power steering fluid everywhere so i couldn't tell. I've cleaned the engine and need to see where it's coming from now. I thought the hoses at the radiator connection but the drip is higher up and splattering onto the radiator when the pully underneath the reservoir spins.
    I'll try the paper towel method to see if I can pinpoint.

    That was an awesome video... and great work on the process of elimination you used to pinpoint the leak! My neighbor was a head tech overseas for Mercedes and states that I have a PS fluid leak as well but says that I don't need to replace that seal since my old fluid has become so thin it is just pushing past the seal. New fluid is thicker. He brought some over and the difference between new and old fluid is pretty amazing. I might change the seal for good measure but it may not be necessary, I'm told.

      That's good to know. Can you ask him if they're any good ways of getting the old fluid out? Thanks

      @@iRepairAutos , Thanks for this PS video. I have w164 3.0 diesel but similar PS. To change the old PS fluid I drained from the return rubber house. Using 3T lifter I lifted using spot in the middle of the front suspension ON THE STEAL FRAME UNDER THE ENGINE so you can not twist or damage the suspension and your two wheels should be in the air. That way you can make FULL Left and right turns while engine OFF. You should put the return rubber line in to an old plastic bottle so you ca see fresh fluid coming on. I used MB fluid which is expensive here circa $35. Had 2 bottles but you can use one and refilled the PS tank. 1ST THING IS TO CLOSE WITH TAPE THE BOTTOM OF THE PS TANK RETURN LINE AFTER TAKING OFF THE RUBBER LINE OFF IT!!!!! Then fill to the top PS tank w NEW fluid and you make FULL LEFT AND FULL RIGHT TURNS. Keeping the return rubber line in to the bottle goes the old dirty PS fluid. This can be done UNTILL FRESH FLUID SEEN. Keep the tank full so you prevent air going into the PS!!! I made 10 or 15 Left full and right turns on one place w/ wheels In the air (easiest way for the PS system and me :) and had the system refreshed and old fluid out. Reverse procedure for the return line and it's old clip. Fill the PS system to correct level between Min and Max (TO THE COLD LEVEL MARKER WHICH I HAVE ON MY STICK COLD/HOT)while car level dripped ON GRAUND LEVEL AND make it very slowly using 5-10ml till reaching normal PS liquid level. You can easily went to the MAX AND ABOVE LEVEL w 10ml PS liquid. If you refill above MAX level you should take out some PS liquid w/ medical injection or something else!!! Start the engine and make few FULL LEFT AND FULL RIGHT TURNS ON THE JACK W/ WHEELS IN THE AIR. That way you can hear the PS pump which can make metal noise due to some air BUT if this is the case do not worry. Make L and R FULL turns and you will empty the air from the PS system. My mistakes were I dropped PS fluid from the tank due to missing closing w/ tape the bottom return hole on the tank! Also I filled over the MAX and drained some PS from the tank twice (here why you guys can use 1l only :) I hope you can flush PS system yourself and record it :) Hope info Is useful for you. Stay safe. Regards Dobi

    I have a Mercedes 2010 350e and I took it to the shop. I was smelling a burning smell and a very slight sqeak sometimes when I would turn sharp. They told me that the reservoir was empty, they filled it up and said that they could not find a leak. It's been a couple of weeks and I am starting to smell it again. Can you please give me any suggestions. Thank you

      If your reservoir has a slot for the locking ring then yes it needs one. Your jeep dealer should have that part for less than $5.00 Good luck!

    Question what if I have no leak still sounds like it not getting enough power steering when I turn it make noise? What could it be

    • @iRepairAutos
      @iRepairAutos  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It could be low on fluid. If not, it was low at one point and is now making that noise from some damage. It could also have air bubbles in the system that need to be bled out.

      +Danny Ortiz I use a flat head screw driver to reach in and pop it out. Once you get it off you will realize how easy it is to come off but much harder to get back on. Good luck (patience and determination and you will get it off and on)
