This is really helpful. I hate the ones where the guys tell you what they're going to do, and then go immediately to the completely disassembled problem without showing you how to get to it, which, for some of us, is the most difficult part. Thank you from the old ladies working on their old truck brigade.
Thank you very much. I've been looking for a video for almost 10 months that would show me how to remove and replace this part. Here in Brazil, no one does this service and shows how to do it. The workshops that perform the service charge a lot and the specialized ones are in the city of São Paulo and I live far away in the capital of Brazil in the Federal District. I didn't find anything on TH-cam. I also have a channel where I show you how to do things yourself in your car. When I go to change I will film it and give you credit for teaching me. I think your reservoir is missing a Teflon ring on the pressure hose fitting. I still haven't found this ring for sale and mine is crushed. My car is a 1995 Mustang 5.0 V8. Once again, thank you very much for filming all the steps of the work.
Dude...!!!... "Betsey LuLu "...1993 Ford f150 5.0 truck been leaking Type F fluid from the Power steering pump for 'bout a year and a half...I got the S.L.C.S....Self Lubricating Chassis System...😂😂😂...Was gonna change out the whole pump...Gonna tryn do this repair 1st...Wish me luck....😊😊
The fittings are 18mm and 24mm. I'm currently trying to find out where the power steering pump is leaking on my son's 04 taurus with the vulcan 3.0. Very good instructions, thank you
@@ijfimyes, I'm guessing it's the same part number for all the 3.0 vulcan motors. Just received the parts today and putting it back together tonight 🤞🤞🤞 Also, what is the third o-ring for in the kit? The thinnest of the two bigger ones?
This video was super helpful. I'm having a ton of trouble getting the reservoir to fit over the new o-ring (like at 9:00) though. Won't even go on with a hammer lol. It's fairly cold outside here, does that matter?
Just double and triple-check your o-ring location. SYMMETRICALLY install your reservoir over the o-ring. If you cock it sideways, it will bind up. I hope you are kidding about the hammer!
Hi, I’m seeing your video and there is a third Oring that you’re didn’t say nothing about where to put her or is like a for replacement. I hope you answer my question help a lot your video I’m working i’m from Mexico, so I doing my best with my English but thanks so much for your video help a lot
I’m wondering the same thing. What fitting are you talking about? I’ve taken the whole thing off and put it back twice and I’m not sure where that 3rd skinny o ring goes. Also now it’s making that whining noise a lot and having trouble while turning. It’s “skipping” a lot as I turn and feels very rough. Any info would be helpful. Thanks
Not that I know of. I haven’t leaked a drop since I recorded the video so o-rings are all you need. Typically 1500 psi is the threshold that teflon backup rings are required.
Hi! You helped me with the radiator last year. My issue is ONLY IN THE COLD my power steering leaks. Is this what ill need to change. Warm weather no problem. Thank you❤
I would try this repair first since it only costs around $20 for the parts. In cold weather, rubber gets less pliable so that might be why it’s leaking. Let us know if it fixes it or not during the winter months. This channel will still be here!
@@ijfim wow. You're great replying so fast! One more question please. 🤭 The factory stereo 2001 Ford ranger XLT doesn't work, fuses checked out, I pulled stereo out and couldn't find where a fuse would be...two connections disconnected Then I saw an L shape connector not sure if it's for radio. How do I test radio to see if it works? My favorite CD is in the player 😞 Two people said they'd help me check it out...that was last year. haha I can take pics if you need them Thanks for the videos!! ❤️
Sorry if didn’t reply so fast this time! Yeah, the “L” shaped connector could be the antenna. Many radios won’t work without it. Try plugging it into the hole in the back of the radio.
I took a pic. Yes I had the antenna in the correct spot but there are three plugs and only two? That fit the radio. Is there a way to upload the 2 pics? One of plugs one of radio back?
If I can push and pull the reservoir by not much but it moves and it leaks .. do I need to buy the whole pump or just the reservoir ? It doesn’t leak a lot but I was thinking it was the line and replaced that but still doing the same thing.
You'll be surprised at how many times you'll need an 18mm end wrench and/or an 18mm socket. Those are not commonly supplied in the sets, I had to purchase mine separately! I thought I wouldn't use them very often,,, WRONG!! I also have a 2015 Dodge so I had to go and buy an extra 18mm wrench, a 3/8 dr socket, and a 1/2 dr socket! Those adjustable wrenches tend to slip and round your fittings, I don't even have one in my toolbox!! Always use the right tool for the job!!
I wouldn't worry about the loose fitting. My 96 Cougar has the same pump and when I replaced the pressure hose the fitting was loose like that and same with the new one despite being tight. Neither one leaked.
There isnt an o-ring down inside the pressure fitting where the hose threads into? Im kind of stumped by mine because it is leaking from the fitting, but if you look close its not a regular pressure fitting. The hose side is beveled like a hydraulic fitting, while the female side is machined flat. There is no way for the hose and fittings to mesh like a hydraulic fitting.
Are you sure all the parts are correct? Sounds like it shouldn’t have worked from the start? Maybe your pressure hose is built as a 2-piece connector somehow and one of the pieces fell off when you disconnected it?
@@ijfim thanks for replying. I actually just posted a video on my page about it if you want to see what I'm talking about. I came up with a novel solution to fix it that seemed to work very well. Unless someone took the thing apart before I got the truck it appears to all be there. Also it seems like a pretty prolific problem bc there are tons of forum post about it, and all trucks I've seen at the junk yard leak right there.
If you located in the U. S., you can got to Lowe's or Home Depot in the "Hardware Section "....Gonna need the old ones to get close to right size...Otherwise, Amazon sells this whole kit he showed...The part number is in the vid description...Otherwise, its "Hit and Miss " for the correct size...
The problem I have is I have the 3.0 2000 XLT and my power steering is built into a large bracket that the AC sets on. I don’t think I can even sneak a puller in between the radiator and pulley. It’s nice that your power steering pump is exposed like that. My reservoir extends up under that mounting bracket so I am still not sure the easiest way to go about this. Timing chain videos show this.
@noexcusesmakeithappen9871 no leaks at all! My pump makes noise, but it still works fine. Not a single drop since the repair. Just make sure you take it slow to line everything up properly.

Nice one. I made the mistake of adding regular power steering fluid in my '04. They call for mercon ATF.

great video! this shows me exactly what i need to do on my 89. came here to see if i could do it myself and looks pretty easy😁
Really was easy, just make sure you don’t pinch the big o-ring when you are maneuvering the new reservoir into place.

The Ranger uses ATF Mercon (updated to Mercon V) for the power steering fluid. Need to bleed the air out of the lines.
Any tip for getting the reservoire back on without killing the pump o ring ? It keeps getting cramped everytime i push the reservoir back on
Plenty of lube and symmetry of connection. Is the key. Lubricate o ring for best slippage.

Never mind I saw your reply on another comment. I was thinking it might go in that valve but not sure where to put it.
Are there supposed to be teflon seals that go btw the fitting and the reservoir and one btw the high pressure hose and the fitting?? Thank you!

Hopefully there’s plenty of room to work since it is a larger truck. Good luck!

11/16 fits perfect i say this because 90% of wrench sets don't have 18mm included

Great step by step. Sorted out my 85 bronco's leaking pump. What is the 3rd O ring for?
No idea about third o-ring. Possibly that valve with the spring pressure behind it.
I was going to ask the same question. I got a 90 with a 2.9
What is the name of the little valve you replaced those two black o-rings?
Not sure, might be called an “orifice,” or “reducer,” or “adapter”

You don't have to remove the compressor. I've changed these many times and NEVER removed the compressor.
How much did that kit cost
Roughly $20 at any auto parts store
This fit ford ranger 3.0 xlt 00?
I think so, it fits like 30 years of ford vehicles. Check with autozone app to see if it’s the same part number

@steveo782812 same part number but different access? The 2.5 Ranger is good in that aspect, lots of access.
11:50 That fitting is PURE EVIL!
pump sounds sick, take the damn thing out to pasture and put it out of its misery.
They all sound like that! Still strong!
On my 83, if you use anything other than Type F in the pump, it’ll whine like that.
