"I'm a loner, but I'm kind of a people person, too". Yeah, that really is good. Great song & video. The words are sad, but the music is uplifting. I'm 76, and I keep on playing this song over & over. I think this song appeals to all age groups.
This is one thing with the Vampire Weekend and almost all of their albums; I don't understand 90% of their songs but it always makes my heart warm inside. Like my heart gets it. My ears, never.
This whole album has got to be one of the best records that I have heard in a while... Great stuff Vampire Weekend... This song takes me to my happy place, even though the lyrics are quite the contrary... ;)

Such beautiful looking people in this music video. Every single one of them looks beautiful in their own way. I love living in such a beautifully diverse world! 💕😍
I just love this song! I've had it on the playlist on our catering truck here in Los Angeles for 3 months and it just doesn't get old. Gotta be that twangy guitar and reverb!
FINALLY! A music video that matches the vibe of the song. I liked the visions I got in my head, but this is even better. Just in time for summer too! Thanks for another song in the soundtrack of my life!
This just means you don't know how to socialize properly to get into relationships so you feel like a loner, but your need for relationships calls for you to interact with people.
@@ontemp ha, no, not exactly at least... more like, you're a loner *because* there haven't been truly decent/great people in your life, some who really understand you and are willing to support you through life and be mature about it (not like most people, who are too selfish and spoiled for that), so you feel very lonely even for a loner and even though you've been capable of enjoying your time alone just fine and usually prefer(red) to do so... but you can't continue like that (you feel like something is missing, as a social animal), you've just missed hanging out with friends and socializing with ppl who deserve your time and actually want to spend time with you (most are just focused on their little lives, stupid career, money, etc.). So, in other words, you are a loner by choice or circumstance (=lack of social skills or lovely people), or both, and/or you're complex enough to want to spend your time alone *and* with some people, because you're... human. p.s. I don't necessarily feel in a way similar to this, but I probably do. Also, I kind of confused myself writing this at a certain point, but hopefully it makes perfect sense and seems relatable at least to someone. If not, I'm confused but unique😏 p.p.s. being a "ppl's person" doesn't mean _any_ ppl's person, right? It just means you can be social (personally, sometimes I can, sometimes I'd rather not or flat out can't, depends on how confident I feel at a given moment/day).
@@hawkstrike18 Nobody gets along with everybody, but you'll get a long with somebody as long as you express who you are. You may think you're unique but you're human with the same needs as everybody else, so somebody is going to relate to you. If you can't find compatible people, it's because you're not expressing who you are to enough people. Express who you are to 20 people you might not find chemistry. Express who you are to 200 people, you're bound to find someone you have good chemistry with.
Great song! I just started hearing this song on the local alt music radio station. The guitar sounds a lot like Johnny Marr's piece in 'This charming man' by the Smiths.
For years, this song has always been so sunny to me... and now 4 years later, some of the lyrics just suddenly hit completely different, and the sadness and pain in there just bled through.... such a good song, such a good band.
If anyone is listening to this song in 2032, I might not be alive. But if you find your way to this comment, I would want to say, thanks for existing and thanks for living. I can't be more grateful to this life. And, I love you Pranamika.
Baby, I know pain is as natural as the rain I just thought it didn't rain in California Baby, I know love isn't what I thought it was 'Cause I've never known a love like this before ya Baby, I know dreams tend to crumble at extremes I just thought our dream would last a little bit longer There's a time when every man draws a line down in the sand We're surviving, we're still living I was stronger You've been cheating on, cheating on me I've been cheating on, cheating on you You've been cheating on me But I've been cheating through this life And all its suffering Oh Christ, Am I good for nothing? Baby, I know hate is always waiting at the gate I just thought we locked the gate when we left in the morning I was told that war is how we landed on these shores I just thought the drums would all be loud warnings You've been cheating on, cheating on me I've been cheating on, cheating on you You've been cheating on me But I've been cheating through this life And all its suffering Oh Christ, am I good for for nothing? Baby, I know death probably hasn't happened yet 'Cause I don't remember living life before this And darling, our disease is the same one as the trees Unaware that they've been living in a forest You've been cheating on, cheating on me I've been cheating on, cheating on you You've been cheating on me But I've been cheating through this life And all its suffering Oh Christ, am I good for nothing? "Darlin' our disease is the same one as the trees, unaware that they've been livin' in a forest" is probably my favorite line off this album
Mine has to be “baby, I know death probably hasn’t happened yet, because I don’t remember living life before this”
What does that mean though?
"And I was told that war was how we landed on these shores, I just thought the drums of war beat louder warnings" hit me hard
