@@michaeldiehl2458 The way he delivers the line 'what were you a drummer boy you must have been 10 years old?' is so funny. Douglas by all accounts you would've predicted not to have turned out to be a truly brilliant actor. He was born to insane wealth, and to a legendary icon. By all accounts you'd expect him never to be able to replicate or in some ways outshine his father. Yet he did. He's superb in this, and all around has a superb resume.

@@patriceaqa288 You are absolutely right. He evolved. To be honest, in my opinion Michael Douglas really wasnt great in ''streets of san francisco'' , and he wasnt even great in Basic Instinct, in my opinion. Probably because of his weatlh, and in which situation he was born, he didnt needed to be good as actor... but then he got passion for acting .. real passion, and probably he got even good advices from his father all the time. Both things helped. He clearly saw his acting more and more serious with the years, and got better and better. In this movie ''Falling Down'' he is really top notch!

@@prince-solomon the film never got the recognition it deserved because of when it was released. This was dangerously close to the timeline of the L.A riots, civil unrest was rife. Some of it was even filmed near riot spots. The story of an angry white male lashing out against urban society was not subject material people in hollywood were too keen on. Just another reason not to give money to bums, he gave him his lunch and the bum threw the food back at him because he wanted cash for drugs. Junkies are often thin as a stick because they have no appetite. I used to give donations to the Bowery Mission and I stopped after reading their newsletter called the red door which showed pictures of residents at the Mission and in their own word they revealed how they became homeless:drugs, over 99% percent. MirrorDimly that was exactly the point. People like this bum are leeches. They want all the reward without putting in the work. The problem is is that this behavior has been normalized. If u say that the bum was an ungrateful piece of shit, people look at u sideways because u have no compassion. Compassion went out the door the day U decided to lead a life of debauchery. Not saying people don't lose jobs & are down on their luck but more times than not a job provides severance, then u get unemployment, & hopefully u have saved a little for hard times. All those savings are to give u time to next job. During that time maybe u go back to school for a 2 year degree or if u get a good severance, a 4 year degree. I have no patience for people that don't make the effort. Nether should our government.

My Grandfather who actually did serve in Vietnam has told stories exactly like this, of bums begging for money or posing as vets trying to get money from the VA. And a common theme was how young they were. I think bums were just trying to capitalize on the controversy of the war and the newfound sympathy towards vets and understanding of PTSD.

So, they told the baby-eating marauding primates that if they didn't stop being evil scum, that the sun would swallow up the Earth. It worked. Even you, in your abject ignorance, are shaped by the ethic instilled by religion whether you like it or not. All your notions of right and wrong, you didn't conceive of them. They were conceived for you and instilled in you.
See, if there is no God, then there is no objective morality. And if there is no objective morality, then you have absolutely zero basis for even indicting religion - any religion at all that ever existed (though I'm sure Christianity is the one you despise most. Always is with Western atheists) - as there is no such thing as right and wrong, just your emotionally driven opinions. Hell, you don't even have a basis for declaring that controlling you remedial primates, by any means, is wrong. All you can do is declare that you don't like it, and that's absolutely meaningless in the Godless universe you believe in.

I am an aerospace engineer and I was taught by a a roomful of guys that look just like him. In fact one told me I would never make it in aerospace because I had an earring. That is what makes this movie a masterpiece along with dialog like in this scene. My mom, knowing how they scam you on the street, said she can go inside and buy him something and what he wanted. The guy was super thankful and said he was happy with anything. My mom went in and bought him stuff that would keep him fed for a few days without going bad and some stuff like ham and bread. The guy was so happy, kept thanking her. It was during a winter in Poland and winters there are known for being deadly to homeless people, so it feels nice knowing someone helped him. When a homeless person asks you for food, just ask if they want food and are willing to wait for you while you get it. It'll be pretty obvious when they'll be after money for alcohol/drugs.

Years ago at a store I worked at, this dude comes in and didn't directly ask for money but said he would do anything we needed at the store like cleaning, tanking out the trash, etc as long as we could pay him some cash. My manager (a really great guy) explained he couldn't do that for insurance reasons. The dude kept begging and saying he had not eaten in days so my boss went out to his car and gave him all the change he had in his ashtray which was actually a lot- maybe $7 or $8. A few hours later I stop at a ransom gas station to get fuel before I go home and lo and behold who is in line buying a couple of 32 oz beers? Same guy.

I remember a buddy of mine collected a bunch of cans/foods (probably enough food for a week) and the guy said "Ehhh I dont want peanut butter, or this, or that. I already got 6 jars of that".. He then took the box and stashed it some place. In about 20 mins he was back with his sign on the side of the road.
I sadly realized that this is a job for some people.

That drilling of construction work near the end of this scene is really haunting. People are building yet everything around them is in a state of decay. Nobody notices the loud banging chipping away at their sanity. They think it's normal.

He also was holding a sandwich when he said that, said he drove from Santa Barbara without a car or license, and served in Nam as a kid and later in the Gulf War.

Uh, Kelly, he was L-Y-I-N-G. Homeless people make up that bullshit all the time. They think it fools people. They don’t want food - they could get food at any of dozens of shelters or church missions. They want money. Why do they want money? Because they want DRUGS.

This scene represents society’s battle of employed vs. fake homeless aka cockroaches. You see them on every street corner with their fake signs and begging for money while walking in new Jordan’s and having a designer backpack and jacket. If you stay with them long enough, you can see the car they came in. Later in the week, you might even see them having a beer and steak dinner outside the ballpark in a nice restaurant. 💯

My dad told me about this couple that had been begging at a highway on ramp for 20 years. He said he'd given money to them a couple times. One day, when traffic was terrible, he took a side street. He saw that same couple enter and drive away in a Porsche sports car...

I was approached by two guys once wearing clean leather jackets and shiny bling asking me and my co-workers for change then one of them wanted to get a bite of my Subway sandwich. These guys were not homeless just two lazy punks on welfare and refuse to work.
