Logan's Run: Selected Scenes '76

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 1 เม.ย. 2017
  • This exhibitors reel was shown in 1976 on:
Jan 13th at the MGM Owners Meeting at MGM studios in Hollywood.
Mar 2nd at the ShoWest/NATO (National Association of Theatre Owners) Convention in San Diego.
Jun 12th at the "Star Trek Convention" at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts.
The intended audience was theater owners and industry professionals. The goal; to convey the plot of the film in a condensed format. Since it was not intended to be seen by paying audiences, it includes a number of what would be considered "spoilers." It also contains clips from deleted scenes, as well as alternate camera angles of familiar sequences from the film. Logan's Run would not be released theatrically until June 1976, therefore the music heard is from Ice Station Zebra since Jerry Goldsmith had not yet finished recording the Logan's Run score.
Never issued on any home video format, Selected Scenes '76 is scanned directly from a vintage 35mm film print. Unfortunately the Eastmancolor turned very magenta over the years, so an attempt was made at restoring the proper color. A comparison between the raw scan and restored color can be viewed here: • Logan's Run: Selected ...

The quality of Star Wars compared to Logans Run has nothing to do with the fact the movies are only 12 months apart.
It's more to do with the genius of George Lucas at the time. (regarding Sci-fi)
There were other genius directors such as Kubrick - with 2001.
Spielberg was to follow a few years with his classics
Ridley Scott would have been prepping for the superlative Alien around the time Logans
      Run was released.
The Masterful Blade Runner was only 6 years after this.
Sci-fi masterpieces are not only way ahead of their time but *also* stand the test of time.
The rule is not necessarily movies get better as the years increase. Logans run would always be inferior even if it was released say, two years - after Star Wars is what I'm saying.

Before that it was someone from X-Men. And so on...and so on. The only studio that has the right attitude right now is Marvel. Jennifer Lawrence as Jessica 6. I think it's because the sexual revolution of the late 60s was still fresh in memory. I think in the 70s they probably thought women in the future would feel even more comfortable with nudity and their sexuality. But nowadays it has actually gone backward. People are less free than we used to be. Some SJWs / 3rd wave feminists these days even promote the 'right' for muslim women to wear a burqa or Niqab, instead of trying to free them from it. That says it all I think.

Read the book, saw the movie and lived them both! One of my all time favorites. The DS pistol is next coolest thing to a lightsaber. Got those two on you and you'll never be bullied again, that's for sure. I remember the t.v. show too with Gregory Harrison. Not as good but still a classic. Strange how science fiction has a way of becoming science fact. I hope this isn't the way of the future! Unfortunately, it very well may be. A.I. is a frightening thing and it's becoming more and more prevalent every day. A great story though. 'The life clocks have no power outside the city. We're free'. Probably because WiFi still hasn't been perfected yet - 300 years on!

@Michael Murphy ... Well-put, Michael. I saw the film in-theatre, I was 25 at the time. My stoner friends and I got properly tuned up to see it, and we thought it was terrific. I'd been to the 1964 World's Fair in Flushing Meadow, NY when I was 13, and I'd been on one of the biggest ride-through "Future World" attractions there (it was in the Ford Motor Co. pavillion). This ride took me through an amazing forced-perspective series of miniature cities, which resonated perfectly with the film's travelling shots of the extensive miniatures they used.

@mark griffiths ... LOL, I saw *Ice Station Zebra* in full (by now) classic Cinerama 3:1 projection format, and the film was so bad, I just settled for getting off on the occasional stunning ultra-widescreen visuals. But as for the theme from *Ice Station Zebra,* it should have got an Oscar (c) for *MOST OVERPLAYED THEME DURING A FILM THAT SOMEHOW MANAGED NOT TO KILL THE AUDIENCE.*
So, when it managed to sneak up and get me *again* for the shown *Logan's Run* trailer, a shudder of genuine fear swept through me ... "Good GRIEF, this thing is like 'The Blob'. It's got loose ... it's starting to show up *EVERYWHERE, AGGGGGHHHHH!!! ... .*

You guys I saw this in the theatre, during a tornado warning in Cheyenne, Wyoming, it was understaffed there for obvious reasons; so I could get away with sitting through it a couple of times.
Whereas the futuristic aspect was really something back then, perhaps on par w/ Space 1999, the whole notion of confused computer=entire city pitches over into ceaseless explosions left me credulous at best, second time seeing it it was hard eye-rolls time!
Just because the municipal control system got confused or confounded doesn’t mean everything goes kabluwey, that’s just bad writing even a 9 y/o could see right through
