I was an extra when they filmed in Dallas; was 16 and was cast as a "green." The experience was great but the costume was awful. Very thin cheap polyester. It was summer, but air-conditioning was cranked so high that all women were freezing. Men had more substantial outfits, and didn't have the "no underwear" requirement for some reason. We were allowed to bring a sweater to wear in-between scenes. I had a one-shoulder toga design with gold belt and gold bracelet on my upper arm. The hardest part was walking in those slippers. They didn't have any traction on bottom--literally just polyester fabric with elastic. Made if difficult to run in the panic scenes as floors were slick. Talk about a fun summer job!

There wouldn't be any reason for men to have a "no underwear" requirement when wearing pants. Many women, even during restrictive times, go to clubs in dresses or skirt without any underwear. Today many Hollywood women are once again prancing around in little outfits with nothing underneath. It is not to difficult to imagine a time, probably in the not-too-distant future, where society restrictions lessen and women will be wearing some toga like outfit without underwear. What women wear usually has no relation to what men are or aren't doing.

    • @Renemoon6
      @Renemoon6 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

@@stickman1742 My friends and I went to clubs a lot back in the day and never went without underwear. I have young nieces now who also have no desire to go sans undergarments when out with friends. Celebrities are rarely representative of the general public. Believe it or not, many guys didn't wear underwear in the late 60s and throughout 70s--in keeping with the sexual revolution as well as a more laid-back attitude. So Logan's Run wasn't actually conforming to the times by costuming men more modestly than women. That was just the Hollywood double standard, but in real life it was different.

My first thought exactly. Although York didn't want to do the movie initially, her inclusion in the cast was a stroke of inspiration. Any red-blooded human male...or female for that matter...over the age of 50 would agree. Farrah notwithstanding, Agutter was the preeminent starlet of the film. Loved her in that unexpected role in the episode of HBO's Dream On as Martin's weekly love interest, and in An American Werewolf In London---both tongue-in-cheek roles which were not usually a part of her repertoire.

Logan’s DS gun was an actual working prop. The flame that comes out of the barrel is real. So is the sound it makes. It is basically a blowtorch in it’s function. The tube at the rear of the gun holds a piece of calcium carbide and a couple of CC’s of water which combined form acetylene gas. The trigger opens a valve which releases the gas that hits a red hot glow plug in the barrel igniting the gas making the flame and sound. A few shavings of magnesium gave the flame its greenish colour

One of the most memorable scenes in the movie for myself was when Logan was "reviewing" his "entertainment choices" for the evening and another guy got transported in and gave Logan the eye. He chuckles to himself and sends the guy on his way like it was no big deal. It was one of the very few overt homosexual references in 70's genre media that didn't have a tragic outcome for the character. WAY ahead of its time! Interestingly enough I don't think I've ever seen a cut of the film here in the States that excised it even back in 70's & 80's.

Except, she certainly had no issue cashing the checks and even going to Star Trek conventions. And people act like that was the 20th century and things are different now. Err, no. There are just as many movies/shows now with skimpy outfits and even nudity. If anything, the amount of female nudity is going back up. All shows have to do is have a guy show his ass, and they can put all the female nudity in it they want because of equality. (Not complaining).

Its not surprising that there was lots for “free love” as the authors also had written for Playboy. I was 12 when it came out. They re-released the book for the movie. Weird thing is there was a Catholic book club for parochial schools that listed the book to buy. That’s where I bought and read it. It was much more graphics than the movie. My guess is someone at the book club had no idea what was in it.

It's hard not to see a movie about aimless pretty people, who indulge in free love until they hit 30 and then everything's all over for them as a kind of cultural commentary given it's a 70's movie.

The movie came out in 1976, the I graduated from high school. Coincidentally, in my senior year, I was taking a film art class and was doing movie making. Back then there was no such thing as digital photography, and working from Super8 film was a nightmare.
This movie had one innovative feature that is often overlooked. I think this was THE VERY FIRST movie to use holograms in it. They were the "multiplex" type. However, the difficulty in making them and the limits of their applications made them impractical.

I am not a designer but rather a technician. I have to work with a designer because I honestly can't come up with the ideas that a true designer does. I do work with a designer locally for our regional theater groups, thankfully. She creates the designs and the looks for our characters in whatever show we're doing together and I make them happen. Once I get a template, I'm good. Seeing how others achieve this always interests me so, yeah, I love that you posted this video for us.

@@Costume_CO Yea of course but even then the film sill has a certain indi quality to it. The reason is I believe is that audiences are more sophisticated and much more unforgiving of visual effects then they once were. At least you'd be forgiven for thinking that. Then you watch the latest Star Wars movies where they've brought back some really poor looking costume based alien creations into the franchise purely because it was what fans wanted. having said that they were a niche audience and this doesn't really speak to movies on the whole. If this film were released today with the same cast as they were then of course, I don't think they'd need to do a whole lot to it as the story is great and it's not really an effects based extravaganza like say a Star Wars or Star Trek type move where people go to be visually amazed. I'd put this in the same category as Planet of the Apes or Soilent Green.

I think Jenny is more classic looking and Fara's style is more of her time. Had she been born 30 years later, Jenny would have been offered every "elf" role going.

Farah's best features were her fantastic figure and hair.. without those she probably wouldn't have been considered any great beauty. Also, Jenny Agutter's voice contributed to her level of attractiveness.

Years ago I bought a Sandmans blaster movie prop. It still had some scoring on the barrel from the charges placed there. Still one of my favorite things to look at, and indispensable if you go costumed.

Sorry to say no. I was a club DJ back in the 80s and 90s, and I did a lot of dances at Sci Fi and Fantasy conventions. I left some personal effects along with a ton of Vinyl under the table that held my equipment, complerely out of sight because of the table cloth. In one night someone snuck into the ballroom and stole everythig. The blaster, my Sandman tunic, and over 100 records. Broke my heart.

I read the book, & when I watched the movie I have zero memory of the movie. I only remember the girl's dress. This TH-cam video is a cool refreshing retro, but it's also beautifully tongue-in-cheek...

After viewing your video, I now know where the idea for Victoria's Secret came from. After seeing this movie at a local theater, I had a delightful dream. I was a member of the Removal Squad. Our mission was to remove lady's bras, put them in a pile, and destroy them with our laser pistols. Shucks' I never had that dream again.

Think about this. How beautiful was Jenny Agutter? Farrah Fawcett was in this movie and she was the second prettiest woman in the film. That is how much of a beauty Jenny Agutter was.

The scene where Jessica joins a group of fellow potential runners to plot Logan’s demise was filmed in the lobby of the World Trade Center in Dallas. I used to work in the building next door and would walk over to the Trade Center for lunch. It was quite a lark eating in the same spot where that infamous gathering took place. I even thought about dressing as a Sandman on Halloween, but chickened out.

Jenny Agutter ranks up with Debbie Harry, Agnetha from ABBA and Louise Jameson (Leela from Dr Who) as my childhood crushes. I remember watching Walkabout at school in the early 80's because we was reading it and trust me for once the boys behaved.

I remember when this came out and dreaming about dressing like the characters in the movie. I had a thing about colors that either matched or complemented each other, my only change was going to be boots that matched the color of the tights/leggings for the men and sandals for the women.
I still think that this is a wonderful carefree movie.
