Once you have engine out and a 6 months build ahead, go for the full monty man, you'll be so happy later to not have to take it apart again and just focus on mainteinance, improvements and driving it. If you are doing forged pistons, conrods and such, might as well get a scrapyard 1.6 CVH and have two engines, one stock (the original one) and a fully built one. Also keep it original externally if you can, there's loads of improvements you can still do in brakes suspension and such while having it look stock, and the age of these cars being cosmetically tuned is already past IMO. Restomod FTW!
Great advice cheers mate
Standard cam is fine for over 200hp as long as you have good oil pressure .. also I'd forge it and re fresh all the gaskets and seals whilst it's already out . More power = more strain / heat
Matt talks sense , follow his advice.
@benerst10 yes he does
For a solid 200bhp, Piper Cam, solid lifters, decent remap, bigger intercooler, full stainless system and approx 17psi of boost will get you there on the std blower and std management system. Further than that on the 1.6cvh then its bigger turbo, big valve head etc
Thanks mate
Newman cams are the way to go with a cvh 👍🏻
Yeah so I’ve been told, I’ve been thinking about putting a 2.0 zetec in next year anyway
Hey mate,
as I'm in kind of the same situation at the moment I will tell you which way I'm going with my engine:
- forged Wiseco Pistons in 80.5
- forged H-beam rods
- all new bearings
- 276° cam from dbilas (german company well known with Opel enthusiasts)
- T3 upgrade turbo with 40/42 A/R
- bigger intercooler
- 2,5" Powersprint stainless exhaust
- EFI with ECUmaster Emu classic
My goal is to reach a reliable 200 - 220 PS, although most of the time I will drive it on the actuator with lower boost and approx 140 PS.
Please keep in mind that high power ratings put a lot of strain on the BC5 Gearbox, it won't take this for too long.
If you can get your hands on an IB5 box out of a MK7 1.4 Escort (because of cable clutch and starter in the front) go and get it! They are much sturdier and your LSD will fit right in!
Kind regards from Germany!
Sorry, I made a mistake! The Turbo is 42/48 A/R!
That sounds like a wicked build mate!!!!
Are you documenting it I’d love to follow the journey
@@Simonstockton82 Besides YT I am not on any social media. I thought about filming parts of the build, but I'm just a mechanic with no clue how to edit a video 😄 Maybe I'm giving it a shot anyways.
As for your engine, since you are sourcing parts from the UK I would recommend a Kent CVH35 cam with hydraulic lifters or a Newman FORC/276 Cam with their solid lifters. Keep your hands off the Piper cams, we had lots of trouble with them in the past.
And please uprate the conrod bolts to ARPs 151-6004 bolts. In my experience the conrod bolts are the weakest spot in the cellar of the CVH.
@juppzmuda9725 I’m just a video editor/social media marketing expert trying to figure out how to be a mechanic, we should team up 😂😂😂
@@Simonstockton82 😂😂👍👍 That would be a productive and fun way to do these projects!
Think a refresh wouldn't hurt whilst it's out new rings bearings the cam will probably need replacing too don't need a angle gauge just put some tipex on bolt and turn it 90 degrees
You may be right 🤔
Do a zvh swop 1.8 or 2.0 then you can leave the cvh engine for going back to standard if you ever wanted to
That is an option but I won’t put it back to standard and I do like the CVH for period correct.
Maybe a zetec later down the track through, I’ll never say never and I have looked into it a few times
That’s why I said zvh for the standard look instead of the full zetec swop
I think they do 180 with standerd cam best one to get is a newman stay away from solid lifters unless u get roller rockers tend to rip the stud out for the rocker arm ,i would send the engine as is untill somthing fails then do full build 👍
Ah legend thanks man thats what I thought hey.
I'd just change the head gasket whilst you have the engine out..
Just stuff a V8 in it- it already makes the power you want.
Hahahaha
