Mercedes-Benz service manual disagrees
You don’t have to do any of this crap lol just change the pads and press the caliper. You barely push any fluid back
If you ever have to add brake fluid, or really any fluid on a vehicle and you didn't just replace parts of that system, you've got a problem. Fix the problem., don't top-off fluids.
LOL. I've done break many time on different model cars and have never had my master cylinder over flow from compressing the calipers!
live in north rust belt good luck with backing bleeder off if its even there from corrosion
Unless you're topping off the brake fluid all the time, which isn't needed unless the system is leaking, there is enough room for fluid to go back into the reservoir when the piston is compressed back into the caliper. Get your info right dude...don't put out bogus content. I've been doing brakes for 40+ years and the only time I've ever had fluid run out is when someone topped off the reservoir for no reason.
Never did any of this no problems.
And you will break the inside of brake hose that will be a problem at a future time,, not a good idea
All this for brake pads ?
this is completely overkill just use a c clamp
sorry but sometime the client add some fluid to top off the system and you will need to open it to remove the excess fluid if you do a brake job at all the wheel
Correct. It would seem this level of common sense escapes most people here lol 😆
The only way fluid will ever come out the reservoir is if it was over filled. Always take the cap off when pressing in the piston. And you will never have to bleed the brake system unless you open a bleeder valve, or break a line.
this is like doing brakes with extra steps
Maybe if you are stupid and have a massively over filled master cylinder. Most people however, do not.
Don't pinch rubber lines...period. No explanation required.
In nearly 30 years of doing brakes I've never had fluid come out.
I did this when i was a wee mechanic. Destroyed the inner parts to the flexy line. Had to do a brake flush when i replaced the flexy line a few days later. Luckily noone was injured from the improper repair i did where i damaged a flexy line. Now what i do, is if the reservoir looks like someone topped it off, i just suck some out before doing the brake job so it doesnt overflow, unless the customer wants a brake flush, in which case, it doesnt matter.
I've been doing it this way for over a decade and haven't damaged any flexi lines same as my 60 year old father inlaw who has been doing it this way for 30 odd years... you must of had bad luck
@@Simonstockton82 guess I did. I won't risk it again though. Lol.
@Embarassmental that's fair mate
WRONG! Unless the master was overfilled when the last brake job was done, or from the factory, it won't magically gain more.
Correct!!!! How smart of you to realise that lol, now stop and think maybe that's what happened with this vehicle 🤣🤣🤣
@@Simonstockton82 maybe do a better job of explaining. nearly all of these comments told you that you were wrong lol because you are.
There is a reason you bleed your brakes cause the fluid is hygroscopic and needs to be replaced quite often but most people don't and wonder why there brakes feel shit.....also use the correct break in procedure its not just pumping your brakes btw
Yes very true, brake fluid needs to be changed. Mine was changed by the dealer less than 10,000km ago.... also I never said anything about breaking in the new pads, don't put words in my mate mate
This is actually the way i was trained to do it, By clamping off the brake line and pushing the pistons back the way you did, there is no possible way for any impurities or "shit and corruption" to travel back up the brake line and potentially lead to a hose or line becoming blocked.
Yeah haha I figured as much. Social media is full of "experts" thanks for the support brother appreciate it 👍
Good work mate 😊
Cheers mate. Hope you're well over there
Well the system is closed and should never require additional fluid . If the fluid is low then you should look to worn pads or a possible leak. After the break job the compression of the calipers will push the break fluid back into the master bringing the fluid back to normal . Never add fluid to the master unless you are doing flush and fluid exchange. If the master overflows during a break job it’s because someone added fluid thinking it was low.
Absolutely mate spot on and that's exactly what happened here, the Toyota dealer I bought it from did a full fluid change on everything, replaced the rotors but not the pads and filled it up to Max 🤡
Use a $1 turkey baster to remove fluid from master cylinder
That's a good idea. Some would argue problems pushing brake fluid through the ABS system backwards but I don't know if that would cause problems so I'll just do it this way
@@Simonstockton82some would be wrong about that.
Never pinch brake hose. Likely won't damage anything but it can and we are talking about a BRAKE hose. It can damage the hose inside.
Nope. If you use the correct tools it won't damage it. If you use vice/mole grips then sure you will probably damage it. Brake hose clamps have been specifically designed for this job mate
Why would fluid come out unless the system is over filled?
Some service centres top up brake fluid to the Max line and if the pads are really low then it will overflow when you push the calipers back
Maybe the video should be about making sure your vehicle is properly serviced instead of piling dumb on top of stupid.
@jaredpierce8477 now that wouldn't create even half as much controversy and get half as much views would it. I didn't own the vehicle when it was serviced so your opinion is irrelevant 🤷
I can’t even push my pistons back without a special tool 😂 it’s so stupid engineering but hey, what am I gonna do
Haha dang
Just suck some fluid out of the master 😂
Hahaha I was all out of mcdonalds straws mate 🤣
Yes that’s what I do it’s way easier
1st time I have heard Fiesta ST brakes called "big".
Hhaha and they aren't even the turbo brakes 🤣🤣🤣
I bought a bunch of packs of 10mm & just went around hiding them. Now I find them on accident almost exactly when I need them. 🤣
Hahaha this is gold
Where the hell do 10mm wrenches and sockets even go?🤷♂️. Almost like pens back in school
I think the same place our socks go mate
No, cause you'll start losing 12mm sockets, but I'm sure plenty others have told you this already, lol.
Hahaha yeah bro, some one said 14 is their common one and they lost the 14 😂 murpheys law hey?
14 is usually the main size bolt that I run into. And for some damn reason I don't have a 14 ratchet or I don't have a 14 socket I don't have a 14 box I don't have a 14 open. Why.
Haha probably lost them all. I have 3 sets of spanners and I've lost a 13 from each one at least once, don't get started on how many 10mm sockets I've lost
Bolts aren’t interchangeable like that ☠️☠️
If the length, thread and pitch are the same they are
The confidence is admirable.
Alright bro, car is getting there slowly, my exhaust was in similar condition when I cleaned it up, if you get some autosol and a pad for a combi drill you’ll be amazed how shiney you can get it to look 😎
Cheers mate. Not sure if I will haha
But then who knows you might start losing your 12 mm sockets😂😂
Hahaha that would be about right
This car is an absolute beauty. I’m From the Uk and moved to the Sunshine Coast around 2 years ago. Good friend of mine back home has a couple of these. Getting very rare for such clean examples what a beauty. I would love to see it in the flesh one day.
Hopefully you do get to see it soon mate
Im on the Sunny coast too! Pretty sure I a saw this car at Bad Ideas last year, first one Ive ever seen in person
@bmcshane80 yeah mate that was me I remeber that show, I thought I was going to over heat in the cue to get in and then they put me right in the front over everyone lol
Fantastic. We are here to support you! Keep up the good work. P.s. I'm still getting used to the new look.😂
Ahahaha I'm not sure if I like it hahaha I kinda wanna grow the beard back
Do it. Take a photo every day for a year of the journey. There's a video right there. @@Simonstockton82
Congratulations bro it's about time you got paid for doing TH-cam. Looking forward to future videos.. thank you for sharing the cost of importing a vehicle that's a lot of money but got no choice if you want the car, your lucky to get a 4 owner car I didn't think there were any that low with the age of these cars. Mines got 14 bit high but i love the car plus i over paid for mine as well, fell for the guys sob story but won't happen again.. £14k i paid and spent aɓout another £6k on top and still needs more doing to it.. we live and learn don't we.. Well mate good luck with Your TH-cam journey..
Thanks brother yeah it was a pretty lucky find for sure!
supercheap has boot struts for ya
Yo serious? You got a part number?
@@Simonstockton82 Try Gas Struts Australia for good struts. Bought mine years ago and no problems
Can’t believe it came out of N Ireland ,lve probably seen it at shows before it left here.
Probably mate he used to take it to shows
@@Simonstockton82 small world eh
Is asbestos testing a Australian requirement?
Yeah mate they fine huge amounts if they find it in the car and it's compulsory to have older cars tested because of how they used to use asbestos in clutches and gaskets
Awesome work bro! Wow I had no idea there were so many extra costs importing a car 😳
Honestly bro neither did I hahah but I am considering importing a mk3 cab hahaha
@@Simonstockton82 nice! mk3 Supra? with the 7MGTE. My first car was a 89 Toyota Soarer with a 7MGTE motor 😎
Hahaha no sadly not. However a mk3 supra with 7mgte and manual in white would be my absolute buckets list car for sure. I had one in the UK but was forced to sell it when I was stationed overseas
No option to remove starter motor from underneath? Ive done loads if these timing belts in Focus and Fiesta but none of them have been turbo, ive always managed to get starter out from underneath to lock the flywheel. Good video btw. 😊
Maybe but it's super super tight. It's just easier to remove the intake
Bro that would kill me to wire wheel that in shorts😂 good job tho 👍
Haha I did the full underside in shorts and t shirt 😂 thanks bro
Shorts and flip-flops in winter, your proper hardcore Simon. Keep the videos coming
Haha cheers bro
That's a beast mate

Im not even 40 and I can remember when gas was .58 cents to the gallon
Wow that's mega cheap man
@@Simonstockton82 my dad drove a 1987 Cadillac and if i remember right it had a 22 or 18 gallon tank on it. Was like $12-15 to fill up. Even when I first started driving, gas wasn't even quite a dollar. Like 79 to 89 cents
Oh man thise were the days!!!
