She reminds me of the folks out here in Japan. It's the best. Especially with the "I was gonna make some tea but forgot this lil thing", the upbeat music, the whole shebang. I can't get enough. :)

Just a superlight then with no mudguards, a different saddle and tyress. So get a superlight, remove the mudguards and put slick tyres on in the summer. Put the mudguards back on along with normal tyres in the winter, and you save a load of cash?

I have bought special nice colour (to fit my bikes own)" lightweight" round hinge clamps, with a special spring-set behind, to keep the clamp parallel and free from turning. Also with a lock nut in the end, to make them stay in the frame, when loosened.

@@brilliantbikes Yes indeed! I did find a "skeleton" titanium lock for my black, titanium back frame and latest a black titanium seat post with a ring for the saddle, and wasting the heavy original Brompton clamp! I am looking for a titanium stem post in black also - from the East, but I need to save a little more for that, now most things have become much more expensive, lately, during the war in Ukraine!

I don't get why Brompton still stick to hinge clamps that don't have the asymmetric clamps with a lock which keeps them from spinning around when opened, as offered by many as a 3rd-party upgrade.

  • @alex77ldn

I'm so glad you called it "chapter". I had no idea what CHPT was all about. Do bikes have chapters? Do chapters 1 and 2 exist? Books and things like that where you expect them usually just say "Ch" don't they? Glad it's not just me being thick.

    • @brilliantbikes

Thanks for watching - and the great question
We used to just refer ti it as C H P T 3 - letter by letter
It was inspired by the ex-professional rider David Millar - referring to the 3rd chapter in his life
Maybe you can work it out here (to be honest we struggled a bit!) : chpt3.com/pages/david-millar

Nice bike! I was on the waiting list for the CHPT3 with Brompton but their website crashed and now they've all gone :(
It's a shame that Brompton are only focusing on special limited editions these days and not making the standard models available. I would have liked to have bought one, but will be buying a Tern Verge X11 now as it seems there's still a 6 month wait for a Brompton.

I would personally opt for the two speed as a Londoner and make the bike at least 700g lighter.
She's so careful with both the bike and bag, because it's so obviously spoken for and the aftermarket value is now northwards of 4K GBP.
    Decal, I prefer der-CAUL as opposed to der-COW. #pedantic

I've been riding this bike for about a month th-cam.com/users/postUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.

I have an older version C-3 which is my (almost) daily workhorse. Its got mudguards and a carrier block too.
I personally don't believe in maintaining resale values by not using the bike (!). I gain more joy from riding the bike than having that extra bit of savings in the bank.

Chong Tan - perfect😃 bikes are for using - my M6L is both cherished and used a lot - the idea of preserving for some other person’s benefit has never appealed to me - I buy to use and get my money’s worth👍. Always well-cared for though.

The people at Brommiemods do customised aluminium mudguards in matched Brompton colours. I have Flame Red ones fitted to my (2019) CHPT3. Can't say that I notice any difference in weight, but of course, being red they make the bike go much faster ;-)

Yes. The integrated brake/gear levers were a REAL upgrade, when they arrived. Not only do they look smart and operate smoothly, they are not vulnerable to damage when the bike is upturned for maintenance. Now, the bike rests on the "soft bits"... saddle and bar grips.

I bought a $1,700 dollar Brompton two months ago from a Brompton retailer in NYC and was told I couldn't have the box because ” it was Brompton's policy" not to provide boxes because of rampant counterfeiting issues. Sooooo... I'm not always the brightest bulb in the bunch, but to me... It would seem a hell of a lot easier to create counterfeit boxes than it would be to create counterfeit Brompton bikes. Full disclosure.... They said they aren't provided with boxes either... Having said that... I'm still mad that I didn't get my box. I'm just saying.

Nothing special. The aluminium seatpost clamp and hinges are nothing compare to aluminium or titanium parts made by taiwan 🇹🇼 like ti parts , H&H, Ridea, Nov design.
Brompton should at least ditch that 6 speed setup and move on to 3 & 4 speed external cog. More lighter and less work shifting gears. Brompton could design better with that CHPT3 printed on red. Why not have special emblem CHPT3 welded on the frame. I guess , i better wait for nickel titanium again if they ever built one.

    • @samuelbreton9061
      @samuelbreton9061 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The 6 speed setup with a 50t chainring give me gears rollout between 33" to 100". To get the same kind of top speed on a standard hub, I would need a 72t chainring with the 12t cog. For the lowest gear (16t) to be climbing as well as the internal geared hub, the chainring would need to be a tiny 33t. This is the main reason why internal hubs are needed on tiny wheels. Unless you redesign the whole rear end... Then you could go 72t chainring, and a 12-24-36 cassette... But I doubt the chain tensioner would be able to catch that much chain slack..

Bromptons are all about slick, practical cycling. Excelling at city riding especially when combined with other transport use and of course, commuting. No mudguards! No lights! Expensive and stupid.

Funny you refer to the bike as a 'him'. I'm from Mexico and in Spanish, the word 'bicycle' is a feminine noun. So it would be a 'she': LA bicicleta

A brompton cycle with no mud guards is a big no no, my wet crouch and wet streak down the Centre of my back can testify to this. This cycle is not very practical when as we know the weather can suddenly change.
