    I have 7 of them on my community tank with angels, tetras, mollies, SAE's, pleco and cories. They are very hardy, never lost anyone (Unfortunately one got sucked to my gravel vacuum and I had to cut the hose open to save him, and he is still doing great. He was out of water for several minutes!). Great personality, active, fast swimming. Definitely not aggressive, only occasional tiny nips to set boundaries, as all fish do.

      I think mine started eating my platies after several months of being ok together. He also chases my bristlenose pleco occasionally. I guess platies are a little too small. Thankfully I had another tank to move the remaining platies to.

MBUNAS, Tropheous, Peacock and one hap Venusus. I am so happy. Definitely will be adding more EBAs. PS, I have two FX6s for Bio, one Fluval 407 for water polishing (including carbon) for the 50+ fish (the Electric Yellow Labs won't stop breeding...lol. Tank established 5 yrs now. I also use Pathos plants to combat excess nutrients among others growing out of the tank on drift wood. You and your wife do a great job with the Videos!!!

    I recently bought 4 young Electric Blue's for my lightly stocked 75 Gallon. They are fantastic fish, and are already willing to grab food directly from my hand. In addition to the great blue coloration, the orange trim at the top of their dorsal fin really adds to the appearance. I have a few rock caves set up, but like Jason's fish, they don't seem to spend much time dwelling there. They seem to prefer being active throughout the day. Thanks Jason for your review - You were my main resource before making the purchase.

    I have binged your videos for well over a week. I've fallen asleep listening to you almost every one of those nights. I got a 75 gallon and I'd like a few "centerpiece" fish but a natural looking tank with bright beautiful fish. I like the idea that the males and females both are colorful (just males are SO expensive). I have no clue what to stock it with. I do have a common pleco that they will be with. Shes so sweet and has never caused me any problems, she just needs her own hiding spot. I'm running out of room so I dont want to get any fish I will have to get another tank for. Of course the cichlids caught my attention lol

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't have any plants you have lots of cool choices. Check out the stocking options videos we have done and the Great beginner cichlids, along with the cichlids for planted tanks (even if you don't have plants they are usually great starter cichlids too). We also did another one - cichlids for small tanks. Enjoy the journey! Thanks for watching. :-)

  • @oscarthewhale

    These are my favorite 'electric blue cichlid'. They're easier to take care for than an electric blue ram, definitely waaay peaceful than electric blue jack dempseys and they have are definitely 'community' friendly because they don't require complicated water parameters like Electric Blue rams or even those electric blue peacock cichlids (Unless you have super hard tap water). I keep one in my Angelfish-Severum and a couple of black skirt tetras tank :)
    I'd keep more, but where I live, Electric Blue Acaras are more expensive than Discus and Rams and with the pandemic, these fish are as hard to find as rarer cichlids like Keyholes, Apistos, Festivums, etc.

  • @scotp6362
    @scotp6362 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I love this fish! It is one of my favorites! It is definitely my wife’s favorite. I have a male and female in a 75 gallon tank with a platinum angel, 4 Denison barbs, a pair of Bosemani rainbows(which look awesome together since both are blue and orange), a yo-yo loach, a pleco, otocinclus catfish, and two flying fox and one big amano shrimp. I was worried that they might eat the Otocinclus, but they have been together for over a year. I have not been able to keep fry past 5 days, even with moving them to a hang on fry container. In the tank they get picked off. One thing that they do use is a glass salsa jar. They pick up the fry and place them in the salsa jar. Mom and Dad take turns guarding the opening of the jar. As far as plants, you are correct in recommending anubias attached to rocks. Any plant must be WELL rooted. I have tried starting many stem plants or smaller plants without long roots and they are always floating within an hour. I have a fake plant where they like to try to breed, however they have recently tried other locations. I have have had success with aponogetan ulvaceus and with well rooted cryptocoryne. Hopefully I will get them to breed again and keep the fry. I may move the fry to another tank as soon as they are free swimming. I think the hang on box did not stay warm enough even though it was fed with tank water. Anyway, I agree it is a great fish that I will probably always keep!

Once hatched should I keep fry with the parents, remove the fry to a separate tank, or try to keep half with the parents and remove half? Awesome channel btw! I have a pair in my 55 gallon with a school of white skirts, an albino parrot and some plecos and it's a very beautiful tank. I am thinking about adding some more but I would like to ensure they're females as the two I have are males and both full grown at just under 6 inches, I feel if I throw any more boys in there tehy're going to get beat up.

    Thanks for the amazing vids as always. Need a bit of guidance please.. I have a 50 gallon with a diverse community of Rams, angelfish, 2 EBAs, a few cherry barbs, a Chinese and Siamese algae eater...
    My two EBAs have just mated, unplanned by myself :( the eggs have been laid on driftwood and I can already see the aggression towards the other fish.
    Should I be more concerned about my EBA hurting the smaller fish, or any of the above mentioned fish eating the eggs/fry?
    It's too late to move them to another tank right? Should I try to build a cave of some sort around the eggs? Appreciate any advice please

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could scrape the eggs off the wood and tumble them but sometimes that causes the parents to fight and they will probably lay more. All the fish in the tank will eventually eat the fry unless either the other fish are removed or the fry. Always fun dealing with this the first time. 😀

    I got into the hobby this past Summer and your videos have taught me so much, so thank you!
    I do have a question I was hoping you could answer. I was recently gifted a 55 gal and was hoping to keep a community tank with the EBA as my centerpiece fish. The current stock I was thinking of was Colombian tetras (or a similarly large tetra), a school of corydoras, and possibly some hatchet fish. Nothing is set in stone, but would you recommend sticking with 1 EBA or could I get 2?

    Hi sir ,so I have 4 electric blue acara and they are about a year old. Bought them online form aqua hanna in December of 2020, I wasn't sure if I had a pair. But I most definitely do, they spawn on a rock in some dense plant didn't see them spawn . But if you look closely you can see the egg.
    The smaller one is faning while the male isn't letting the other 2 acara next to the spawn site. Also I have a few pairs of high fin Molly's, cory cat and 2 pair of rainbow fish. They are in a 55 gallon tank, ph 7.4 temp 79 f. I Would like to keep you updated

    I have an electric blue acara with a lot of African cichlids like venustus, polystigma, nyererei, Astatatilapia obliquidens, Neolamprologus brichardi and a very large Frontosa. They seem to all get along well but I want to know if I get more electric blue acaras if you think they will chase each other around. I have had other South American cichlids relentlessly chase and bully their conspecifics so I am hoping the electric blue acara won’t be like that. What do you think?

    My first 45 gallon tank is cycling now, and I want the electric blue acara’s to be the centerpiece!
    These are my stocking ideas and need advice on if this would work! 2 Electric Blue Acara’s, 6 Dwarf Bolivian Rams (or substitute 6 dwarf neon rainbows), 10 Black harlequin rasboras, 8 lemon tetras, and 8 Cory cats. Is that a little too ambitious or overstocked? This is my first tank ever, and I’m a late 30’s guy who had a lot of time in quarantine. Haha. Your channel is one of my favorites for sure. Thanks for the advice man if you can! But no doubt I want these electric blues to be the star’s.
