Electric blue acara is very beautiful fish with character. They are responsible parents. It’s fun to watch the mother walks the babies around and pecks the straying away babies one by one back into their home cave. Thumbs up to your new addition. 😊

The male is guarding the eggs and the two females are out and about! In cichlids you can tell male from female by the dorsal fin. The males dorsal is longer and has an extended tip, where the females dorsal fin is a bit shorter and more rounded at the end.

I have a single blue acara but she has had the worst luck as a fish! My friend gave her to me and se jumped out of the bucket before I got her in my tank and was out for a good minute. Then she got stuck in a fake hollow rock and I had to damage her dorsal and some scales on her face to get her out. Then she was getting beat up in the tank and I moved her to a tank to heal. She jumped out of that tank and scratched her eyes on the carpet causing a temporary blindness. Again she healed. Now she is in with my rainbow fish and angel and they all get along great. I have hundreds of fish but she is my favorite and will only eat if it's from my hand.

Another excellent video and let the parents raise them is the best. If you pull the wigglers is a lot of work. For the plucostamus, you can use a small terracotta pot, lay it side ways. That is what I use and they have spond.

  • @NihilusTheGreat

I'd leave the acara fry in the tank. Acara are great parents! It may take them a few attempts to get it right, but they will raise their young. Just make sure they get the food.
Both the male and female will protect their young, might take a couple times, but they'll get it eventually.
You may want to remove the one that isn't part of the pair.

My blue acara have been very good parents. They are generally great parents and share the job. Warning they will spawn again in less than 3 weeks if you remove the fry . If you don’t remove the juveniles they will eat the next lot of fry. As the adults mature a pair will have 400 fry seriously it will look like 500 fry but who can count? Baby brine shrimp would be nice but dry dust will also work. You will get your hands attacked a few times LOL They will be fine doing it naturally. The next generation in 3 weeks will be eaten by the juveniles ( hopefully)
You need to separate the BN plecos or you will have hundreds of them ,as well LOL.
All fish jump. Even long fin BN jump.

I generally remove the fry after a week because mine are in a community setting, but I now have 10-12 adults and juvies in a 75, most that I’ve raised. They’re just amazing fish. Hello MD! Yes, it's the larger female. If you notice the other 2, one of them has the dorsal and anal fin going over the tail fin. Start organizing somewhere to start hatching Brin shrimp. Also, instead of moving the fry, move the other pair.

    Hello MD
It has been inspiring for me to see you having lots of success with your aquarium setups.
One question, my aquarium plants mostly not doing well specially red rooted surface plants and melt away but yours are green and healthy?.
Please advise. I use liquid feed as well as liquid CO2 now and again. PH normal and temp is set to 24° constant.
    ManyThanks

Excellent mate! Really happy for you. I'm with you btw, I much prefer to leave babies in the tank and see what happens rather than removing them. Especially when it's a species only tank.

I just had this happen with my little Golden Ramirezi's. 24-48 hours into the tank, they'd scoped out a nice area and laid a nice clutch of eggs... 30 hours later, not many eggs left. I was, unfortunately, unable to remove the large piece of wood they'd used to lay on, so hopefully, they'll choose one of the nice flat stones I've scattered around in protected places and try again!

Hi MD! Your videos are amazing and your aquascaping style is unbelievable! I've a questione for you: Do you buy all the woods and stones used in the tanks?
    Many thanks

You do you MD! We’re along for the ride. You’ve got the cichlids bug… watch out. You’ll need more big tanks! Turkana Jewel cichlids are an easy breed and striking as well. No where as mean as the normal Jewels. Keep up the great content

How large are the smaller tanks? The ones you keep in a row, not the big show aquariums.

Both the Male and Female will take turns protecting the eggs/fry. And the great thing about SA cichlids is that they raise the fry together until the babies are viable to survive alone. Actually, the fry will eat more of each other than other fish will. Only take them out of you need to seperate specific strands. Like EBJD for example, the electric blue fry will all be killed off if not seperated

You do the bare bottom but all the algae grow they feed on that of the glass that’s what you need to do a really heavy bear algae and caves tank for them maybe not even have the light on all the time because I noticed a lot of those tanks are dark most of the time
