  • The Fish Files are back with one of the most asked for fish: the Electric Blue Acara!
    This episode is on the awesome Electric Blue Acara, the first Cichlid I have covered with many more to come.
    I'm slowly learning new camera tricks and tips but I find something new everyday. Drop in the comments which fish you would like me to feature next in this series.
    More to come in the future with product reviews, fish info and general aquarium goodness.
    Let me know in the comments if there is anything in particular you would like me to cover.

    Love the content Matt. For future, I'd love to see a video on Rams. Lots of people have poor luck as they're so sensitive to water parameters. I'd love to keep some but I'm fearful they won't live long.

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you, yep you are spot on with the rams being a bit sensitive. But concentrate on feeding and water changes and you should be absolutely fine.

      @@FishShopMattrams are not sensitive , they just need to be kept pretty hot , and maybe acclimate a little slower , and more 25 percent changes , they are not long lived so most people are buying rams that are more than 3 quarters in there life cycle

    As usual, all killer, no filler. As I’ve said before, I love the fact that you don’t dumb things down.
    In terms of suggestions for future videos, I’ve kept most aquarium fish, but I’ve never had freshwater rays and would love to hear what you have to say about them.

    probably my favourite cichlids along with geophagus steindachneri and the jack dempsey. the one i have is about 4 or 5 inches in a tank of around 73 gallons and super cool. loves swimming around and being a real character. mine even eats flakes from my hand and isnt afraid of the gravel vac. what i find funny is that their head color changes depending on their mood. they are super versatile too. keep mine with a rather docile jack dempsey, a gourami, bristlenose and clown plecos, hoplos, asian bagrids, synodontis, raphael catfish and at one point an ellioti that passed away shortly after i got it from an unknown pre existing condition. they are rather peaceful and mine got bullied by most semi agressive central and south american cichlids including geophagus steindachneri, a cutteri and an african jewel cichlid but he gets mad and dislikes it when my hoplo tries to steal his food. mine loves bug bites, flakes and frozen bloodworms. btw a profile on any of the fish mentioned would be neat

    Great Job Matt. I learned a lot. I am limited as to how large of an Aquarium I can have in this small apartment for disabled since I am still trying to get up on my feet and walk more without the walker and cane. Once up on my feet, I can do okay with and without the cane.
    With that said. I am am limited to a 55G 21"Tall. I created this 55G as a room-divider between the living room and the kitchen-dining area so that I can see it as I walk about throughout the day.
    Once I get this 55G stable, it will free up my 2 10G and 2 5G Quarantine Tanks and will make room for a 20G 21"Tall Long to move my Betta and his Clean-up Crew into to give them more swimming space. It will be heavily planted as his existing tank is and it will have more hiding places, tunnels, and areas for exploring.
    Where this is going is that I have been wanting to get a Breeding Pair or a male and 2 females to join this Community Aquarium... with them being the largest. The smallest Fish would be the shoal of Emporium Tetras. I also have 5 young Chocolate Kuhli Loaches, 2 Bronze Cory Cats (looking for a few more), 5 Brown Bristlenose Plecos, in separate Quarantine Tanks that will also go into this 55G once it is stable.
    I have had the HOB, Sponge Filter, Rocks, extra Gravel, Driftwood, Plants, and bags of BioMedia Rings soaking in the Quarantine Tanks to build the Biological Filter & Biofilm on them to help for a quick start. At least that is my plan. I also have 3 different types of Clay products, along with the Fluval Red Flourite soaking in Water-Change water, plus Plant Fertilizer to charge these Clay medias.
    I am thinking on creating a "dirtied substrate" bottom layer, screen, then the Eco Complete/Planted layer, then a screen under the sand cap. This should protect the bottom layer from the Cory and Khuli digging and be kinder to their soft skin and bristles.
    I have some nice flat rocks that have the Biofilm on them already... that I started back in December 2022. I plan to also create a cave in the one end that could have each potential way to lay their eggs: cave, vertical rock, and a horizontally placed flat rock... and have plants around to help to make them to feel safe.
    Again, thanks for your great review.

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tom if this is your son's first trip into Fishkeeping I wouldn't personally recommend marines. I would start off with a nice planted aquarium and get the water testing on point. With saltwater you are looking after the water rather than the animals inside, so having a good base knowledge in water chemistry is essential. Once you perfect a specialist part of the freshwater hobby then you should be ready to look at saltwater.

    Yaay, New video :D
    Maybe try a shrimp care video?
    Shrimp file?
    I wanna ask u if its ok that i added duckweed in my tank. By The way i made a circle that keeps them trapped.
    Thanks mate

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you ❤️
      Shrimps are on the list, as for duckweed it's absolutely fine to add it. It uses up nutrients and provides shade for the fish. The only issue with it is when it gets out of control.

    • @wickedmikes5281
      @wickedmikes5281 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with Matt 100%. No surprise there. Duckweed will reproduce FAST. This makes it a quick, inexpensive way to mop up nitrogen. As Matt also pointed out, it also provides cover. With shrimp in particular, the more cover they have, the bolder they become and the more they’ll venture out where you can see them.
      If the duckweed gets out of control, do what I do. Scoop a few handfuls of it out when you’re doing your water changes and use the duckweed and aquarium water in your garden.
      Best tomatoes you’ll ever have, man.
